I’ve been here for Sunday brunch and now dinner, and both times the Alchemist showed that it not only has an amazing menu, but the staff and execution to support it. I love that the brunch pitchers, which easily contain six pours, go beyond the usual bloody mary and mimosa offerings. I highly recommend the Pavan Pitcher, with orange slices, rosemary and muscat/orange blossom liqueur. The bellini pitcher wasn’t bad either. As for the food, my cousin and I both got the lobster croissant, which despite its unfavorable egg-to-lobster ratio was so delicious that I need to(somewhat grudgingly) give it 5 stars. As for dinner, my friend and I ordered the roasted bone marrow(yum) the Cuban cigars(a Cuban sandwich in a spring roll — yum) and the Korean bbq tacos(also yum). We also ordered dessert, which was two mini milkshakes and three giant cookies, of which we could only finish one, we were so stuffed. Service is good, food is excellent, will return!

My wife and I sat at the bar for 2 different nights during happy hour while we were in town in June. We give the bartenders(all of them, they are all very cool and friendly), the cocktails, and the happy hour value a 5. There is also bar-side bacon as a snack, which is awesome. The reason for the 4 is the food we ordered was better than OK but not great.

Came here for happy hour and was extremely satisfied. They had half priced drinks at the bar and a great happy hour menu! I would suggest getting a couple of the delicious 3 $ Korean tacos, although they are a bit messy, they hit the spot! Also the Sliders are really good too, and the Chicken nuggets are a great choice as well. Definitely the place to come for happy hour. Would recommend!

Bottom line: The experience has been designed by professional chefs and is being executed by inexperienced amateurs. The wine list and desserts deserve the 4 stars Unilocalers have given this place, but that’s all that shined through on our visit. We got some pita bread and hummus; the bread wasn’t soft and lovably chewy as you’d like. It was stiff and staleish. Next, the deviled eggs were busy with all sorts of clever toppings but we found them underwhelming. The fish tacos weren’t so bad, but the execution, again, destroyed the experience. Tacos with 5-inch-wide stems of cilantro laid all the way across, like bouquets? Anyone heard of a knife? Then we got a burger described as being ground prime filet(a not-very-fatty but tender cut) — and it was served quite dry. It was like eating a mouthful of Charmin with every bite. The food-runner later brought desserts, which were gelato and fried oreos. Cluelessly the runner dumped the gelato, which was half-way melted(again, poor execution: why not start with a cold bowl?), and didn’t even realize we had no silverware remaining on the table for it. He was gone before we could tell him. The riesling was great. The guy choosing the wines is doing well, with the exception that he’s only choosing them by name in many cases — Montelena, Heitz, Grgich Hills, Silver Oak, and so on. At this«level» of dining, you’re supposed to say«Wow.» Two people, $ 140, and we didn’t. (P.S. The fried Oreos were amazing, though.)

Update: 5÷13÷2016 I contacted the Alchemist the following day and their response has been surprising. They profusely apologized and walked me through the ways they are improving. The owner personally apologized and hooked me up with a 50 dollar gift card. A business shows its true colors not when everything goes right, but how it reacts when things go wrong. Check this place out and talk to the wait staff, they are there to help. Good job, The Alchemist! I try to be pretty positive when going out to places. I went here with my family for my birthday with a group of about 8 people. While they did throw us a dirty look when asking for more pita bread overall the server handled us excellently and she was on top of her game. The décor here is beautiful and if you want to feel cool in a bar on clematis, this is the place to go. Why the 2 stars? Well, first the drink menu isn’t nearly incentive enough for a place called the«Alchemist», most of the stuff is too run of the mill and sweet. That I can all get over, but the biggest issue is the undercooked Alchemist Burger I received. Unfortunately, due to the low lighting and misguided trust of the kitchen I ate the burger. I’m now paying dearly. 3 people on our check and it came out to over 100 bucks. With those prices undercooked meat is unacceptable.

I’ve been to Alchemist a few times since I moved closer to West Palm a couple of years ago. They have a great selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and other entrees. The ambiance is good. They have a cool bar area, nice bartenders, complementary bacon if you sit there — which goes a long way for me. I tend to come back for their shrimp and pork dumplings, lobster poppers, and deviled eggs. All are excellent. Their burgers and sandwiches are solid. I enjoyed their brunch every time they went. Haven’t had the steak but they have it priced out more than I’m willing to spend — mind you, I won’t spend that at most steakhouses so that’s just a matter of preference. Overall though, I like the gastropub. Now if they only put together a good happy hour menu, then I may frequent the place a lot more.

Pretty cool bar. Good spot to hang for a couple of drinks and people watch if you can grab an outside table(didn’t realize what a happening scene it was on Clematis St.!) Large, local-tinged list of canned/bottled beers(e.g., Due South), though I wish they had more draught options. The standout for me was the Smoke Squared Old Fashioned — a pretty classic OF with the twist of it being cooled by a giant, Cherrywood smoke-infused ice cube. Very impressive — I languorously enjoyed the drink as the smokiness increased with each sip. If I were still in New York, I would consider the service friendly if slightly on the slow side. Based on the other bars we visited on the block, however, the service was quite a standout — after leaving a couple of bars where we couldn’t get a drink(or even find a hostess in one case) it was refreshing to be able to successfully order and receive drinks.

–I have been to the Alchemist for drinks a few times but I just decided to try it for dinner this past weekend. I ended up ordering the chicken empanadas and a side salad and both were fantastic. The empanadas with aioli sauce was spicy and flavorful and perfectly cooked. Packed with chicken and not too crispy and not oily. I also wanted a small salad but there was nothing on the menu, the bartender said a side salad wasn’t a problem and it came out decently sized, fresh, and with a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. I also ordered the Frutta di Bosco for dessert but I wasn’t a fan of the sugared berries. The flavor wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t order it again. To be fair, it was not the dessert the bartender recommended. –Huge props for beautifully plated food. Everything that passed by me was lovely to look at and since almost every plate was completely empty, I assume everyone else liked their food as much as I did. –I wanted the same cocktail I had in the past but it was no longer on the menu. An updated version of «Save the Waltz» was listed as «The Forbidden Garden» and it used handmade cucumber water and lime vodka instead of cucumber, muddled mint and Hendricks gin. The bartender was than happy to make the old version of the drink for me. In fact, he also made my friend another older drink that was no longer on the menu, «New Fashioned». –Nitty Gritty, Great service, good food, but very limited happy hour. It is literally an hour and you had better get there at the start or you won’t get near the bar.

Beautiful restaurant in nice part of West Palm Beach. Food was wonderful. I had the Cuban cigars, served in an ashtray dish. How cute is that? Tasty! I tasted my friends’ meals and omg, now I know why I am fat. Actually I already knew but I thought that would be cute to say. Hamburger was great. Truffle fries delish. Regular fries crispy and yummy. I would recommend this restaurant. Wait staff was so sweet and friendly. Only drawback was street parking and there are a few small parking lots around.

Had a fantastic time here this evening. They have Bell’s Two Hearted Ale which is awesome. There’s a star just for that. The appetizer and small plates are actually a really generous size. Coming from NYC I thought the plates would be really small so I over ordered big time. Favorites tonight were the crab guacamole and popcorn shrimp. Brussels sprouts and«devil’s eggs» were good too. Great décor and friendly, attentive staff. I’d come back again to try the bone marrow app.

Sometimes, you spot a place on the google machine, and it looks awesome. Sometimes, you get lucky and it turns out to be pretty awesome in person. Walk in, and this place has an antiquated feel. Old books and candelabras, and a menu that weighs five pounds. Dim lights and rustic tables complete the feel. It’s got a vibe of old school sophistication with a touch of medieval pub. The menu is a little all over the map(literally and figuratively). You can go with a lot of small international plates or just go for a steak. The menu is both a blessing and a curse for indecisive diners. A group of four of us went the small plate route: Shishito peppers — these are pretty standard anywhere, but the portion is generous. If you’ve never had them before, it’s basically Russian roulette of pepper. One of every ten is hot, and the rest are mild. You get a solid 30ish peppers. Spicy Lobster Poppers — really interesting dish, and is more reminiscent of sushi than anything else. The poppers are sticky rice balls topped with lobster in a spicy mayonnaise sauce, over a ponzu soy sauce. It’s all the elements of a great sushi roll delivered like you’ve not had before. Merguez Sausage — probably one of the less interesting dishes of the night. I do love me some lamb merguez sausage, and this wasn’t anything unique. Still good if you are craving it, but if not, you can skip. Korean Tacos — nicely flavored tacos with tender pork belly and crispy skin for a nice textural crunch. The spicy aioli complements the sweetness of the pork nicely. Good dish. Lobster Mac and Cheese — large serving with a respectable amount of lobster. Interesting choice of macaroni here using really short cut macaroni noodles(think a kraft noodle cut in 3 pieces), which lends itself to pure cheese saturation. Fried Chicken Sandwich — this is a big old piece of fried chicken that overflows from the bun. Generally when something is advertised as spicy, I don’t buy into the hype, but this dish delivers on the heat in a powerful, yet balanced way. Solid execution across the board here. Dish also came with a heaping pile of truffle fries. Can’t go wrong with that, ever. All of the food was more than enough for the four of us, bordering on too much food. Total for all the food after tax and before tip? $ 89! That’s a mere $ 22 a person for a really excellent meal. You cannot go wrong here.

Came with my husband on a Saturday night around 9:30pm for a late dinner. We sat almost immediately, and got a great table tucked in the corner of the restaurant. I was looking forward to an intimate, well-prepared meal but ended up eating in a dimly lit, night club. From what we were told by a manager who asked about our first experience at the Alchemist, it was to be expected on the weekend, and that late in the evening. The restaurant was filled with high-pitched, nasally voices, a bourgeois crowd of women. Rather annoying, and definitely not my cup of tea. I really shouldn’t have expected anything less from the Clematis area. Our server Sarah was attentive, and explained a couple items on the menu so we could get an idea of the food preparation, which was nice. It did seem like she was trying to up-sell paired food & wine specials, but I don’t really drink much so I wasn’t interested. At one point I ran out of water(which really peeves me), but after she realized we were thirsty, she didn’t allow our glasses to empty again. Pita bread and fresh hummus was complimentary, which helped quiet our hungry stomachs. I ordered the Crab Strozza Pretti Pasta, which was a generous portion for $ 19. There was plenty of shredded blue crab, the pasta was perfectly cooked, and the peppers and capers were just enough. It was a little spicy, which I wasn’t expecting, but it was still a tasty dish. My husband ordered the fish and chips($ 21), which came with a side of thick cut fries, and mushy peas. The cod was fresh, the batter was crunchy, and the over all flavor was on point. The mushy peas… Well, this is something the English enjoy, not me. Our decision to eat at the Alchemist was strictly because of the quality of their late menu. I’m happy we gave it a try, great find. Next time we’ll avoid the obnoxious crowd and come earlier in the day!

This was a Unilocal find! I never come up this way but just happened to be in the area. After being at a conference for 5 hours, I was starving and couldn’t wait to Unilocal something! Found this place on Unilocal. It had good reviews and was close by. It sounded cool, so we decided to give it a try. I’m so glad we did! It was pouring so the place was pretty empty. We got seated right away and the server was really quick and super nice! They have a great selection of tap and craft beers, which always impresses me. They also have cool signature drinks — ask the waiter, he’ll let you know what’s good depending on what you like. We ordered the sausage sampler appetizer. Oh my god — AMAZING! Seriously best thing I’ve had in a long time! The spread was delicious! Different kinds of sausage with onions and pickles and mustard. It was so good! I was pretty full from the sampler but since I never come up this way I decided I wasn’t going to waste the trip — I ordered the skirt steak with mashed potatoes! Oh my god — amazing again! I was impressed! The steak was cooked perfectly(medium) drizzled in juices! The mashed potatoes were so good as well! It was a lot of food, I didn’t finish it. My boyfriend got a burger. It was HUGE. I tried a small piece(I couldn’t even bite it because it was so big) and it was good but I was obsessed over my steak. His fries were amazing as well! This place was worth every penny! I’m so glad we came! Ps: the bathroom was super cool!

I remember asking Blue about a casual stop in West Palm to grab a bite after attending an art event. back in December. I finally had a chance to check The Alchemist since I was in the area for Art Palm Beach. I was even able to find street parking literally in front of the restaurant. The Alchemist has a cool speakeasy vibe; you’ll feel right at home whether on a dinner date or a solo football dinner(especially so when your team beats the Cheatriots) The staff was friendly from manager Brandon, to my waitress Christal with her food and drink recommendations. I enjoyed a perfectly dry and chilled 2013 Pinot Grigio. It went smooth with my meal, and helped ease the nerves when that certain football gang almost stole the game. My meal started off with complimentary bread and slightly spicy hummus, along with the juicy meatballs and olive-oil dipped bread. Another perfect thing about my app was that they didn’t skimp on the marinara sauce. Next up was their namesake burger, perfectly messy with cheddar, chicharrones, pork burger and even kale. It was also garnished with a jalapeño and plum tomato(points for presentation!) Medium well yet juicy, it made a great celebratory meal. Although I had to leave a piece(yes a burger that beat me) I ordered dessert to go(gotta keep my title) I ordered their Fruits in a Bowl(or to-go container). It remained well-packed when I got home and enjoyed the fresh berries and macaroons. Between the service and food, it was very much worth the drive!

Outstanding food. We got the baked oysters, NOLA style, to start. Delicious but they only give you 3, so not ideal for sharing. We split the fried chicken sandwich and the Korean BBQ pork belly tacos. One of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. And those fries! The pork belly was so tender and all the ingredients were so fresh. Next time I fly into or out of West Palm I’m making a special trip to this place to try more of their menu. Service was great. My only complaint is they don’t really have a lot of draft options for calling themselves a gastropub. I think I counted 6 or 7. One or two of those are rotating taps at least. Metered street parking or else you can park in the garage. Max price in the garage is $ 5.

While in WPB for the weekend, we turned to Unilocal to find some good places for a bite to eat and it did not let us down. We decided to try this gastro bar on the busy street of Climatis after reading some good reviews. Parking was not easy, but we finally found a parking garage a few blocks away. Once we arrived, we were happy to find a cool, trendy bar with a relaxed atmosphere. The bartender, Dan, greeted us immediately and informed us that happy hour specials were almost over. He hurried to get our first round of drinks in before HH was over. I believe it was almost 7pm and well drinks and house wines were half off. We noticed that by the bar there were small buckets of bacon. We were puzzled … until Dan told us we are welcomed to have some of the bacon because it is there for everyone’s enjoyment. So yes, bacon lovers! They give you bacon instead of peanuts in this bar. Everyone was friendly and attentive. We were entertained by watching the bartenders make craft cocktails. A lady bartender(I think her name is Summer) worked hard by the service bar making a ton of drinks(it was a busy Saturday night). We had a chance to interact with her and she was also very nice to us. I will make sure to try some of their libations on my next visit. We ordered some bites: spicy lamb sliders(12 $) and Lousiana spicy wings(8 $). Sliders were well prepared and perfectly seasoned. We had a little problem with our wings, but it was corrected immediately by Dan and the chef, who came out of the kitchen personally to deliver a new order of hot wings. The wings were very spicy and delicious. Superb service! Will definitely come back when I’m in town and recommend this place to anyone looking for a chill place to have a nice experience.

My girlfriend and I had gone to West Palm Beach for a convention and we decided to try something local. We landed at the Alchemist Gastropub with a little help from Unilocal. The restaurant was a little slow at the time but it was probably because it was 3PM and it was raining pretty hard. I knew I needed a drink and I was at the right place. The alchemist is known for its crafty drinks and mixologists. TIP: Sit at the bar and you will get complimentary bacon strips and fried pork skins in lieu of bar nuts. Every cocktail on the menu sets you back from $ 12 to $ 14 dollars so I wanted to make sure I picked out something good. With a little guidance from our server, I got«The Gold Fashioned». Mitchers US1 bourbon, orange peel, brandied cherry, honey syrup, scotch mist, and strips of bacon. YES, Bacon in my drink! Simple, yet elegant, one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a long time. We ordered one of their signature appetizers, the Sausage Platter. A selection of housemade sausage served with balsamic onions, whole grain mustard, cornichons & pickled vegetables served on a wooden board. The sausages were very juicy, full of flavor and were complimented really well with the garnishes. My mouth is watering just thinking about. After an amazing appetizer, I went out of my comfort zone and ordered the The Alchemist Burger.(from the menu: cheddar, stuffed pork burger, topped with pork belly, cracklings, baby kale & chipotle ketchup). As much as I want to say I loved it, I did not. I was feeling adventurous and I ordered items I usually do not enjoy like pork belly and pork skins. This was probably my fault, but I can assure you the burger was cooked perfect with lots of care and craftsmanship. If you like pork, get this for sure! The side of truffle fries were to die for, and the melted cheddar from the burger got on some of the fries which was a nice treat! At the end of the day, I would recommend my friends and family to come here. Great atmosphere, great service from our servers, great food, and great drinks. I would like to suggest ordering a steak since that is what they specialize in.

I met my friend Tara here for brunch. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside to people watch. They brought humus and pita to the table. They have a unique menu(see pics). I tried the duck hash. It was a little salty and just ok nothing special. The truffle fries were seasoned very well. I wish they were a nicer fry and not a shoe string style. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place I would consider trying it again and pick something different. Side not on saturday there’s a green market on the east end of clematis that’s worth checking out. They have fresh coconuts that they’ll cut open for you to drink from. Fresh fish, flowers food etc
