We had a variety of sushi which was all good with a special nod to the salmon skin roll, that was bomb. The rest was OK in portion and quality. The Sashimi was a real disappointment. The yellow tail was sub-par. mmeh, mediocre service and high price to quality drag Sharaku down a star.

I have been here at least 30 times with customers, friends and family. Always during lunch. Everyone loved it! I am soooo happy that my friend recommended Sharaku to me. The place has the best and I mean the best Sushi period! I usually order the lunch special and it has never disappointed. Never! Great food, very nice service. Fast and courteous. Highly recommend Sharaku.

It’s hard to find a place that can come to holding a candle against my all-time favorite Japanese restaurant in Novi for udon, but alas, I have found a place. I love ramen even more than I love udon, and Sharaku has excellent ramen. The one I have fallen in love with is the Karamiso Ramen. Although it’s a miso soup base, it’s not overly salty. It has some chili oil in it so it adds just a little kick. The toppings are ground beef and a variety of vegetables. I like that there’s a good balance between the ramen/soup/toppings ratio. It comes with a small plate of fried rice which has pieces of hot dog as the«protein.» The hot dog as the protein thing doesn’t bother me, but honestly, it was kind of bland and I would’ve been fine without it since the portion for the kiramiso ramen is so huge. I also went another time and tried their lunch special, which happened to be a chirashi bowl with a small bowl of udon. Whenever the lunch special is a chirashi, I have to get it, because you’re getting something that’s normally around $ 20 for about half the price, and that’s before the udon. Their fish was fresh, and the broth for the udon was wonderful as well. The place isn’t big, but the food is definitely authentic as most of the customers were not speaking English. That’s always a good sign. The servers were friendly as well. I’m definitely going back. In fact, I just may go back today. :-)

I went for dinner and liked it as authentic Japanese restaurant and yes, it is a bit expensive but quality was great. I was surprised menu variety(number and variety of seasonal ingredients) for Sushi-main place(that I assume because of the Sushi counter). Only cons were some of the Sake were out of stock as well as no Shochu listed(probably because of liquor license as Shochu classified as hard liquor). I will definitely visit there again whenever I travel to Detroit area.

As authentic as it gets, folks! My Japanese coworker had recommended this restaurant to me when I first moved to Michigan and wow, was I blown away! I have been to Japan before and have lived all over the country, and NEVER have I been to a restaurant that reminded me so much of Japan. This place is expensive though, just because they fly in all their seafood fresh from the west coast. The 2nd time I came here, I noticed that everyone except for my dad who is white(I am half asian), was Japanese and speaking Japanese. In addition, the sushi and sashimi are made with the greatest care and craftsmanship, you can really taste the difference. I recommend coming here for lunch, as their lunch specials are more unique and the prices are much more reasonable.

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants to go to, lunches are good, very authentic compare to many other Japanese places, Bento lunch is delicious.

5 stars for Michigan is an easy rating for Sharaku. Michigan in general lacks truly great Japanese food or authentic sushi. If you want deep fried tempura cream cheese, your choices are aplenty — but for real, quality nigiri and sashimi, that is a challenge. Sharaku is definitely pricey — but worth it. For those who don’t speak Japanese or are not regularly around the language/culture, I can imagine it can be a little daunting dining at Sharaku. However, that lends to the authenticity. I regularly dine here both by myself(experience with Japanese language & culture) as well as with Japanese customers and colleagues and have consistent, high quality meals. From a review of the sushi, Sharaku gets very high quality fish and other ingredients and it shows. Their chefs understand how to properly slice and assemble their pieces with no sloppily put together bites coming to the customer. Interestingly enough, I know of many instances where even local sources provide ingredients to Sharaku where it immediately finds its way to table — this lends to the freshness greatly. Sharaku is consistent and can be counted on for a great meal — I highly recommend it whether you are a seasoned sushi/Japanese diner or someone looking to expand your horizons.

Clean but small, kept feeling like I needed something but waitress wasn’t there. Calamari was good, but wish it had a sauce or flavor, soft shell crab was great– tempura veggies were good. No ginger salad was disappointing but their house salad was good. Spicy Tuna was good just not the flavor I was expecting, spicy Cali was great. Rolls are small and come with 6 pieces so really, $ 6.00 a roll is expensive after seeing it. Really what irritated me was that all the Asian people got private tables but the white people sat in the front tables. We were offered one of two tables, even though we were only people in the restaurant, and both in front of the door— I wasn’t happy and explained I didn’t want the cold air on my kids– sorry, choose one of these two table— half the restaurant was still empty by the time we were done, not for reservations like they claimed. Then, for the kids, I just wanted noodles with teriyaki sauce– but they would NOT accommodate. Needless to say, we will not be back.

Excellent tasting food that’s prepared quickly. Interior of restaurant is very nice with some private rooms but it’s small, will need a reservation.

If you want amazing fresh sushi served authentically, this is your place. Great nigiri/sashimi selection. Disagree completely with some of the reviews regarding the price — for the quality of the fish, the price is quite good. Will definitely be back!!!

Truly authentic sushi experience. Simple, elegant and fresh fish; finest in Detroit that we’ve experienced. On par with any Omakase we’ve had in NYC or SF without the high prices. Limited English by the sushi chefs adds to authenticity :). If you want fresh, delicious and excellent sushi in Metro Detroit this is it!

Closest to Tokyo you can get in Michigan! Love this place. Went here after my Japanese coworkers recommended it. Brought in pictures of sake I like that is only sold in Japan so they could recommend something. It’s a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. A lot of the menu is hard to understand but the wait staff is very helpful with the ordering process. None of that Americanized sushi crap! Highly recommend!!!

OMG! This place is AMAZING! I haven’t had a bad meal YET! I’m trying to work my way through the menu! lol! The Grilled Mackerel and Salmon Teriyaki is DELICIOUS! Seriously, I’ve tried a lot on the menu. Not one disappointment yet! Love it!

I had high expectations for this place bc of Unilocal.I think this place is more of a sashimi place than anything. My friends and I, mostly got sushi. For how expensive the sushi rolls aren’t that big and is just average. Nothing impressive, that I would go out of my way for. Maybe this place is more of a sashimi place but sushi wise it’s ok. The fish are fresh but rice and flavor are lacking. Their clear soup is also good. And salmon is just fried salmon. Haven’t tried much of anything else.

Decided to visit this place last night with some friends. Here’s the pros and cons as I usually do it. Pros: +Very nice Décor inside. Nice wooden beams with private booths that look like rooms in japan. Reminds me of a Japanese whorehouse(although I’ve never been to one). +Full bar. +Authentic Japanese food. No frills. +Clear soup was amazing! +Wide Variety of rolls with ingredients you can’t find anywhere else. +Japanese people eating here. Cons: +Small menu. They could really branch out to create some more items with rice. +Sushi rice was dry. This irks me SO. MUCH. I mean it’s not hard to make moist sushi rice. Really ruined it for me. +Rolls were small for the price they were at. +Nigri was good, but sliced kind of thin and small. Didn’t look too appetizing. I was debating whether this would be a 3 – 4 stars, but decided to settle on 3 instead because of the dry rice. It’s a shame because this place could be so much better if the rice was better. Sushi is really one of my favorite things to eat, and when the rice is done wrong, it’s very easy to notice.

The restaurant is located in a plaza where there is adequate parking for all. I had the opportunity to check it out during lunch. The lunch items are descent and reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is not a big restaurant and cannot accommodate large crowds. I was under the impression that it can hold about 50 people at most. Many Japanese nationalists seem to go here during lunch, which is always a good sign. I had the chance to try the bento box and the spicy ramen with fried rice. When I think about it now, the spicy ramen and fried rice combo was a carb bomb. Physically, the content of the meal does not seem big, but it’s all carbs and broth. It will fill you up because we are talking about noodles and rice which will expand in your body. The flavor of the broth was rich, and you could definitely mix it with a bowl of white rice if you want to. The«spicy» comes from the meat itself and I think the restaurant could have given more meat. However, I can’t complain because the price was reasonable for meal I got. The second item is the lunch bento box. It’s a very light dish when I think about it. It came with the one piece of tuna, one piece of salmon, few pieces of tempura, a grilled mackerel, and etc. Granted Japanese people do not eat a lot or the cuisine itself does not pack a lot of quantity, I felt that it still could have used more substantive items in the bento box if I am paying in the 10’s for it. If you want to a lighter meal, bento box is the way to go, but if you want something hearty, the ramen and fried rice combo is better. The food was clean. The sashimi pieces indicated that the fish was at least pretty good. The salmon piece had nice white fat lines and

No doubt about it, expectations were high before setting foot into this restaurant. Located in a strip mall, the well-lit, minimally-decorated dining room was fairly small, featuring a few booths and a long sushi bar. The menu is varied but I was in the mood for sushi — specifically sashimi and rolls. I enjoyed both the tuna with avocado and rainbow rolls, the latter altered slightly to accommodate an allergy. The tamago(egg) was well made, as was the mackerel, my favorite. The latter did not have the characteristic slight after-taste that I’ve become accustomed to. Instead, it was rich, firm and delicious. The shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer was lightly fried and seasoned. Hot and crispy, the delicate tempura was incredible. For dessert, the server recommended sweetened red bean paste in a chewy rice pastry(mochi) that was wrapped in bamboo leaves. I was not a fan. The pastry was thick, chewy and not fun to eat. The bean paste was okay though, but not enough to compensate. The server was fantastic — friendly and helpful, anticipating what was needed before it was even requested. Pricing was a bit higher than was warranted when compared with other local places.

Really Disappointed. I’ve been to Sharaku a lot back when it first got popular. It was the best, most authentic Japanese restaurant around. Even my grandparents from Japan approved! It’s been over 10 years and my husband and I returned for his bday last night. Server was unpleasant and food quality was poor. What was most shocking was that the sushi nijiri rice was so crazy tiny! Way Overpriced and overrated. No longer the best. Never returning.
