Taco Johns

Was heading to Altoona late last night so I decided to stop and get some grub on my way out of town, so Taco Johns it was! The food at this location was very good. I ordered there promotional item Buffalo Crunchy Chicken Burrito and Wow was it tasty! The only downfall was that the Restaurant Manager had taken my order in the Drive-​thru and was very mono toned and just didn’t seem to excited! And as I got my food I noticed the that the Restaurant Manager who was running the window still had his food preparation gloves on which made me think many things like when he was going to change them or keep going about his business cleaning and keep helping finish the final product! But the experience was good overall, food was tasty and really wanted to get an Oreo Churro but resisted!

Was going to head to Hy Vee’s salad bar in WDM, when I was about to pass Taco Johns and decide to throw on the brakes and go through the drive through for a taco salad. Primary on my mind was that I hate having to go into the HyVee café after picking my own food with NO drink, and tipping the server for delivering your check to your table. HATE THAT! Got my taco salad home after paying $ 7.90 for salad and a small diet coke, didn’t find the salad very satisfying. Except for about 4 ounces of chicken, perhaps one sliced up black olive, and the equivalent of one cherry tomato, the salad was entirely shredded iceberg lettuce. There was a dollop of sour cream on it and I chose the salsa as my dressing, but for what I paid, the value with respect to quality was severely lacking. Next time I’ll drive a mile further down Grand to the HYVee salad bar and decide there’s absolutely no shame in stiffing a server that HYVee forces on you after getting all of your own food.

Don’t go at night. Guy was too quiet to hear. He made the food with almost no meat and sour cream even though we asked him not to. Food was not tasty although, that could be from the lack of meat.

Of course this is a fast food restaurant and you could get the same quality of food at any taco John’s but I am mainly impressed by the customer service at this location. I eat here about 2 days a week for lunch.
The employees are very welcoming, friendly and ensures your order is correct at the time placed and delivered. I wish more fast food places had this high standards for their customer service!

Pretty decent fast food tacos compared to Taco Bell. I had the Big Taco in soft shell. Plenty of condiments and then added my own hot sauce. Btw, hot sauce is mild and that was the hottest level.

This was my high school fast food of choice. I have many fond memories of meeting the friends here for a taco or two before taking our junker cars out and getting into trouble. I still love the tacos!!!
