If you are a Star Trek fan then this the place for you. If you’re like me and not a huge Star Trek fan, you probably won’t find much to whet your whistle here. That said, it is a neat little store. Clearly it is heavily weighted towards Star Trek but you can find some stuff for other sci-fi series. I found some Doctor Who stuff and had a good giggle at some Star Wars stuff from the three movies that shall not be named. Like the last reviewer mentioned, the store seems to be in trouble. There is still a bucket for donations to keep the store open and their(outdated) website says that the owner is retiring at the end of the year and the future of the store is up in the air. If you’re a Trekkie, you might want to wander over here sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately it’s clear that this place is on its last limb. All of the signs in the shop say it’s closing Dec. of 2016 but I’ll be surprised if it stays open that long. While I know it has been around for many years, it doesn’t seem like they’re really trying to do anything to stay relevant. The selection is less than average for a place that claims to be a specialty store — mostly Star Trek(obviously), some Buffy, minimal Harry Potter, and Doctor Who. The environment is not particularly inviting. There was no music and the one employee was very nice but made us somewhat uncomfortable by following us closely the entire time we browsed. The website clearly hasn’t been updated recently as the selection is very bare bones compared to the pictures online — We were able to look closely at everything in the entire store within less than 10 minutes. Overall it was all items that I could find at Big Fun but at a higher price, with less selection, and in a less fun environment. I was really hoping to like this place but I was just left disappointed with the weak selection.

If you are into Sci-Fi then you have probably already been to Star Base. If you aren’t, Star Base Columbus is a social experiment worth taking without going to a galaxy far, far away. I happen to have a little brother who is terrified of the X-Files. While the entire world was caught up in the love triangle of Scully, Mulder, and aliens, my brother was cowering in his room. Naturally for Christmas I decided to buy him something from the show as an amusing gag gift. Not generally sold in stores I trucked to Star Base to find some X-Files paraphernalia. The store is inside an old house. Its like somebody went a little overboard in their collecting and kicked their parents out to set up shop. You like Dungeons and Dragons? They got it. Still sad that the Enterprise is grounded? It still flies here. Maybe you have the hots for Starbuck the character, not the coffee? You can be served here. Basically anything science fiction related is at Star Base waiting for you to buy. I found a Mulder and Scully badge that will continue my brother’s nightmares for years to come. The staff are super nice and almost too knowledgeable. Don’t try to talk about a sci-fi topic unless you have brought your A-game. They are going to know more about it than you ever knew. I really enjoyed my trip to Star Base. You know that I have to end this by saying it was«out of this world».

Embrace your inner geek and head out to Star Base Columbus. If it’s a licensed Star Trek, Star Wars, or fantasy item, they probably have it. From phasers to Harry Potter wands they’ve got ‘em. I can write this review because I already have a significant other who’s seen my Star Trek toy collection.
