Pretty good. No complaints, I’d stick with the chicken platter

The food was good but very expensive! I paid $ 14 for a lamb platter, that’s insane! The portion size was way too small for that price. Don’t know if I will be back.

Great food. Very close in taste to the halal guys in nyc(I’m someone who would go to the city just for the halal guys). The white sauce isn’t as thick, but everything else hits the spot. I will be using these guys as a local substitute.

Delicious food, love their chicken platter and chicken gyro. Corn nuggets are my fave-so yummy! Potato samosa was spicy for me(but friends of mine will attest that I can’t handle spice at all) but still crisp and flaky on the outside and tasty inside. Food is consistently good! A go to for take out for my family.

Overall the place was good, but not as great as the original. I also had a very awkward experience. I got the groupon for 2 platters and sodas. We weren’t notified of our drink options, so we just chose our own and were given a free piece of cake and«free» mango lassi. It was super nice of them so I tipped a few dollars. Afterwards, when we were about to leave, they said we owed $ 5 because of the drinks that we chose and he said the mango lassi wasn’t supposed to be free… sorry? Prior to that, the owner asked for my honest opinion, so I gave it to him in a polite manner of course. Maybe I did deserve the small amount of wrath of an Indian father that incurred. I can understand that you want to fight for your business, but please don’t sit next to us afterwards and talk with your buddy about it. Talk behind our backs, please. Super uncomfortable. Tried to leave asap after that. Likes: –service was pretty good. The owner is a nice guy(despite it all) and so was the cashier. — had more cumin than the original –i didnt have to pay any tolls. Not that I’d venture all the way to the city specifically for chicken and rice. — you have a nice warm place to sit. — hot sauce wasn’t crazy spicy Dislikes: –The lamb is comparable, but a little more salty –Chicken had more flavor than the original, but i personally wasn’t too into it. –The rice was plain. In this case it was a good thing because the lamb was so salty. If they would decrease the amount of salt in the lamb and possibly season the rice more, that would be nice. — size and price: not as big of a portion as 53rd and 6th. Price is fair considering they have an actual establishment; again, still not into it. — white sauce isn’t as great

We typically get takeout from here and more recently delivery! Each time has been equally as great as the last. I’m pretty picky with any gyros or lamb over rice, and I can honestly say this place has become or is nearly identical to my preference and standard. If you’re on the fence for trying it, I advise you not to be! It really is a little gem of a spot in West Nyack and I hope their business thrives!

I have been there twice. The food is delicious. The only downside is that then prices are a little high in my opinion.

We ordered lunch for 10 people from here for the first time today, but decided to go pick it instead of have it delivered. Not only was the food delicious, the portions were large(8 of us had to take the rest home) and at $ 8.95 per platter, the price was well worth it. Staff was super nice and they gave us 2 large bottles of soda due to the order total. We will definitely add this place to our takeout rotation every Friday at Liqui-Site!

I really don’t understand why people are giving this place bad reviews. A lot of them are about the prices, which 1. they recently lowered and 2. you cannot compare the price of this food to a nasty food stand. Also, the food does not take THAT long to come out. They are cooking it, which is a good thing. Management here is great. Sunny, the owner is very kind and helpful. All in all the friendly service and quality food makes this a place I will continue to come back to. I recommend the lamb platter and their indian food(which is a welcome surprise).

Loved it! I’m a fan of the Halal carts you see in the city and this place had exactly what I was looking for. My wife ordered a falafel platter, and I had a lamb platter. The guy at the counter couldn’t have been any nicer or more helpful! He was so happy to explain each menu item for my wife(who is a rookie when it comes to Halal food). Our food came out very quickly and was delicious. The portions were large enough that we both had leftovers for another meal. Neither of us are overly picky but we do enjoy good food, I wouldn’t write a review about this place if I didn’t feel they deserved it. Is this place cheap? No. Is this place reasonable? Absolutely. This isn’t a cheap food truck slopping food in a container every 30 seconds, nor is this a fancy restaurant where you need a reservation. This is a nice, new, clean place with good food and a very friendly staff. I will definitely be back soon… very soon. (I don’t get all the low reviews here. You could take one star off if you thought the prices were too high. I thought the friendliness of the staff more than made up for the extra dollar or two you pay from a cart. That’s why they got 5 stars from me.)

First thing I am going to say the food is really over priced. I don’t enjoy paying 15 $ for food when I can get it cheaper in the city. You guys are money hungry and only Care about yourselves. Make the plates, 6 – 7 dollars pretty sure you would get more customers. I know you guys probably backed up on rent but you guys need a new method the way you guys going won’t last

It is decent halal New York City cart food. The place is a little weird as they have music videos playing on big screens and a pizza place like setup. Make sure to call ahead I had to wait 15 minutes for my food when I went in to order at the counter. But overall probably the best streetcar type food in the area if there is any other even available.

My wife and I very rarely agree on a take out spot but C&R has stuff that we can both agree on. These guys do decent halal takeout and they have the best falafel in rockland county. Grab some samosas, chicken tikka masala, and some of the free sauce they give out and you won’t be disappointed. Solid place for takeout.

This is by far, the closest thing to Halal Guys(53rd and 6th) that you can find outside of their official locations. I had just been to Halal Guys the night before so my basis for comparison is pretty good. Their gyro meat and rice is pretty much exactly the same. I think that their chicken may even be better because it’s well seasoned, with garam masala if I had to guess. The hot sauce is not nearly as hot, but it is good. Probably about the same as the hot sauce other halal carts in NYC use, which seems like Frank’s Red Hot mixed with various chilis. The white sauce seemed creamier. There are other things on the menu as well, but I care more about the combo platter. So why no perfect 5 star rating for the existence of a place equal to or better than Halal Guys? Because their prices are ridiculous. Outside of happy hour, a platter costs $ 14. The portion size is the same as a small from the brick and mortar location for Halal Guys on 14th St. And Halal Guys still only charges $ 6 for their small platter, and I’m pretty sure rent prices in NYC are higher than in West Nyack. The other problem is that they’re only open til 10pm. And these platters are generally a late night drunk food option. Juicy Platters in NJ has got it right, at $ 8 a platter and open til 2am daily and 4am weekends. If Chicken and Rice would adopt these prices and hours, I’m sure that they’d get way more late night business.

I really want to like this place, and it certainly does have potential. However, Chicken and Rice in West Nyack suffers from an identity crisis. Is it a sit down place? Is it a stationary version of the NYC halal carts? Is it a takeout place? Pros: — The food is pretty good. Best of it’s type in a 5 mile radius, and yes, Chicken and Rice in West Nyack is in the same ballpark as Halal Guys in NYC. — The extended menu is pretty interesting with some definite indian influences, some thai, and others. — Location is nice. Close to the mall without all the noise. It’s in a cute little strip mall, and if the weather is nice, get your food to go and eat at the park across the street with a quaint gazebo. — The people there are super nice! Cons: — Slooooooooooooooowwww… Reeeeeaaaaallly sloooooooooowwww… I mean, from the time i ordered to the time i actually got my food, the chicken must’ve just hatched. I was watching the youtube playlist on the 2 huge tvs while also watching my stomach growl and my fingernails grow. If you want to come here, order, eat a slice of pizza from the place 2 doors down, and you’ll be hungry again by the time your food comes. Maybe i went at the wrong time when only 2 ppl were manning the shop, but it took obscenely long. They got a store… Halal Guys got a cart. So why does it take longer to get me my food if they have more space to work with??? — Price point. The prices are way too high for a platter that size. — Competition. Yes, they are comparable to Halal Guys without having to cross the river, but go to Jersey, and if you’re just talking halal/chicken and rice, Juicy Platters in Fair Lawn blows this place away on all fronts: better food, bigger size, more variety(when it comes to chicken/lamb/falafel and rice platters), lower price, faster speed, and better white sauce. — Décor. I dunno… just something about the ambiance doesn’t click. RECIPEFORSUCCESS: — Chicken and Rice has to decide what it wants to be: — If they want to be a HALALTAKEOUTPLACE, then the store itself is fine in red and yellow, but what NEEDS to change is SPEED and PRICE. Give me my food faster — get it to me before i have the chance to get restless, and do it for ~$ 8 per platter. If they’re concerned about foot traffic or customer volume, accomplish the speed & price thing, and rave reviews with word of mouth will follow. Stay open late(like midnight in peak season) and the local college market will follow. — Possibly even better, turn this into a CUTEDATEPLACE, if they can’t work on the speed and price, then this is the way to go. Give me lots of little tables for 2 or 4. Have a waiter or 2. While i’m waiting for food, bring some pita and hummus with olive oil so me and my date have something to munch on and we don’t get cranky/hangry; cups of jasmine or mint tea. Seriously, make me comfortable while waiting. Consider it foodie foreplay. Screw the aluminum platters and get some vintage china and silverware. Make it a BYO place. Have hookah available. If they go this route, ambiance/design MUST change. i’m talking blues & purples instead of red & yellow; dim the lights — each table lit by candles; i’m talking a less aggressive logo, and make it classy; get rid of the huge tvs; play jazz, slow jams, old school, or maybe middle eastern/indian ethnic music. So once again, i’m not hating. The Singh family that owns this place are LOVELY people. I want this place to succeed. But Chicken and Rice has to define it’s personality for that to happen. Once it does, i’ll gladly update this review.

Tonight my friends and I decided to order and get food delivered from Chicken and Rice. What a mistake. We receive the food and its a lot less than they give you in restaurant. For $ 12.95 for the chicken tikka masala, there was not much in the containers. We also specifically asked for a lot of the white sauce, which the person on the phone said ok. They gave us 6 little containers of white sauce for 3 platters. Each small container of sauce was less than half filled! If they are trying to make ends meet, this is not the way! My friends had ordered the mango lassi, which didn’t even fill the container. It’s like we’ve been short changed on everything when ordering it out. The food is still good, but it’s not worth ordering out with small portions(at the same high price). I would not recommend this place if you are ordering out or getting delivery! I’ve eaten at the place a couple times already and you get more for your buck when eating in the restaurant, otherwise it seems as though you don’t get as much.

I came here for the lamb and rice and it was pretty good. Comparably to 53rd and 6th the difference in the meat and rice was not noticeably. The real difference is the white sauce. It tasted good but was subpar compared to the Halal guy’s white sauce. Would I go again? Although I enjoyed the food, I find it hard to shell out $ 14 bucks for it. The city only cost $ 7 and the food quality is not even close to being better.

Falafel sandwich: the falafel balls are ok, they put some kind of salad dressing all over the veggies in the sandwich that i did not care for. Falafels need Tahini, not some dairy based salad dressing. almost good, lots of room for improvement.

Finally! Nyc has come to Nyack. You must be familiar with Halal carts to fully appreciate Chicken and Rice. This place is Halal carts on crack! Their chicken and lamb is fresher and tastier than any cart I’ve ever tried, and 53rd and 6th and Hamza and Madina are on the top of my list. Their spices and sauces are on point. You must try the white sauce, and if you love spicy be sure the add their hot sauce! If you’re lucky, you’ll catch some of their specials which include a chocolate samosa. Come, eat, become obsessed! I’m not sure why Unilocal doesn’t recommend all of the positive reviews for Chicken and Rice. Many of the negative reviews are from people who clearly did not know what to expect based on the name. Chicken and rice refers to halal street food. This place is good, come and decide for yourself.

Unfortunately this place has a sweet staff, its very clean but the food is just passable at best. I want them to succeed because I live close by and we need something different. Its called Chicken and Rice but the menu is all over the place. I asked if the Gyro meat is fresh made and the counter man said yes. It was obviously previously frozen and served dry and overcooked. The flavor was just barely ok but not great by any stretch. Ordered a House salad that said Cucumber, Onion, Tomato and Lettuce. The reality was 95% lettuce and a tiny bit of tomato and chopped onion with no salad dressing. Just a tiny bit of the gyro sauce was on top. Its was not good. They need to make a nice lemon or balsamic dressing.
