I came here with my boyfriend on Saturday afternoon. They have a nice beer and cocktail selection. We ordered 2 pretzels: jalapeño cheddar stuffed with bleu cheese dipper, and chipotle and smoked Gouda stuffed with spinach dipper. We also ordered sandwiches: meatball and bratwurst. Yum. Service was friendly even though they were slammed, and things were taking a little longer. Pretzels are so good. serious. I can’t wait to go back and try all of them. The menu is limited, but seems they do it all up proper. Great place with a great view in downtown Westerly.

This place is AMAZING. We love going weeknights for a beer and pretzel sandwich(im a vegetarian so I order the cannellini bean pretzel sandwich which is to die for and my fiancé orders a grilled cheese with bacon and chipotle mayo on the side). They have plenty of beers on tap. If you dont like beer they also have some great mixed drinks(I really like the margarito– a mix between a margarita and a mojito or the PopRocks which is a vodka drink with candy poprocks along the rim!) Their staff is AWESOME. Super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and they make everyone feel at home. They have THREE floors now for entertaining and you can also rent the bottom floor or top for private events at a reasonable rate. The owners definitely know what they’re doing here. Great food, great service, no ‘stuffy’ atmosphere. The malted barley is for everyone and anyone. There is no ‘scene’ like some of the other bars in town. I could bring my best friends for a great night out, or a grab some food for a laid back lunch meeting with co-workers, take my parents here, heck, even my grandparents.

I had a great turkey sandwich here, and a sampler of four beers. The Kentucky Bourbon Ale is definitely a new favorite. Brown Shugga, no thanks, ack. Anyway, liked this place a lot, would come back.(See my review on the Bridge re: someone buying my drink. Thanks again!)

Pretty Cool Place… We enjoyed the atmosphere and beer selection. Service was slow and it took forever for a pretzel. We’d go back for the beer selection

I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed The Malted Barley. With their recent expansion to the upstairs, that includes additional kitchen and prep area for them, its great to see that they are expanding the menu. They really try and keep a variety of beers on tap — so while the options can seem a little stale at times, there is always a a solid selection.

I don’t usually go this far from home but we wanted to visit grey sail and this is down the road. I’ve heard good things about this place and wanted to check it out. They have a huge craft beer selection. If you want it they have it. The staff is super knowledgeable and can help guide you in what to try. They offer tasting pours, regular pours, or large pours which is great to try a few different ones. Prices are reasonable too 2 – 4 $ for a sample. Three of us had samples and it was about $ 20. We wanted to try the pretzels but didn’t get a chance because it was so busy we knew it would have taken too long to get. No worries we will be back next week to try them. If your a craft beer lover this is surely a great place to try something new.

Definitely a 4.5 if there was one but I’ll round up for this one. Food is always warm and tasty. Only drawback it’s all pretzels, including pretzel sandwiches. No other appetizers to just bunch on while having a few brews with your friends. The atmosphere is great. It does get packed on the weekends, usually a live band. On offpeak times there are locals who are there just relaxing. A fair number of local microbrews on tap, I would guess about 20 or so beers on tap. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. Price is pretty fair for what you get. Definitely worth driving out to, to try their sandwiches if you’ve never been there. Been there about once a month since I moved to this area and I don’t go out too often.

Incredible service with great tasting pretzels of extensive variety. There is a phenomenal beer list(tap mostly but some bottles) and you can order samples, a pint, or a barrel! I opted for a flight of four beers, all local, and then a pint of my favorite. The pretzel we ordered was a jalapeño with Gouda and apricot butter!!! Wow! We also split a roast beef sandwich on a pretzel bun… amazing! Very fun atmosphere with plenty of seating upstairs, downstairs, and out on the patio.

Malted Barley is an awesome place to grab food and beer! With a countless number of beers available and constantly changing microbrews, you will always have top-notch selection to choose from. Their pretzels and pretzel roll sandwiches are unique and tasty. With a large variety of dipping sauces, they again deliver a wide range of choices for appetizers and entrées. They also have a downstairs dining area that can be reserved for private parties. Having appetizers immediately available for guests and beer readily available, you can focus on your meeting and socializing without having to wait for individual service. I am a huge fan of Malted Barley and they are committed to a great atmosphere, customer service, and amazing beer and food. ENJOY!

I honestly love the Barley, the Pretzel BLTs are so good. They have many different types of craft beers, friendly staff, FOOZEBALL(which is definitely not the devil), and a killer outdoor patio outside. Get the banana beer on draft. Sometimes they have live music, lovely place to unwind after a long day of work!

The Malted Barley keeps it simple, but you’ll definitely what you’re looking for here be it food or drink! First off, their beer selection is very wide and very good! I’m a fledgling beer drinker and a little picky, but even I was able to find a beer I liked(mm banana bread beer…). On the other side of things, my boyfriend loves beer and had a hard time narrowing down all the beers he wanted to try! We loved their featuring of local Rhode Island breweries alongside their other choices. Secondly, let me start on their food choices. Pretzels. Pretzels galore. The soft wonderful kind that makes you happy. So many kinds! So many sauces! I wanted to have them all. And after eating two of their pretzels, I could have devoured more but I checked myself. We also got one of their pretzel sandwiches: the bratwurst sandwich. The pretzel as the bread was perfect and chewy. The brats were conveniently sliced to lie flat on them. Mmmf! I could keep coming back here. If only I lived in Westerly.

My husband loves telling the story of how when we met, that the only beer I’d drink was Hefeweizen or other similarly mild wheat beers. He taught me about beer, I taught him about wine, and we both learned about beverages we never knew we loved. That is when my adoration of sour beers emerged, and my appreciation for the variety of other brews. Since then, we have set our sights on brewpubs and tasting rooms to continue finding new favorites. While spending the day in Westerly, we walked around the downtown and perused all the shops looking for a bite. We bypassed sushi, an Irish pub with heavy sounding food, and some slightly too good for you food stores, when we settled on the carb heavily delicious Malted Barley. The interior is hip and inviting, with ample seating at the bar as well as in the dining areas. We opted to start with a flight of samples, because the beer on tap menu is HUGE and everything sounded amazing. I was super pleased to see they had a sour, a goze, and many ciders for those like me with off the beaten path tastes for their cold brews. My favorites were Mo by Maine Brewing company which was tropical and smooth, like a glass of Hawaii, and the Gran Cru sour, which may very well have taken first place in my book for best sour ever. My husband tried an entire flight of APA’s, and was delighted with many of them. For food, we started with Chipotle pepper and Smoked Gouda pretzel($ 5) with the spicy beer mustard, which was very flavorful but a little overwhelmed by the smokiness and could barely taste the creamy gouda. Lunch was the Roast Beef Sandwitch($ 8), to which I added the optional Parmesan and Asiago crust($ 1 extra), and it was absolutely amazing. The flavors were perfectly matched with the savory meat, tangy slaw, creamy garlic aioli, and salty cheese crust. Husband had the Turkey and Havarti($ 8) with an Everything crust($ 1 extra), and he liked it but thought it needed a bit more sauce or salt to bring out all the flavors. We agreed mine was the winner and would absolutely order it again. We had a great time with the barkeeper talking about the local wine and brew scene, and about where to find our new favorite selections from our flight. We did end up going to the local liquor store and buying some Gran Cru to take home because we enjoyed it so much. Also available are mini kegs for purchase instead of growlers, which are novel and very cute(much better looking for repeated use than a glass growler). Will include this on our return trip to Westerly for its friendly service, incredibly diverse selection, and great food pairings.

I work for a company in Westerly, but I live in Houston TX. At least one trip to MB is always the highlight of my trips to the home office. Space for couples, space for big groups, indoors and out. The beer list is stunning, the pretzels are delicious and the staff don’t have that craft beer arrogance you find in so many places these decades. Love it.

Fantastic beer selection and delicious pretzel sandwiches. .. that pretty much sums it up. We had heard many good things about this place and decided to stop in for lunch on a Saturday, we were planning on hitting up some breweries in the area so this made for an excellent starting point. So many beers to chose from, just get a flight and try a variety of different ones. The menu is a little limited and it does take a a little while for your food to arrive, but it’s really worth the wait. You can’t be upset because their pretzels being made to order.. . that’s pretty damn fresh! The staff was very friendly and attentive and the place is very relaxed. I also loved that even though the main focus of this establishment is beer related it is also very family friendly. There were a number of 30-something parents there having lunch with their young children. I even noticed that they provided crayons and placemats with pretzels on them to entertain the kiddos. I’m sure the atmosphere might be more bar like in the evening but I thought it was very cool that the place was a good mix of hip watering hole and somewhere you can bring your kids to. We were fans and will be back the next time we are down that way.

Pretty good place but too many of the good beers were unavailable on a Sunday which isn’t wonderful after driving 45 minutes, but it happens. Food was pretty damn tasty and would love a burger added to the menu. Burgers on pretzel buns anywhere else are always«meh» but this place would kill it! Felt bad for the waitresses who have to run up and down the stairs. Makes it difficult to attend to all their tables in a timely manner and so many people aren’t understanding about that, and I hope those people don’t take it out on their tips. They did a great job for being what seemed like the only two waitresses and that goes for the bartender as well.

I don’t know why I don’t make the 40 minute trek down to westerly more often but every time I visit in reminded of how much I love it. After a trip to close by Jonathan Edwards Winery, we ended up at the Malted Barley after a sincere recommendation from one of the vineyard’s staff. Its signage isn’t as pronounced as the yoga studio’s above but when you find it, totally worth the search. The bar has a fantastic selection of both local and hard to find beers on draft and all they serve are pretzels or a variation of. Don’t let that fool you, they are AWESOME. I’m always a sincere fan of a place that does one thing and does it well and the Malted Barley knows how to do pretzels. The cheddar and jalapeño stuffed pretzel with a side of honey mustard was out of control good. I actually wished to myself that this place was closer to my home and I guess ask and you shall receive. The bartender let us know that they have plans to expand to the Providence area. I can’t wait to welcome them!

I’ve only been here a couple of times since attending school in RI, but every time I’ve gone to the Barley I’ve been welcomed with a great selection of craft beer on tap and warm homemade pretzels. The prices are fair and the staff is very friendly. On Saturday nights there is a good mix of people and they have some good music playing. I’ve been here on nights with live music and nights of a DJ. On my most recent trip, I finally tried one of their well-known pretzels. I got an everything pretzel with apricot butter. It was soft and fresh out of the oven. I have heard that their sandwiches are very good from my friend who lives in town, so I will have to try for a lunch when I’m in town again. The Barley is a great place to grab a drink and Saturday evening snack!
