OK, I feel like I’m eating my way through the menu at Joe’s Place. I have had the hot dogs — they SNAP, the Eggplant Sausage Combo — absolutely DELISH, the Chicken Vesuvius Sandwich — nice and GARLICKY and today I had the Italian Sausage/Beef Combo/dipped w/sweet peppers — AMAZING, all washed down with Green River! I am going to have to limit my trips to this great neighborhood spot because so far everything I’ve had has been the best, plus the owner seems like a really nice person! Do yourself a favor and drop in!

Chicken Vesuvio sandwich… yummy but messy. Super garlicky. Very good. The eggplant parm with sausage was also very good and messy to eat too!!! I’d certainly come back here for fast food with an Italian twist.

Great gem to find. Truly authentic in taste and the staff is very personable. You won’t be disappointed.

Great little hot dog and sandwich joint in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It’s not much to look at, inside or out, but the food is wonderful. Hot dogs are snappy, just like they should be, and the fries are out of this world! But my favorite thing of the menu is the Chicken Vesuvio sandwich — a boneless breast slathered in a delicious garlic and white wine sauce that soaks into the Gonella roll, making it a great, big, messy pile of delicious! The people that work there are super nice and very accommodating, as well. Even for my son who has multiple food allergies. The only negative that I can bring up(aside from the décor and tight, cramped space inside), is that the food takes FOREVER to come out. It is to be expected, of course, as everything is homemade. But, it just seems like it takes extra long. Like, longer than it should. So, if you’re on a tight schedule or with an impatient crowd, you may want to come back another time But, do go. Because it is wonderful. Oh, one more tip: it’s CASHONLY.

Half full or Half empty? Tucked nicely into Westchester you can find this family owned restaurant. I think despite being billed as a hot dog store. They cater and have many items that are not just«hot dogs» I’m a little embarrassed that I lived about 9 blocks away from this place for 15 years and just now trying to this place out. Westchester Blvd isn’t exactly a busy street. Local traffic basically flows through here. If they were just a few blocks down on Roosevelt road this place would easily have 100+ reviews. The first time coming here I was able to eat my lunch outdoors which is something I rarely do. I had gotten the Italian beef/Sausage combo with regular dip and hot giardiniera and a small fry. Wasn’t sure what to expect. basically I only get beef from two places. Portillos and Buona. Well add Joe’s on the list. The beef was good and flavorful. The sausage didn’t exactly wow me but the flavor from the dip had a nice strong robust taste. Half way into my sandwich I had remembered that I did get fries and pulled them out the bag. Fries were delicious. basically home fries from a fast food joint but they had me licking my fingers. Had a nice crisp on the outside of the fry but not to overdone. Decided to try the Italian ice due to the many flavors it was only one other place that I knew that had that many flavors and was exited to try theirs. Was shown three different cup sizes and chose the small. Well was slightly disappointed with my grape Italian ice. Not because it wasn’t good(tasted like grape Nehi) but my cup came only filled a little over half. Why I didn’t say anything is beyond me. I was going to chalk this up to a fluke and give the Italian ice another try the next time I came in but turns out my Aunt had tried Joe’s and didn’t like it, but LOVED the Italian ice(Sour Apple) but hated they gave small portions. My Aunt told me all this before I even mention my own experience. All is not lost though they get their Italian Ice from Lezza Spumoni & Desserts right in Bellwood which basically explains the many flavors.(You might have to go to Elmhurst and get it as they expanding the store part over there soon) So for me personal I would just skip getting it here and as drake would say«I just go straight to who got it and buy it in cash.» On my 2nd trip I got my food to go and grabbed a meatball sandwich with hot peppers. Yummy — definitely homemade in the kitchen and not pre-packaged. Marinara sauce was tasty as well. Also got a large fry. Fries were a little more soggy and not as crisp and a noticeable amount more salt was added to fries this time.(although I think most things I made to order. this might have been left over fries from the lunch rush as I had gotten there a little after 1 pm)(mini update notice a sign that says you should tell them if you want fries under cooked or overcooked — odd but will be asking for slightly overcooked)(used credit card this time and they used square to process, so they do accept credit cards but might have a credit limit) Overall it’s a good place and will be coming here a lot more often as I’ve exhausted at eating at the same two local fast food joints I frequent.

My family and I went for a random walk in Westchester and came across this gem of a joint. In spite of shine of the reviews we found the staff to be courteous and the food to be almost perfect.

Rude staff who are unnecesarily mean to clients. Staff curses around children. I was followed out by owner who was yelling at me across the parking lot for the neighborhood to see.. angry because i opened a door to hand my daughter sitting on other side something. I didn’t know the screen door wasn’t to be opened because there were no signs and it lead in from the patio. I think anybody would have made that mistake that it was patio entrance. Embarrassing me and scolding me that I should ask permission first in front of my kids. Mind you it was right next to the main door which was open with no screen and my daughter was on the other side. I did not know but didn’t deserve to be treated so mean. I opened it an inch. It was scary and intimidating being yelled at and followed out through the parking lot almost to the street… with my children… infront of other residents(there were no other customers ironically it was empty at lunch). Its a shame because it could be a great place but with the food being soggy and not very good… microwaved my hot dog. .compared to other places close by they should have a more customer friendly approach. Very disappointed by the treatment i received and will encourage people to head elsewhere. Too bad. I like to support local businesses but I deserve to be treated with respect as a neighbor too. It was an honest mistake. Won’t miss the food though… it was just convenient but kids did complain theyd go there and the owner and employees would be cursing alot. Maybe not best for kids anyway.

Soggy fries and mystery meat«burger». As soon as I walked in and saw 4 young«employees» sitting in the tiny dining area gabbing, I didn’t have high hopes. Not much to choose from so I got the Italian steak burger and my partner got hotdogs. The burger, I’m not sure what I was eating. Like a cross between school lunc salisbury steak, spam ham, and beef highly processed with a bit of Italian seasoning thrown in. The hot dogs. They each came crammed with French fries inside. Huh? Who puts fries in a hot dog? On their menu it says«our fries are cooked well done so they’re crispy on the outside». I wonder if they know what crispy means. They were like fries boiled in water. A soggy greasy mess. I wouldn’t come back here even if it was free. Two stars only because the guy taking our order wasn’t an a-hole. :)

Not for me. You can drive less then 10 minutes and find 10+ places that have a better Italian beef /sausage combo.

I really only get the hot dogs here because they are so delicious. The fries are also very good, they put a nice coarse salt on them. Inside seating is small, they mostly do a carry out business, except in the summer, when they have outdoor seating. The owner and staff are friendly. It is cash only, so be prepared, although a sign indicates that there is an ATM next store.

Joe’s Place has the best hot dog’s, burgers and hand cut fries(but they have so much more). The Italian burger is AMAZING. The service at Joe’s is unlike any fast food/hot dog stand I have ever been to, someone(most cases the owner) will bring your food out to you and will come back and ask how it is and if you need more to drink. Most of the seating is outside, surrounded by a lovely residential area. Very comfortable and a nice place to have lunch during a work day.

Joe’s Place has the best hot dogs and fries around. I don’t go anywhere else when I want a hot dog. Love the steamed buns and the yellow yellow mustard and the green green relish. It is my favorite of all times. With Gene and Jude’s now #2. the service is outstanding and the staff is so friendly. They also have outdoor seating in the summertime so you can enjoy your hot dog and then get Italian lemonade. Also the chicken visuvio sandwichs are great. This business is a true asset to our wonderful town of Westchester. Make sure u introduce yourself to Frank the owner when u stop by. Yum now I want a hot dog. Looks like I will have to go get one.

I live down the block from Joe’s but I do not come here for convenience. They have really good food! I have tried their G&J like hot dogs and fries, corn dogs, and chili dogs. I just had a hot dog and fries last week and am craving another. Joe’s has expanded over time and I can only think that there are many fans because they went from almost a walk up stand to a small restaurant with seating inside and out.

I ordered a mess of chicken legs and fries. They tasted ok… but smelled like a petting zoo. Gonna steer clear of this place in the future…

Joe’s Place is a great place for a quick bite! Their dogs«snap»…just like Gene & Judes. Their beefs are full with just the right amount of spice. Only Pamela Kouimelis(Evillene) would write a scathing review about another resident/business owner from her neighborhood. The owner and staff are polite and a great asset to the area. so much for the neighborhood real estate agent. Keep up the good work at Joe’s Place!

i’ll keep this short and sweet. growing up in westchester, my bf came here ALL the time — he’s constantly raving about it! i have lived in westchester for over 3 years, and still never made it joe’s place — until last week. my sister was visiting me, and we had a craving for a hot dog. i decided to give joe’s place a try. BINGO, JACKPOT, YAHTZEE! all of the above. the hot dogs were great and the fries were OUTSTANDING. seriously. the best fries i’ve ever had. perfectly salted. perfectly crispy. perfectly amazing. i will go as far as to say that it’s better than gene & judes — and also a hell of a lot closer to my house. obsessed! we’ll be back! warning — cash only!

Three stars just because the customer service was fantastic. The food, however, was nasty at best. I ask for a chicago dog and I get a soggy half-Chicago dog.
