Ace of Cuts Barber Shop

Updating an earlier review, meriks shop is the only place I’ll go for a cut. It’s clean, well-​run and fairly priced. Never had a bad experience. Been coming here for about a year if not longer. Keep up the good work!

Merik is a nice guy, but he has very limited skill and communication skill. I’ve been going to him every 3 weeks for about 4 months and he was decent the first few times when my hair was shorter (hence the 1 star). Since I’ve been growing my hair out his lack of skill has showed. Gave him 3 tries with my longer hair. First time I asked him to barely trim the top and he chopped off an inch. Second time I actually let the young kid in the back do it. He couldn’t fade it. I actually looked like a mushroom. Merik came over and told me I have «difficult» hair to cut. He said because it’s light colored. It’s light brown/​blonde. My hair is actually very thick and straight. Easy to cut and no barber in the 36+ years I’ve been getting haircuts has said that. I was also in the Marines and got haircuts every single week for 4 years. Anyway, Merik fixed Michael’s mushroom job. Only saving grace is Michael didn’t start the fade too high up (like I asked). So last night I wait for Merik, told him a low #1 fade nothing off the top. My hair was combed how I like when I went in so he can see how I wear it. It was about 5 inches on top. He proceeds to give me a medium to high fade lopping off a lot of the hair on the side that was slicked back (dry). Again he made the comment that my hair is difficult to cut. I told him I never heard that before. Then he made excuses why he «had» to go high with the fade. So now a day later I can’t wear my hair in the way I’ve been training it the last few months because the sides are so messed up. The only saving grace is my hair grows super fast so this atrocity will be a thing of the past in a couple weeks. Merik finds it difficult to cut my hair because he’s not very talented at all. He’s more of a maintenance man of the head than a stylist. Sad thing for Merik is, he knows that I have two young sons. So he’s losing 3 customers, not one.
If you keep a very short hair style, Merik is your man I guess.
If not, go elsewhere. Where? I’m not sure. Think I will grow the Jacob deGrom look to avoid this problem all together… lol

Solid haircut for the price — clearly a popular neighborhood spot. I think the «regulars» get a lot more out of their experience than someone just in town for the day visiting their relatives (my case, was there the day after Thanksgiving). I think the staff was a little «to the point» and conversation was a tad awkward — but that’s more on me being an «outsider,» again, I think.

Merick is the guy to go to for your haircut. Very professional and keeps people coming back with the quality of his work. Low prices for a haircut compared to other shops too.

What a great find. I usually post reviews on restaurants, but this place is so great that I wanted to share. The quality of the cuts are fantastic, the prices are very reasonable, and the customer service is impeccable. Merik and Robert are so good at treating the customer right. You can’t help but feel that your business is important to them… mainly because it is and they consistently show that they do care. Nice to see the basic principles of customer service as pride being applied… I highly recommend!

Fast and efficient. Mike was very cordial and made the experience of walking into a new barber shop less intimidating.

Great place, great atmosphere, No crazy music, no wait time. Great with kids. Really an enjoyable experience. Most of all great barbers. Robert does a great job as well as Merik. Thank you for making my boyfriend even more handsome then he already is.

I’ve been coming here since 2012 and I’m always satisfied with my haircut. The staff is very good and very friendly. Merik is my go to barber, but the rest of the staff do a nice job. I’m confident you will be happy with your cut.

I needed a haircut for my wedding, and hadn’t been to a barbershop in over a decade. I’m extremely nervous and picky about people cutting my hair. Robert did a FANTASTIC job (he could tell I cut my own hair, and had me laughing) and fixed it up. My fiancée was impressed and incredibly happy. Robert converted me, the days of cutting my own hair are over, and I’ll definitely be going back to Ace of Cuts. Great prices, great skilled barbers who take pride in their work.

Went here once because I needed a cut at the last minute before a wedding and didnt have time to drive out to my regular barber. Worst fade I ever got. I asked for a mid fade but got a really high fade, that really didn’t even fade good at all. I keep my hair longer on top so going too high really doesn’t give much room to blend. Common sense. I had to go home and fix it myself. Had to cut the top short to blend the sides. Guy didn’t know how to do a fade. Left there looking more like a mushroom cut from the 90s than a fade.

Excellent service, clean shop, good prices. There isn’t much else to say, I know I’ll be going back.

Merik is the man. Meticulous and skillful. Strives to give you a fantastic haircut. He cut my hair a few hours ago and I really like what he did. If cutting hair was a sport he would be in the Big Leagues!

This place is great. I’m new to the area and have been looking for a go to place and have finally found it. The shop is very clean and everyone is very welcoming. Did not have to wait either. I got a great cut and beard trim from Robert today. I did did not have to give much instruction and he did a great job.

Very talented staff. The owner (pronounced «Merrick «but I know the spelling is different) is very proud of his store. You are greeted immediately with a warm welcome. Shop is pristine. His young son rang me up when I was done. Great local shop. I highly recommend this place.

After years at Cactus in DP, my barber left. I decided why not try my local barber in West Islip & I have to say I was pleased. I walked in & was seated with Robert, who was very welcoming. The shop was clean & staff was extremely friendly. Robert did a great job with my cut & I think I have found my go to barber shop going forward. Def would recommend!

I’ve been going to Ace of Cuts for a few years now and these guys are great. Robert is my regular barber and he does a fantastic job in my hair as well as my son. The owner, Merik, is also a good guy who knows how to cut hair like a pro and knows his business. The philosophy is «we style… you smile» and they mean it. Customer is king here. By far the best barbers in West Islip and surrounding area… I’ve tried many but am sticking with Ace of Cuts…

Great local barber shop. I’ve been coming here since it opened. Never had a bad experience here. I’ve had my hair cut by each of the guys (and Linda), and they all listen to your request and style with a smile. I’ve seen all age groups here from toddler’s to old guys like me.

I moved to west islip like 3 to 4 yeard ago was looking for a good place to get a hair cut without having to tell the person how to cut my hair 100 times ! I came to ace i told the guy what to do and he was on his way ! I went back 2 weeks later and the guy who cut my hair remembered me and I did not have to tell him what to do ! Wow ! I have to say the place is clean and the workers are cool and friendly ! So if you did not try this place I think you should you will be very happy ! And you will make a new friend that the way this place is ! Keep up the good work guys !!!
