Bonsai Sushi

Finally ordered the Rangoon (took me three yrs bc I hate cream cheese)…amazing! Omg yum!!!

I went to Bonsai Sushi on a Friday night and had to park what would be about a block away because the parking near the restaurant was full. The restaurant was packed and there was about a 30 minute wait for a table but I was able to get seated in 5 minutes at the Sushi Bar. The staff was very friendly but the service was intermittent. I had the calamari tempura which was excellent, the tempura was light, crispy and seasoned well. My sushi was O.K., the taste was fine but some of the ingredients were sticking out of the ends of the sushi, some of the piece of the sushi roll were stuck to each other and when I tried to eat them, I had to pull them apart causing them to rip apart. I feel that Bonsai Sushi is over priced.

They could have a bit more variety for their sushi choices, but quite tasty nonetheless. Absolutely love the seared ahi tuna and fried crab ragoons! Great try for my first visit!

I’ve been coming here for years. I highly recommend the Crab Rangoon (it’s sweet and spicey and not like the traditional crab Rangoon as its wrapped in grape leaves). The Volcano roll, Super Crunch roll, and Waikiki roll are popular too, the sushi chefs always present the rolls beautifully. Only thing to be cautious of is they can have random extra pricing for ex. they charge for extra sauces if you order to go food and charge for refills on fountain drinks when your dining in. Otherwise I would certainly recommend it.

Yes, I would have to agree with most of the reviews here. The sushi here has never failed me every time I have come here. One of the things that I look for in a sushi place is that the tuna or salmon (my preference) is always, simply, cold when I put it in my mouth. The fish is always the right temperature here. Cold and fresh… quite the opposite, the service here is warm and friendly.

This is a good Japanese restaurant to eat at if you’re looking for a Japanese place to eat in the Wesley Chapel area. There is limited seating which can be either good or bad depending on the time of day as well as what day of the week you want to eat here. Regardless of the space it is still a good place to sit and eat Japanese food. Some of our favorite sushi rolls from the menu include: Sexy Man, Cristine’s Roll and the Shrimp tempura roll.

Get the Doctor roll Bonsai specially roll. Its awesome. Taste amazing bursting with flavor.

Great presentation very helpful staff and very inexpensive for tue amount of food that you get. I will be back!

The best sushi I’ve had in the bay area accompanied with fast service. We had two rolls off the special menu the centipede and the Matt as well as the super crunch and the big roni, all were equally as amazing.

Busy most of the time.

We stopped here on our way out of Tampa for lunch. It was delicious. I highly recommend the crab rangoon. They are not your typical rangoon. I’m not sure how they’re made, but they are delicious. It looks like they stuff a soft shelled crab. I also got the spicy tuna tataki. It was a really generous portion and more like a salad. It was really good quality tuna. We ordered a few sushi rolls.
The service was also great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. If ever back in the Tampa area, I’d definitely go back.

The best sushi in Tampa. The service is always amazing. The sushi is incredible and fresh. Whenever someone comes into town, I take them to Bonsai, even though I live across town.

It was our first time eating here and we will definitely be back. We had 4 sushi rolls, crab rangoon appetizer and a kids meal and the bill was $ 43. Not bad at all. Hostess and waitress were very attentive and friendly.

This Sushi location came highly recommended by Tampa locals and a few friends. My first impressions was of some small venue trying their hand at Sushi. The venue was clean and there was plenty of staff. I ordered the Bonsai Roll and a few pieces of Sashimi to start. The Sexy Man was on deck and is Highly recommended! I haven’t had Sushi in a few weeks and was really looking for a place in the Tampa area to turn too when visiting. Well, Bonsai you are the Winner! I had a amazing experience with the staff and the Sushi, Sashimi and Sake was all Top Shelf! Without Question The Sexy Man roll is the Best! I missed out on the Best Sushi «Ninja» who was off this day. I hear she is the Best at her craft and I really wanted to see for myself. The venue needs more space to grow and adding a few more signature rolls would give you 5 Stars from me. I will return and this was a great recommendation from others.

Sushi is good and the staff is so so so friendly. They are really good at modifying rolls for us or making things we ask them to on the fly. Their crab rangoon is different… and it’s BOSS… soooooo good.
Warning — the «spicy mayo» is not spicy at all, and the «spicy sauce» is more like a spicy mayo but still a little less spicy than I’m used too. If you like spicy mayo don’t be afraid to ask them to turn up the heat on the rolls.
Dean at the sushi bar is AWESOME!

I live in Wesley Chapel and this is by far the best sushi place in the area if you’re not in New Tampa, where a lot of other sushi restaurants are.
I’ve eaten here many times before and their dinner entrees such as misoyaki, bulgogi, ramen, tempura, and more have been very satisfying. Their portions are appropriate for the price and quality so if you’re one who likes big portions for cheap, don’t expect that here.
Their sushi menu possesses many options, cooked and raw, as well as specialty rolls that are creative and yummy.
Most recently I had the salmon sushi, kamikaze roll, crispy roll (special roll), and the tamago (egg) sushi. All were delish and I highly recommend them!
The service is also always excellent for 2 – 3 servers handling the whole restaurant so props to them. The décor and ambiance also makes this establishment a classy, romantic, and casual place to dine in.
