Grocery story quality, actually less than that. Nobu prices… this isn’t Malibu. Most places in for example Anchorage have complimentary miso soup & salad if you order sushi. Not even Mastros or Sushi Roku charge that much for even edemami unless of course it is garlic glazed(which in this case… it was not).

I am definitely a fan of sushi here. I went with volcano roll the last two times I have been here and I have been pleased with the quick serves and fresh tasting food.

My best friend and I stopped in for lunch a few weeks ago and we were pleasantly surprised. The interior was clean, the service was friendly, and the food was good. I had a salad and a sashimi combo that came with miso soup; she had miso soup and a roll. My salad was fresh and the sashimi was clean-tasting and delicious. My only critiques are that the food was a bit expensive and the delivery timing was awkward(we got everything on the table at once)… I would have preferred smaller(and less pricey) portions for lunchtime, although they would have been just right for dinner.

Hands down best sushi I’ve ever had. They use black rice which is a bit sweet tasting and very rare for a sushi restaurant. They always love to give appetizers on the house. It was very quiet when we went in and our service was excellent. We had a little trouble finding the place because it was called Khan’s and Zushi but if you get lost its right next to the gas station in the plaza.

I had never had bad sushi until I came here. And I’ve eaten a lot of sushi from a lot of places. Even sushi I’ve made myself or eaten from the hospital cafeteria was way better than from here. I tried 3 different rolls and the rice in each one was totally mushy. Disgusting. Inedible. How can you screw up rice, the main ingredient in sushi, so badly? Especially when charging $ 17 per roll. Needless to say I will never return. It’s not that I had high expectations for sushi in Wasilla, but I know another establishment in town can get it right and should have returned there instead of trying something new based on Unilocal reviews.

I miss the old Zushi, before it became Khan’s Sushi. Now the rolls are huge, which normally you would think would be a good think, but they try to stuff so much into them it becomes a fight for life to get one piece into your mouth – at least the rolls my wife and I order. That, and since there is so much stuff in one bite, the flavors become muddled and it becomes one huge gluey rice ball concoction in your mouth. Previously under original ownership, the owner – who was a pretty intolerant manager of her staff, but otherwise really nice to her customers, would make sure we felt at home – not so anymore. Now it’s like every other place – I miss that. Also they made their Steak and Fries roll differently; It was heaven on a plate. It consisted of little more than three strips of ribeye steak rolled in rice, wrapped in shredded potatoes, deep fried and cut into manageable pieces to eat. Dip that into some eel sauce and man, I was smiling ear to ear. Now it’s stuffed with cream cheese, tempura shrimp, cucumber and one strip of steak. The shredded potatoes are no longer wrapped around the roll, but comes on the side. It is the size of a baseball bat in width – the thick end, and is a mess to eat. SODISSAPPOINTED.

We are from out of town and a local recommended this place. This restaurant is phenomenal. From the moment we walked in and thought out dinner, the service was exceptional. We were pleasantly surprised before the sushi came out by complimentary salad and miso soup. They had some more unique rolls that sounded good but we really wanted salmon. We started with salmon and octopus sashimi. Our waitress recommended the Khan’s Roll and Salmon salad roll. Both were amazing. The presentation was beautiful; The rice is purple, which the sushi chef explained is made with a mix of white, brown and black rice, and they had multi colored roe on top. And they were delicious. While we were eating, the sushi chef came to check on us. I highly recommend this place!

Having heard many good things about this establishment I walked inside with high expectations, I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was fun yet still professional. The staff are very polite and knowledgeable with the menu. After I had ordered I was brought a very tasty and uniquely presented salad with a cup of the best miso soup in the valley. This establishment defiantly brings their own flair and creativity to the traditional Japanese cuisine. The wait time was not too long in my opinion. Nobody seems to be in a rush, the chef takes his time and it really shows. My sushi was delicious and the ingredients were fresh. Very beautiful plating. The chef makes you feel like your meal was special. All in all, the menu offers a wide array to suit everyone’s fancy, the service is friendly and inviting, and the food is fresh and of the highest quality. It definitely is impressive to see a business put so much character and pizazz into what typically is cookie cutter tradition with Japanese cuisine. Will definitely become a regular.

I love this place specially the selections of different kind of sushi. This is my second time here, very friendly! They should have Groupon to get more people in!

Every time I go into Zushi I know I will have the best sushi around. The food is always top notch, great music playing at the right level of volume just all in all a great atmosphere for a date, family outing or just grabbing dinner with friends. I’ve been to several sushi places here in the state and they are the only one to use black rice which makes the experience that more Incredible! I suggest this place to everyone including you! Also if you look around the social networks they have specials for this place at great prices.

Awesome sushi, great atmosphere, priced right for the quality/location and gotta love the personal touch with service. Especially enjoyed the uniqueness and flare the owners put into the whole presentation. I have sampled sushi establishments throughout the west coast, big cities and small towns, coastal and near major airports for fresh supplies… I must say Zushi steps with the best when it comes to quality sushi, service and atmosphere. Definitely on my list to return for more.

I originally read about this place here on Unilocal. It has some great reviews so I figured I’d check it out. BUT… I walked in and barely sat down when I realized that their sushi rolls that are sold at other places for $ 6-$ 12 were $ 17 and up here. I guess because they use«black rice». I’m no cheap-o but no matter how good the food is I’ll never pay three times more when I can go many other places in town for less than half the price. Unless it’s rice made of gold I just can’t justify it: P

My husband and I attempted to eat here. By that I mean we pulled in, and found a note stating that they were closed for a trip to Anchorage. It’s right next to their hours that stated they should’ve been open.

Though my experience was really 3-star, I am giving it 4 stars because there is a serious mountain of potential hiding in this restaurant. It could be 5 star easily. The Good: Clean, meticulous and creatively inspired artistic sushi. Without a doubt, the chef has the best technical and presentation skills in the Palmer area. The décor is nice, a little zany for the sake of zany but the style is clean. The fish was at the highest level of freshness, and beautifully cut. The use of black/purple rice is enjoyable for sure. Unbleached whole-grain rice has a much more complicated earthy flavor that contrasts well with the fresh ocean flavor of fish. The not as good: While obviously extremely skilled, the chef was very quiet and at times hesitant to interact with me. I am the only person in here, sitting at the bar. You gotta talk to me some time. The«lunch» menu was very dumbed down, and while the practice of filling out sushi order sheets is a little non-traditional it does cut down on mis-communication by a large margin. I got about 60% of what I actually ordered. Everything I had was delicious, but I was often eating something that I did not recall ordering. Just difficulties understanding one another that could have been fixed with an order sheet, or a call-back from the chef. Things I would change: The real star of this place is the care and attention that goes into every dish the chef makes. Little touches like garnishes, teardrop shaped maki rolls with nice arcs of sauce around them. The tragedy though is that because they use a cold-plate horizontal storage bin instead of a more traditional see-through glass refrigerator, you can’t see any of the work the chef does. The whole reason I sit at the bar is to watch the food take shape. I live to watch blocks of fish get turned into artistic presentations of flavor. Sadly all I could see was the boring stainless steel lid of the cold-bar. Also the rice. I have only been to 2 other sushi bars that used non-traditional rice and both of them advertised it as a big selling point. This is going under advertised here. The flavor of whole grain rice is really different from traditional white rice and it changes the way that the sushi tastes in a marvelous way. I was delighted to see the purple whole grain rice in use, but had no idea it even existed.(Especially since my salmon nigiri morphed into a salmon sashimi) So to summarize, there is a highly skilled chef with fantastically fresh ingredients and a real talent for flavor combinations. You might not be able to see him work his magic, but you can enjoy his creations. Make sure you put your order through the manager so that it can be properly translated into what arrives on your plate. You will pay more than other sushi places around town, but the quality is unquestionable here.

I’m giving a «relativity» 5 stars, based on location. Sushi is limited in #matsu or «the Valley.» For Wasilla, this is by far as good as it gets. We’ve tried every other sushi place in the area, several times each. Tokyo is good, Sakura is bad, Pataya is in between the two. Zushi is good. The décor is nice, upscale, retro and cool. Clean and stylish. Service was very prompt, friendly, genuine. Everything came out as fast as you could expect. I asked about their flavor saki and got a three shot sampler. I liked none, because they were all too sweet, and so she brought me a regular hot saki. When the bill came, the three samples were not on there– just a free taste, a loss for them, but good customer service. My wife– not a raw foods person– had the crunch roll and loved it. I had the spicy tuna roll: a different shape, a bit small, but it was very good. Distinct flavors and fresh. The miso soup came with each roll and was good. Small touches, like the saki samples, fortune cookies dipped in chocolate, the intentionally careful and stylish presentation, really make a difference. Expensive? Sure. Relative to sushi places in the area and Anchorage? No difference, really. If you want good sushi in the Valley, this is really the only choice.

Expensive, yes. Good yes. Gives the Valley an additional ‘exquisite’ place to eat. Will definitely be back! Showered with tasty add-ons while I ate as well.

What a lovely little find in a random location. Living in Palmer, I don’t travel to Wasilla much, but some girlfriends and I decided to get some dinner and a movie. We tried Grapetap but were turned down because it was packed. So we decided to give the new sushi place a try. Now, I’ve had a lot of sushi in my life, coming from the coast where it’s fresh and amazing, I’d consider myself a connoisseur of sorts. Zushi was a great find. They did it right: Hot Saki was served over flame to keep it warm, we were served some chef complimentary items for starters and at the end. Always a kind gesture. The display was beautiful and clean, both the table setting, and the sushi/roll display. Very artful, the way sushi should be! The owner is Japanese so I’m glad she kept with tradition. The edamame was MUCH better than Sakura! All the rolls were beautiful, the tea was refilled often with hot water, the Saki warm, friendly staff(if not even over friendly). I recommend the Fries and Stake Roll if you like a fried roll… super delicous and surpising. I had the Kong Roll which was also amazing. Their homemade sauce for the Gyozo was the best I’ve ever tasted. The reason it only gets 4 stars is because of the price. A little on the high side, but I understand its sushi in Alaska… but in all honesty, I don’t mind paying for food that’s beautiful, fresh, and delicious… especially when it comes to sushi. Everyone should give it a try for a nice date night out… make sure you save up some funds if you are worried about price. But it’s worth it!

Update — went back to try them for lunch last week. The previous lunch menu I saw last time wasn’t the same. :(so we looked at the regular menu — and they’ve raised their prices by at least $ 2+ per roll! What I thought was fairly reasonable now seems expensive. All of the prices on the menu have little pieces of paper glued down with new prices. on them. We still had a nice but expensive lunch. $ 30 for lunch for 2 is not something I would do again. It wasn’t amazing enough to warrant the price. Service was good but it was still pretty empty in there.

This place is great! The sushi was fresh, lots of flavor, not too much rice, and it came in a timely manner. The service was also good. Easy 5 stars, but I am taking 1 star away because the owner was standing about 6 feet away from our table and was giving the staff a lecture on good customers service. Though it is important, I don’t want to hear someone chew-out her staff while I’m enjoying my dinner, swearing included. Also, the reggae music just doesn’t fit the mojo of the restaurant. All in all, a good meal.
