Smokey J’s BBQ

Ok, so you see a BBQ place in Colorado with a decent number of reviews and a 5star rating.
You immediately start to rationalize it by saying, well it’s probably a local place and because it’s convenient they round up, or maybe they haven’t had ‘real’ BBQ…
Well you would be wasting your time, because Smoking J’s is easily the best retail BBQ joint I’ve had in Colorado, and stacks up to a lot of the Q I’ve had in Memphis and Texas
Jerry is extremely personable and is willing to make mods if possible.
The brisket was smoked perfectly as well as the pulled pork I sampled.
Great variety of sauces and sides as well, highly recommend.
Never in one spot long this is not a typical BBQ place, it could be in two different cities in one day, so be aware and enjoy!

Food truck + BBQ + dirt lot = AMAZING! You can’t beat this place. Great meat, way more affordable than the chain «bbq» places, and the amount of food is second to none. Where else will you get BBQ, side and a drink for under $ 10??? I had a pulled pork sandwich paired with the homemade green chili… they are great together. The sandwich was huge. I’m full, but I had so much meat the bun couldn’t hold anymore. More pork fell out of the sandwich than most places put on their sandwich… and I’m not even disappointed by this.

I came here today with a coworker and was amazed by how awesome the brisket was! I was originally not going to get anything but when we pulled up, I smelled that amazing BBQ, and got a look at their reasonable prices, I decided it had to happen. I got the mac n cheese and spicy beans. I tried my coworkers potato salad and it was BOMB, getting that next time.
All these 5 star reviews speak the truth, ignore Crys A. because she is a constant complainer, even when everything is perfect. Also ignore Tyler T, because who drives 20 minutes to a food truck? It has wheels, it is going to be in different locations from time to time, call ahead if you are going to make the trip.
This place has such a friendly owner, great food, room to sit, outstanding sauces, and amazing prices paired with enough that you won’t leave hungry. Highly recommend!

Is there an option for a sixth star?
So here’s the thing. I have been here three times now. Each of the three times, i have brought a different person with me, and have came away saying the same thing. This is quite possibly the best BBQ in Colorado. Now, you have to be willing to eat outside, possibly on the back of your truck bed or trunk of your car, and not care about how you are dressed. The second is because Smokey J’s is a truck, and is hanging out in a dirt parking lot. Having said that, my most recent excursion there was on a day that it was 44 degrees out and the ground was damp from rain… I regret nothing.
Now the real reason you are reading this review, their food! It’s perfect. Their brisket is both juicy and smokey, you immediately know that the cow you are eating sacrificed itself for a good cause. Their mac and cheese is a must order, you will be incomplete without it. Their Ribs are fall off the bone tender and seasoned in such a way you will wish all ribs were done this way. Their pulled pork is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. All in all, you won’t be even remotely disappointed you made spent the calories and money on this, and despite the fact they give incredibly generous portions for the price you pay (2 sides and 2 meats for $ 11. Nobody can dispute this to be a good deal) you will find that you have nothing left to take home despite saying to yourself «I think i’ll save some for later,» when you see how much you get.
Now, if you’re still reading at this point and haven’t already decided to eat here, I don’t know what else to tell you. Only that if you’re looking up BBQ in the Golden area, and you are having trouble deciding where to go since there are quite a few options… All other choices would be the wrong choice. Go to Smokey J’s!!! That is all.

Not open at 2:40 PM on a Friday when the website says they’re open until 6 PM. Drove all the way out from Denver to check this place out, very disappointed.

This is very good BBQ served out of a trailer and s couple out door tables. While the BBQ we had, pork and brisket were very good, the green chilie side dish was excellent. Nice and spicy. Sorry we are leaving town or we would certainly have returned. Friendly service from the owner. Great cornbread as well. At least three different choices of BBQ sauce.

Outstanding food and service. Just a caravan BBQ shack on the side of the road that outshines the bigger boys. Crackling on the pork, sides are a buck and the owner appreciates that you are there.

Smokey J’s BBQ food truck is the real-​deal for quick, authentic beef brisket in Denver. The brisket is juicy tender like your grandma’s roast beef on Sunday noon. Three BBQ sauces avail though this brisket doesn’t need it.
Added Mac and Cheese for $ 1 to live it up. Camp-​style real cheese and macaroni. Don’t pass this up if you like m&c.
All around great experience. Make the trip to this place.

After years of struggling to find some good BBQ in CO, I finally can put a stop to my search. Smokey J’s is on point with all the BBQ meats and offers a great selection of sauces. The ribs are smoked perfectly and are super tender. The Beef brisket is amazing and you can even see the solid smoke ring on the edge of the Beef. The sides were also quite tasty, some places only focus on the meat and forget about the sides, but not Smokey J’s!

I’ve been to Smokey J’s several times before writing this review. I can honestly say that this food truck has some of the best bbq I’ve ever had. As I write this review, I’m sitting here in Texas wondering why most of the bbq here can’t be half as good as the bbq at Jerry’s. Having been visiting Houston and Austin for the past six months, I can definitely say that Jerry’s brisket is to die for. With Austin being surrounded by food trucks, I can definitely say that none of them are as tasty as Jerry’s food truck sitting on the side of S. Golden Rd. During my time in Texas, I’ve also been judging bbq at different cook-​offs. Jerry could definitely take his brisket and compete with the best of them down here in Texas. If you’re looking for a good bbq meal, you’ll definitely find it at Jerry’s. Also, I have to say that Jerry is one of the friendliest guys you’ll meet. If you go to visit him a few times, he remembers you. That is always much appreciated.

The meat was decent but completely unseasoned and very bland. A little salt would go a really long way to improving this bbq. Even to just add a salt shaker at the table would be awesome.

This place is so good! I got the 2 meat/​2 sides combo ($ 11). As others said, generous portions indeed!
Ribs and Brisket were tender, great smokey flavor!
I ended up going with the Baked Beans and Potato Salad.
The baked beans were good, sweet and well cooked, nothing out of ordinary.
The Potato Salad was awesome. It had ham, and maybe chicken? I don’t know. I realized I ate it all before inspecting what was in it.
This place has won a spot in my weekly rotation of lunch spots.
And in case its not apparent from the pictures or other reviews, its a food trailer/​truck. They have some seating that they setup, but not a lot (12 people or so?). So just keep that in mind!

We stopped by one Saturday and he was about to close up. Lucky for us he took our order! We had a brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. Both were piled high and tasted fantastic! You have to try this place! I also ordered a side of potato salad, mmmmmmmmmm!

Make sure you wait a bit for the bread to soak up the brisket juices then your in heaven! BBQ J have pickles and 5 different sauces for your taste .
My favorite American sandwich place period. I recommend this place, call ahead and see if he is in. Call at 11 am or after he’ll answer or call back.

We went here for the firat time, and split the 2 meat/​2 sides meal, and the portion was very generous! The brisket and pork were super yummy and melted in your mouth. 3 different sauces from which to choose, and the tangy was our favorite. We will definitely return, a must in Golden!

Please do yourself a favor and try Jerry’s BBQ. Whether he is at the brewery or stationed on South Golden Road, if the truck is there STOP! By far the best BBQ in Golden, reasonably priced and friendly owner. I would highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich, it is enough for 2 meals.

I’m always on the hunt for great BBQ at a great price, and Smokey J’s satisfies both of those needs.
The meat is so tasty, $ 5 for a brisket sandwich and $ 1 for any additional sides. Everything is smoked to perfection, and he doesn’t try to screw you on portions either.
Also, just $ 10 for a pound of delicious brisket! Incontestably better than any nearby competition in price and quality, this is where you should go for BBQ in Golden.
Edit: tried the ribs today… they are so moist and tender, I didn’t even feel compelled to add BBQ sauce. So tasty.

Ran into this food truck last thursday while grabbing a beer at the Cannonball Creek Brewing CO.
What a surprise! I am a dry rub BBQ kind of gal, and was very happy to find out that Somkey J makes awesome dry rub ribs.
From now on, I will be a serious stalker of this food truck.

The ribs, just won me over. A huge helping of falling-​off-​the-​bone-​no-​bbq-​sauce-​necessary ribs. My heart was broken when I found out he was sold out of the brisket. A quick chat with J and we realized there’s no knowing when he’ll be there, when he’ll be completely sold out and gone home, or when one day brisket will be sold out in the blink of an eye, while the next day it’s the pulled pork that’s gone. No matter. Smokey J’s is magical. I find myself drooling as i pass by his spot in the morning on the way to work, wishing he was open so I can nab me some BBQ (for breakfast… that’s how good it is).

Growing up, working with my farther and his BBQ catering business in Indiana, I am very picky about my BBQ. Recently moved to CO and have had a difficult time finding a decent BBQ place.
Pulled pork sandwich is huge with very tender and juicy pork cooked and smoked with just the right amount. Tried the spicy sauce and it was very good as well.
If you are in the Golden area swing by and try them out, you won’t be disappointed.
