Went after church for a quick bite. With home made daily soup specials and a fridge that can store any left overs(incase you want to take grab soup on the go) you have to stop in if you’re a soup lover. I also ordered a ½ ham and cheese sandwich on a bun and decided to order the other ½ after devouring the 1st ½. Bread is exactly like Suburbia bread if you like that. Actually, minus the oil the sandwich was similar to a Gold Coast at Suburbia. I Loved it. Owners were very attentive as was the rest of the staff. You can tell they love what they’re doing…

Great little find. Daily soup and sandwich place… even have a full bar. I had the turkey and pepper jack sandwich with a cup of steak and black bean chili. Looks like they have a nice variety. I even had a beer. Met the owner who was very friendly. She mentioned they serve breakfasts too… My son loved what he had too! Can’t go wrong with a deli that has a bar… this place hit a strike!!! haha

Based off the 2 times I ate there the food has been great. First thing I ever tried(compliments of Pete and Sue) was the home made chocolate chip cookies which were soft and chewy… Just the way it should be. I had lunch there a few months back and cleaned my plate and the home-made soup I brought home today didn’t last long before it was gone. I need to try the pizza next.

Meat chili for the win! I was in the mood for a soup lunch and couldn’t stomach the thought of going to panera. After a quick Unilocal seach, I picked Bowl and Bun. I couldn’t have been happier. My husband had the hot sandwich special and loved it as well. Add to that friendly service and a fun atmosphere and we will be back over and over again.

Saw all the great reviews and had to see for myself. Was warmly welcomed From the owner. Had an amazing pulled pork sand which and meat chili. Ate it too fast to take a pic. Left me full but not hurting. Reasonable prices for down home comfort food. Grabbed a soup and salad to take home with me as well. I’ll be back soon to take pics and enjoy another great meal

I have eaten or taken out food now on six occasions at Tosa Bowl and Bun. It is consistently a great place in Tosa to have a soup and salad for lunch, OR, if you are an Italian sub/hero fan, a really great, authentic Italian Deli-style sandwich. Peter Venturi and his wife Sue are the owner/operators/chefs and all around architects of this unique space on North Ave. at 72nd Street.(See my pix). Every bowl of soup, every salad and every«to-go» container of food I have taken home has been«A-One» in quality and value. I am particularly fond of what I believe has become a signature salad at Tosa Bowl: The Apple Walnut Salad which also contains«Craisins,» blue cheese and poppy seed dressing. It’s really good.(Please see my picture). I am also hooked on Peter’s chili; a homemade, hearty and mildly seasoned blend of minced beef in a tangy, tomato based broth with a few kidney beans and a bit of onion.(See my pix). Though I’ve heard kudos and«yums» from others about one soup or another, my «to go» favorite soup(in a quart sized container) is the Italian Eggplant soup. This one is really special. I won’t muck it up by trying to describe the ingredients; enough to say if you are an Eggplant fan, you WILL love this soup. Peter makes all his soups by hand and sells containers to go($ 8.00), which he keeps in his refrigerator/freezer section on the east wall of the store/restaurant.(See my pix). «Deli» wise, Peter sells a variety of cheeses and Italian meats at very reasonable prices.(See my pix). So far, I have taken«to go» his homemade olive salad, chicken salad and a large chunk of blue cheese. I noticed he has soppressa and bresaola in the case, as well, that have been winking at me(but one day at a time, LOL). I have been very happy with everything I’ve taken home, as well as the fairness of the pricing. I look forward to when Tosa Bowl begins to stay open later for dinner. Peter is almost finished with a cocktail bar he built and has installed a giant HDTV behind it. I am, thus, anticipating future evenings of food and cocktails with friends at Tosa Bowl.

Had the most awesome roast beef sandwich there for lunch today! Delish! Hubby had the meatball sandwich which he loved too. More people got to try this place. They also have tons of soups, salads and entrees you can take home and heat up. Super clean and service was exceptional.

The Ruben soup is a culinary master piece to say the least. I have never seen such a soup so I was skeptical but it was spot on. The sauerkraut, corn beef and crème base was fooling my mind because you taste all the major ingredients of a Ruben. The crème base mimicked the thousand island dressing and it just works wonderful. When I asked Pete how the Ruben soup was he said it’s like eating a Ruben sandwich and I thought there is no freaking way that is possible but I bought it anyway and I’m glad. Now I’m really excited to dig in to the stuffed cabbage soup I took home. I just had the sandwich and soup for lunch today which was the chicken salad with grapes and the chili. I never ever order salads like chicken salad but after the comments on Unilocal I would do so today. The chicken salad was really good with big chunks of white meat chicken. To my surprise it was really tasty and I would order it again.

Great place used to eat here almost everyday for lunch when it was Venturi’s market! Pete and Sue are back and still putting out some of the best homemade fare you will ever taste! Homemade Cornbeef, Roastbeef, several pasta salads and the best Chickensalad in the city featuring Pete’s secret sauce! Great soups and chili’s, all sandwiches served on Sciortino’s rolls and subs!

This deli is my new Friday lunch stop. The chicken salad is amazing. They won’t say what’s in it(with a knowing smile) but it’s not just a mayo chicken salad. It has a creamy texture with the perfect amounts and sizes of celery, grapes and nice big chunks of chicken. It’s the best chicken salad I have had in some time. The Italian sausage in a Scortino bun is wonderful and not a mess, it’s a good sized sensible sandwich with flavorful tomato sauce and cheese and you don’t feel you have to shower or change your shirt afterward. The Scortino roll is perfect for this. The lemon chicken and chicken dumpling soups are very tasty and I would wager home made. They are flavorful without a ton of salt. Too often restaurants and delis use a lot of salt to flavor the home made soups. Not here, amazingly flavorful without too much salt. You might wonder where the Bowl comes in here but it’s a play on the great bowls of soup and the old time bowling machines that were in any decent neighborhood bar in the 60’s. Playing the free bowling pinball machines while you wait for your food brings back fond memories of spending dimes and drinking crème sodas while waiting for grandpa to finish his beer at a local tavern. This is a nice place with nice people that are proud of and care about the food they serve. I think you’ll like it.

Stopped in today for a sandwich and some soup. Had a turkey sub which was prepared fresh and quickly. It tasted delicious made on an italian bread sub roll with the right amoutn of crunch/chewiness. I also had the meat chili which had a hint of italian sausage/seasoning taste. Pleasant and hearty. If you are in the mood for a quick deli style lunch this is a great place to get it. Prices are reasonable and service was expedient. Looking forward to sunday hot ham/rolls. Hopefully they bring back the focaccia pizza they used to have when it was venturi’s market. While nothing extravagent; this is a nice simple deli in the heart of east tosa. While I enjoyed my meal I feel to really suceed they will need to broaden their menu offerings. Seeing as they just re-opened this may be in the works. Update: I got one of their frozen in house made pizzas and was pleasantly suprised. I would put the pizza on par with balistreri’s. The crust is flaky and crunchy. Good ratio of cheese/sauce. At 8 $ for a pizza it is a very good bargain and far superior to a frozen pizza offering you would get at the grocery store. I baked mine in the oven at 425 for almost 30 minutes on the top rack. results may vary!
