I love sushi and I usually have great experiences but not at this place. The food quality the day I went was equivalent to sushi mac. My friend and I both got food poisoning and we were both throwing up for 2 days. Im very disappointed because this location is close to where I live and the restraunt itself was very nice plus the staff was very nice which is why I gave them more than one star.

One of my very good friends was hosting her birthday dinner here at Roku. Reviews weren’t great but I was excited to check out something new and celebrate my girl’s birthday. Roku is situated around the corner from Blind Dragon. The space isn’t large but it is one of those places ‘to be seen’, filled with a mixture of West Hollywood’s rich and/or pretentious. Staff is nice, however, from the hostess to the servers. The menu features Japanese fare with some fusion items thrown in. Their drink concoctions are interesting though of the few I tried, none blew me away. I tried a variety of dishes, and thought they were pleasant, but again, nothing that caught my taste buds. Either way, the experience was great and I wouldn’t mind paying another visit. Maybe it should be named RHOku. Sounds much cooler.

Had an amazing meal and drinks here. Staff was great, gave super recommendations. Loved the atmosphere, music and vibe. Loved the blue crab roll, and all the yummy sashimi & miso glazed fish was incredible Can’t wait to go back to try the hibachi! Definitely my fav sushi spot in the area !

The gorgeous décor was not a surprise as I work in the building and watched the space as the restaurant was put in. I fully expected great food and attentive service and was not disappointed. What did surprise me was the value of the Bento Box lunch. It offers a full lunch of hot and cold items for about the same price as a much more modest lunch anywhere else in the neighborhood. It is good to know that there is a quality and affordable place right here at 9201 Sunset to lunch with friends and colleagues.

I had heard a lot of hype about this place, so a friend and I decided to try it out. The staff here was very accommodating with our reservations, considering we were 15 minutes late. The staff at this establishment, overall, was amazing. Beginning from the seating hostess, and continuing through to the waiters and staff, every request I had was met and quickly at that. The décor is very nice, I appreciate all of the Bonsai trees in the restaurant, and the overall vibe is subpar. The food, however, is something to look down upon. All of the food that we had ordered was subpar, even leaning towards the negative direction. The sushi was flavorless, soggy, among other things. The sashimi was basted with garlic to mask the fishy smell. For the prices they’re charging, the food should be just as good. I will not be coming back.

Seeing this building become a few different restaurants in my time(Hamburger Hamlet, RivaBella/Chi Lin), I made a specific visit to check out the latest invention titled Roku while in the area. Operating under IDG, you can expect the typical trendy ambiance they are known for if you’re already familiar with their very close in proximity successful across-the-street steakhouse BOA, and Katana which is further down the same side of the street on Sunset Blvd. There are also more than a few Sushi Roku’s within town as well as outside of California. Now that you know the restaurant will be beautiful in design, let’s see if the fare measures up. Wasn’t initially planning on staying, as it was almost 2pm and was aware they stopped serving at 2:30p. However, what I wanted wasn’t available for take-away so I ended up making myself at home at their bar, which is directly to your left as you first walk in. Although I hate being ‘one of those customers’, I did alter one item on my lunch, and yes, I asked for a fork. If I want to actually Eat the food, I’m not going to be dealing with chopsticks. The custom bento box($ 15) comes with your choice of protein(beef, chicken salmon), rice, green salad, miso soup and the selection I omitted, which would have been tempura/sashimi, or a selection of cut rolls to choose from. I had no complaints on my chicken, and the only item I left in the salad were the sliced radishes. There were green beans(my favorite) along with the meat, and I think there were also pickled cucumbers with sesame seeds in the center box; I’m not sure but I ate every one of them. As for service, the hostess greeted me upon entering even though she was on the phone, and got right to me once she finished her call. The bartender for this afternoon(I think her name was Valerie) was great; friendly without being intruding, yet close by in case I needed anything additional. There were some minor glitches which were nothing to get upset about(I was offered an additional miso soup, and then almost given the wrong dish) and both times, my bartender was spot on. Anyone who would freak out about receiving something by mistake should not be eating in public. Since I’m not Hollywood attractive, the managers that were on duty ignored me, but I did see them go up to tables to speak to guests. What matters is the people whom I interacted with were perfectly fine. I didn’t want to stay past my welcome since they finished up lunch but judging from my experience today, I will be returning to Roku.

I have been wanting to go here, as FINALLY, an alternative to Benihana with the teppanyaki. FIrst off, we had a reservation, and seated us 25 minutes late – a no no, but especially for a teppanyaki bar — just seat us and delay. That happened too! There was a delay(not really more than usual) before the chef came out. The waitress was bubbly and fantastic— The chef was a cool hipster guy, cracking jokes about his drinking etc.-there were tourists at the table. The show was really good – better than Benihana. The food — it was good, I would say, on average, a bit better than Benihana, but way way more expensive. Was it worth it? IT was a cool place, a Hollywood hipster(at the moment at least) spot, but it was MUCH pricier — so overall, I would say, not worth the difference. The main course was outstanding but the sides and rice were either the same or marginally better.

New spot on Sunset Boulevard takes over the place of the old hamburger Hamlet. I enjoyed the food they had a great deal on a Bento box give you a nice arrangement of either fish chicken beef and sashimi me with salad and rice for only $ 15. Really nice energy and a nice spot to take a date if you’re looking for somewhere not too expensive, and at the same time looking for high quality food. Further, the service was spectacular and we were treated like 5-star clients.

I enjoyed lunch here. This is now my second visit… First visit Hostesses were barely dressed… today a lil less skin showing booooo lol… if you like that sort of thing lol. Food was good, atmosphere has an air of pretentiousness — mainly from the patrons because the staff is just friendly. Some folks are posturing, others are just having sushi for lunch and work in the building and others have the big bucks — you gotta cater to your clientele, and the vibe is upscale for the snooty! I’m going back… Bento Box is excellent value for $ 15: Huge piece of salmon over green beans, salad, miso soup, 4pcs of sashimi and rice! You can pick beef or chicken and other items besides the sashimi… Shisito Peppers w/parmesan cheese is DELICIOUS!(one out of five is HOT) Popcorn shrimp is DELICIOUS Sea Bass robata is DELICIOUS The bowls are good too but everyone was eyeing my Bento Box lmfao Enjoy Unilocalers!

Oh how I had such high hopes for this place and was just let down. I had been eagerly awaiting the grand opening of this restaurant, yet had no idea when it would be open to the public. I had asked the security guard multiple times, and he didn’t even know, so one night I went in and asked, and planned my evening around a day when they would be open. I had eaten at the sushi roku on west 3rd right before they closed, and this place is a huge, giant improvement over that place in terms of size and space. I came here with our sales director and one of the patient advocates. Foolishly I didn’t have reservations, but from the looks of the place, it was relatively empty and relatively early on a weeknight. The hostess said she didn’t have any tables open until 10 pm. So we asked for either the sushi bar or the regular bar, and were given seats at the sushi bar. As we were taken to the rear of the restaurant, I noticed that the majority of the tables were open. As was the case the entire time we were there, I was paying attention. After we were seated and given the menu, our waitress came by for our drink order. She explained that the sushi orders were given to the sushi chef, and everything else would go to her. Fair enough. Except that when the sales director told her specifically he would not be eating sushi bar, she said ok and took over 20 minutes to return to take his order after delivering our drinks. We had to flag down multiple people to get our waitress who was nowhere to be seen or found in the restaurant. It was extremely frustrating. I ordered a scorpion bowl which by the time it got to me, was just«meh» even though it had dry ice in it to keep it cold and«steamy.» I had the shishedo peppers which was hit or miss, generally ok. For dinner I wanted to try the chirashi bowl, but apparently, that is only offered at lunch. So I had Hamachi, tuna, salmon, kani sashimi which was good and fresh, and fast. I was disappointed in the choices of sushi rolls, or lack there of specialty rolls. Our poor sales director, he finally got his food after waiting almost an hour for it after ordering it. No explanation for why it took so long, the place was not that busy. Even worse, no apologies from our waitress. For dessert, we split the s’mores which was the best choice of the entire evening. It took us getting the very helpful busboy who went chase down the waitress so we could order dessert, but thankfully, it came out relatively fast(that is, if you can call 28 minutes for a dessert to come out). The bathroom was clean, thankfully, with loud music coming from the place next door. For what we ended up paying for dinner, I was highly disappointed. The service from that one waitress spoiled the entire evening. As we were leaving, the place was still relatively empty, so I was mildly confused at what took so long for dinner and for our waitress’ attention. Not once did she stop just to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else. The only saving grace of this experience was the sushi chef, who was the most attentive person in the restaurant, he got us what we needed, and the lovely busboy who once he could see our frustration, tried to be as helpful as he could, he even went and got more water for us. I would like to say I would come back here, but for that price, the service better be spectacular. There are many other places to enjoy in West Hollywood and I so want this one to be top notch.

I have never waiting more than 30 minutes for a confirmed dinner reservation but last night at Roku, I waited for 1.5 hours. The problem simply could’ve been solved if they didn’t overbook tables and didn’t promise us a reservation from the get go. Good thing we ran into friends to have drinks with in the meantime of the grueling wait. The place is very packed, mostly with people who come to «cruise» for drinks or small bites and don’t actually eat dinner. There was no standing room or seats. There are lots of pushy and aggressive foreigners who have wandering eyes. The scene was totally not what I expected considering it’s supposed to be a new hip restaurant. After being seated, the unapologetic hostess informed us that the silver living of all of this is we got the owner’s booth, which was in fact an ordinary booth, indifferent from any other table in the joint. This was not comforting at all. Once seated, they rushed us to order. The waiter was nice but short. The appetizers, drinks and food are great. I had asked to speak to the manager who was quick to give us two appetizers. A worker from the restaurant tried to introduce us to older foreign men, offering drinks, which we found was highly inappropriate. I think Roku can work on its etiquette and customer service to make the dining experience much better. Pros: food, drinks Cons: scene, customer service, wait and reservation system

Walked in with no expectations and was floored. Fast service, very attentive! Great and fresh grade of sushi and lots of veggie options. Most veggie dishes can be made gluten free and chef is very accommodating to those with dietary restrictions. Atmosphere is luxurious and upscale without feeling like you are at a sushi bar. Really enjoyed overall experience. Must get smores at the end! It’s a generous portion for 4 – 5 people to share. Even those who hate chocolate will like this dessert. My favorite dish of the night was the roasted kabocha squash which was spicy and sweet and just pure deliciousness!

I must admit that it’s very nicely decorated inside the restaurant, which is always great. However, I don’t think the food was much different from any other Sushi restaurant you walk into… in any part of town. You’re certainly paying for the experience, not the amazing food. I wasn’t impressed, like I thought I would be. I went with a friend and we ordered 5 items on the menu. I left hungry… not just because i’m a fatty, but because there was hardly anything on those plates that were brought to us. We ordered the Japanese Fried Chicken, Crab Cake Sliders, Tuna Tartare, Eel/Avocado Roll, the Fried Crab Roll, and 2 drinks/vodka. Even with all that(or lack of All That)…I was still hungry. I would say that the Crab Cake Sliders were my favorite. Everything else was just okay. The Rolls would have been a bit better with some Siracha or other sauce, a bit bland for me. I completely understand that this restaurant is meant to cater to a different clientel, but I’m still disappointed with the food. I have no problem paying what i did, but the next time I have a sushi craving I’ll go somewhere a bit less fancy, where I’ll get more food, same quality, and donate the difference to a nonproit. Our waiter was very friendly. Although we did sit at the Sushi bar and ordered our rolls directly from the chef, he waited on us for everything else I’m not sure what the parking situation is for the restaurant. My friend lives around the corner and we walked.

The food was yummy — I was excited to try since I LOVE boa. We did a few apps on the happy hour… And while I thought the food was good, katsuya and sugarfish are definitely much better for the same price. The reason for two stars is how poor the service was. All of the waitresses were just standing around in the back chatting, while we waited about 20 min to get our bill. Then we realized they charge something wrong on there(which was more expensive). Soo the service REALLY needs to improve before dumping $ 100(for 2 People) again just for happy hour apps and 2 drinks…

What a sexy atmosphere! Doesn’t disappoint in vibe or style. The bar is fun– so many familiar faces and great place to grab cocktails. Loved the grapefruit st Germaine rose drink. Same people who brought us Boa and Katana/similar LA vibe. The food is actually really good too! The fluke was refreshing, baked crab hand roll melts in your mouth, signature roles on point, sea bass robata outstanding, BUT the lobster roll is most dry lobster I have ever tried! And the surf and turf skewer is mixed– steak mouth watering but the lobster had shell! Crunch crunch– ewe. Avoid the lobster… Everything else made up for it. But don’t come if on a budget and hungry!!! Pricey!!!

All I can say is that this place is a total disappointment. I was initially very excited about the opening of Roku. The location was ideal for me and I was excited for a new restaurant opening. My friends and I actually went on a Monday night which was their grand opening. The service was OK. But there was a lot of mixups with tables. The servers and bussers kept bringing food to the wrong tables which is OK considering it was their first official night. My main problem lies with the food. There were four of us and we decided to try everything across-the-board. We got the squash, the albacore and onions, the yellowtail sashimi, Seabass skewers, fried rice, and multiple rolls of a variety of sushi. All I have to say is that all the hot food is covered in butter and that the sushi is pretty disgusting. It doesn’t even look fresh when it comes out. You are better off getting sushi from a supermarket. Three out of the four us got FOODPOISONING. I called to let them know the next day and the manager, Christian, apologized and said he would follow up with me the next day, which he never did. I really don’t appreciate the quality of food especially for that price tag. So much unnecessary hype. I’m so disappointed.

Roku is gorgeous! The kabocha squash is the best squash I’ve EVER had! Simply amazing! They have sushi roku/katana items like hanabi and yellowtail with diced chills which are always great. Grilled octopus — must get! Fried rice w shrimp and pork was pretty good too. The manager and waitress were as nice as can be, def gonna go back ASAP

This hot new trendy restaurant opened just days ago and did an amazing job transforming the space from the Italian restaurant it was before. A cross between BOA and Katana, there is so much variety here! And such a beautiful ambiance! The architecture was well executed. Tuna tacos wrapped in seaweed were delicious, although I wasn’t warned that there was wasabi inside and my mouth was on fire! Salmon was cooked perfectly, edamame and popcorn shrimp were tasty and the New York steak was perfection. The spicy tuna was eh, I’ve had better. The smores we got for dessert was a perfect ending to our meal and mimicked the atmosphere with a zen garden layout. Service was also great– waiters make sure to satisfy all their customers.
