I came here with my boyfriend for his birthday and we were pleasantly surprised :) We basically got omakase and tried everything the chef suggested. My boyfriend loved the Scottish Salmon. I really loved the toro. I have never tasted toro as buttery as the one here. It literally melted in my mouth… I had a total of three pieces. I wanted more but it’s so expensive! The chef gave us a discount because it was our first time there AND my boyfriends bday! He gave it to us for 2 pieces for $ 10 instead of $ 15. I can eat all the toro all night long. But, other than that, I would also suggest the blue fin, house made egg and snow crab hand roll. Everything is super fresh and crazy good! I can’t wait to come back in February when there’s LIVE sweet shrimp!

Food was just fair. Asked for a 911 roll. Got a spicy tuna roll with Sriracha sauce straight out of the bottle on top of the roll. Awful! My wife couldn’t finish it. Complained. No excuses. Just giggles! Won’t go back!

This is easily one of the best places for sushi. Incredibly fresh every time I’ve been there no matter what day or time. You just can’t find live shrimp or live scallop anywhere. The Uni is to die for and you can be certain Takahashi won’t serve it unless it’s perfect. Sit back and enjoy, let your chef choose for you. The Scottish salmon is sweet, delicate and melts in your mouth. The fish is so amazing that you probably won’t even need soy sauce. It’s truly a culinary experience. Came here the other night with my boyfriend and loved it! The owners are great and really personable, and the fish was really fresh. Prices are reasonable as well.

The one and ONLY sushi place I will go to in the area. Always chill, upbeat music playing, clean. The owners are very personable and funny. The salmon, albacore and eel avocado roll are my all time favorite, but there are many other amazing choices. Fish is always fresh. I love that since I have become a regular they always know what I want. WINNING!!! The prices are pretty fair as well. You don’t want cheap priced sushi. That’s usually not a good sign. Definitely recommend this place to anyone going to be in the area and wanting some GOOD sushi.

I just left Takahashi and I cannot get the bad taste out of my mouth. The whole experience was bad and the first indication for me should’ve been the fact that it was basically empty at 6:00pm, three days before Christmas. Most places around here are packed and have a wait. The yellowtail was so bad I couldn’t even shallow it. The smelt eggs were actually flying fish eggs which have a much stronger taste and I do not like. Scallop hand roll tasted like old, smelly scallops and the salmon, although edible, was not better than you could buy at whole foods. Honestly, nothing was even close to good. I don’t know if they save the good/fresh fish for their favorite customers or what the deal is with all these good Unilocal.I’ve been eating sushi for literally 30 years. I made it at home before we had all the restaurant choices so I know the difference between good and bad. Actually, I think everyone knows what bad fish tastes like — it’s pretty obvious(it tastes like Takahashi’s sushi). In addition feeling ill from having just ate a terrible meal, I’m now out $ 46. Yeah, I know, it sucks.

This review is based on taste, food selection and price. The menu is not good at all there are like no good rolls super basic like California roll and shrimp tempura they should spice that up. I paid $ 20.00 for one California roll(6 pcs) and a Chris roll(5pcs) the pricing is ridiculous for the quality you get here. The taste was not that great in my opinion. Pricing and menu needs to be updated here in order to compete with the other sushi spots in town.

We were happy to find a Japanese restaurant with high Unilocal ratings, but unfortunately the food did not match up. Beef sukiyaki was mostly onions, some chunks(not think slices) of beef(cut more for stirfry), no mushrooms, soupy sauce with no flavor. Tempura batter was heavy and somewhat thick, no grated daikon in the sauce, and an odd spaghetti noodle /mayo salad(in addition to potato salad). Sushi was ok but not wow. Waitress was nice — chinese I think, and chatty.

This is an incredible sushi joint. The owners are a couple and they are a hoot to hang out with. This is one of the few places I have found that has both Santa Barbara and Japanese uni available. Also one of the few places that serves fresh ankimo rather than processed, pre-packaged ankimo. I highly recommend this place.

Sashimi was ok, didn’t taste very fresh. Tempura is served hot but batter is on the heavy side. Very reasonable price.

Best sushi in town! I had been searching for good sushi ever since I moved to the Conejos area four years ago. I tried countless sushi restaurants and felt very fortunate to have stumpled upon this cute little mom/pap sushi restaurant. The fish here is super fresh, as Alan the owner will go to LA fish market everyday to hand pick good quality fish. The salmon sashimi and toros just melt in your mouth. They also have make to order live Santa Barbara sweet shrimps when they are in season. My favorites are salmon hand roll, halibut nigiri and Barbara roll(with real crab). The service here is also impeccable. Alan’s wife and daughter work as waitresses there and you feel like you are being treated in a cozy family environment there. Though this place can be a little pricey(expect $ 100 per person), but it is definitely worth every penny for the quality of sushi you are getting.

I stopped here for lunch the other day when I was in the neighborhood, hungry, and interested in trying a place I hadn’t been before. Takahashi is a small restaurant with seating at the sushi bar or at small tables. I got a table and the woman(one of the owners?) took my order promptly. Their menu is not extensive, but has the basics, and then some more specialized rolls and a wider variety of sushi. Not a sushi fan myself, I ordered a sunomono(cucumber salad) which only came with seafood as an option, no plain version on the menu, and some ebi over rice. My server asked if I wanted live shrimp, and I said no, cooked. I’m not sure how live their live shrimp is but that’s on their menu board. Live shrimp. Hm. The sunomono was essentially on their entrée salad list and so when it arrived I was surprised at how small it was. A medium sized(for Japan) bowl with a small amount of cucumber slices in a vinegar sauce and four shrimp on top. It tasted nice, but for the price, I would have rather had a large salad without the seafood. I felt like I was buying four shrimp with a little additional vegetables when it was the cucumbers I ultimately wanted. My ebi shrimp order was incorrect when it first came out. I’d ordered without wasabi(not knowing if it had wasabi or not) and it came out with wasabi between the shrimp and the rice it sat on top of. Thankfully I checked before putting a piece into my mouth as I can’t to spicy things. I returned it, but the chef seemed put out by having to remake it. It made me feel bad and I’m not sure I’ll return again. It’s a little out of the way and it was just not fantastic enough of an experience for the final bill price.

WOW!!! FRESHFRESHFRESH If you like sushi, this is a must try! Not a big fancy chain restaurant with loud music and lots of TV’s blaring. This is a really nice Japanese restaurant with great fresh fish that is picked up daily from the fish market. Get the chef choices! Owner is Hiro and he will make you up some of the best Salmon, YellowTail, Albacore, Spanish Mackerel, and even raw shrimp that is so fresh that it is still moving! LOL Awesome! He will even fry up the heads for you to eat! Tasty! My wife got the Chilean Sea Bass and Fresh Lobster roll, Awesome! I’ve been coming here for many years and love this place. Go on Mondays, you will have the place to yourself.

Horrible! My friend and I got food poisoning from here. And his wife was to pushy with trying to get me to finish my meal! Worst sushi place I have EVER been too! Def not fresh!

Stopped by this night early for obento(dinner) to go. Was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, have not been feeling well, so I had to abstain from the sushi, but I’m ok with the price for what I got in the obento. First: a LOT of beef teriyaki. I’m stuffed. Satisfied that I got my money’s worth. Very well seasoned, not super salty, but sitting in extra juices! And lightly grilled the way it’s supposed to be, nothing burnt, very lean(hardly a sliver of fat). Second: came with sides of rice, miso, and salad. Loved the full course meal. Salad was a little bit plain, but no wilted lettuce and dressing was not overly watery, and miso was not overly salty, so I think it all balanced out. The rice was the fluffiest freshest rice I’ve had on the side of an obento in a long time. Third: came with deliciously fun pickled radishes? They were cut into nice ½ sq in — or so — pieces. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Whitish, pickled tasting??? Location — very quaint, hidden in North Ranch Mall shopping plaza. Nearby Trader Joe’s and Pinkberry. Parking always varies by day and time. Inside — super clean and pristinely decorated. Nothing crazy, or over-the-top stereotyping. There are about 8 tables, with 24-person setups.(Had 10 minutes to observe while waiting!) Lovely polished bar. The owner/husband is sushi chef? The woman who greeted me, I’m pretty sure was the owner/wife. She was very personable. And knew immediately that I wanted the beef teriyaki obento when I just got out the words beef teriyaki. Loved it! Will be back for the sushi when I’m feeling better.(Gotta keep in mind those tricky hours…)

This is the best sushi restaurant I’ve been to in LA, wow… Yamata and Linda are an amazing team! I understand why they have so many regulars! The fish comes from Spain and Canada, cold water! We had the Kumamoto oysters, the flavors were incredible and also they were not so tiny like at other places… The live scallops the best with Yuzu and he has a great touch and an amazing personality. According to Virginia M. «food no good, no pay». The owners are very personable, way too much fun and so they made our evening! We were than headed off to an amazing high school choir performance which was truly touching and memorable. The lobster roll is made directly from a whole lobster and it was absolutely delicious, I got three pieces and my friend got Two. I can’t wait to return…
