Just moved to the area and saw their signs with balloons for 99 cent hot dogs. I asked for two hot dogs PLAIN, a cheeseburger Plain and a large fry. Got home, hot dog had everything on it. I tried to wipe off as much as I could but it was bad. Hot dog tasted funny. My Husband took one bite of his burger and said it was horrible. The only good thing about this place was the fries. Most of my disgust comes from not getting my order correct. They were not busy and the cashier was not friendly. I wont go here again.

Love the steak tacos. Best I’ve found in Westmont. Cheap hot dogs as well. Get there early to avoid the lunch wait.

The hot dog was crunchy with a good meat and spicey taste. It was not a Vienna, Kosher or any famous brand. The toppings were sparse. The pickle was cut into a very thin slice. It was so thin it made no difference it was there. The bun was nice and steamed. The bun was the defacto standard in buns. I also had the french fries. They were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This was not the greatest hot dog, but it was only 99 cents. It was a very good hot dog and I will return when I’m in the mood for a hot dog.

I have been going to Maxwell’s Red Hots for the past two years, every time i have to do business in nearby Clarendon Hills. $ 0.99 dogs, all beef, Chicago Red Hot brand! It was heaven! Notice I said WAS. The last couple of times I went, I was thoroughly disappointed. The firm, juicy dog I was use to biting into is now a bland, soft and mushy dog comparable to what you get out of a package of Aldi hot dogs. I noticed the Chicago Red Hot signs are no longer on display. They changed their brand of hot dog, and it is horrible. I pray they come to their senses, raise prices if you have to, but serve a decent dog! Please, I’m begging!

If you want a decent Chicago style hot dog for $ 1 each and don’t care about ambiance, friendly waitstaff, having a place to sit or a thousand menu choices, this is your joint. An oddly surprising amount of mexican food offererings on the menu but whatev… I came for the 99 cent Chicago dog and that’s what I’ll keep coming back for.

I just recently stopped by for beef for the first time for me and my lady. We both got the red sauce, i added hot peppers my lady sweet peppers. Very happy with the beefs. We usually stop by for the hot dogs(.99 cents) and fresh cut fry’s.They have fast and convenient service. Wanna go back and and try other menu items but will always get a hot dog with that.

I’ve only had the hot dogs and fries. The hot dogs are unbeatable for $.99. They are similar to Vienna or Chicago Red hot. The toppings are fresh and nicely put together. Their fries are fresh cut and have the skins still attached. The jumbo fry is over $ 3BUT its enough for 3 – 4 people. Its essentially an entire frier basket full of fries. Quick frendly service.

I haven’t gone in there in a few years. I remembered the fries being really good. I am not much of a hot dog person so I went for a grilled chicken sandwich and it was super yummy and of course I got Fries. If you are looking for this sort of food you won’t be disappointed.

Food was excellent, huge Polish, huge fries. A little pricey, but you get your money’s worth. Not the friendliest employees though, a little rude.

Been coming here on and off for years now. I haven’t had their beef in a while so I went with that. The red sauce they had was incredible. I forgot how great this little goldmine is. It has that small local diner feel inside as well. The owner I assume, was very nice as well.

It’s alright. Not the best, by far, but for a 99 cent Chicago-style(almost, no poppy seed bun!) not a terrible hot dog. The Italian beef, however, is pitiful. Bland lunch-meatish thin-sliced, little au jus and horrible crunchy sweet peppers. Really bad. Stick to the dogs and for the price it isn’t bad. Probably won’t go back.

This place used to be good but I went there tonight and the only thing worse than the sub-par food was the fact that the woman who was working there had her 2 children there who kept screaming for her and running around with no shoes on. Then they were runninh around behind the counter right next to the grills. I’m all for a family run restaurant but I can’t even imagine how many health codes they broke in my 25 minutes there. I would say that the .99 cents for a hot dog would be worth all of that but its not. The hot dog itself was floppy and had a weird texture. The toppings were sour tasting and even after scraping them off I still couldn’t finish the hot dog. I don’t know what happened when they switched management but I don’t think its working for them.

Maxwell’s Red Hots is a small and unassuming hot dog joint located in the corner of a shopping center on the Northwest corner of 63rd Street and Cass avenue in Westmont. Upon walking in you’ll see a few stools to sit down on and eat your meal. In visiting Maxwell’s I decided to try the Red Hot/Hot Dog. The hot dog I received came on a regular, non-poppy seed bun. The bun was a bit on the dry side with some cracking at the top of the bun. The pickle included was thin and flavorful, I asked for celery salt which was visibly applied and noticeable. The application of mustard and relish was fine and the onions were well cut to give the dog a good overall balance. The sport peppers included were tasty and complimented the dog nicely. Now, here’s what unique about this hot dog, the sausage itself. This was a significantly spicier than normal wiener for a Chicago style hot dog. It was skinless and I did notice Vienna Beef signage in this place, but this is not your typical Vienna Beef dog. The overall combination was an excellent and unique change of pace from the many similar tasting hot dogs I’ve had. Overall I really liked my hot dog at Maxwell’s red hots, if my bun weren’t dry I’d probably have given this five stars. As far as representing what a Chicago style hot dog is, this is probably not a particularly great example as it tastes quite a bit different. However, as a strange hybrid of a hot dog and a spicy sausage this is an excellent hot dog to try. I will definitely visit again, and I sincerely recommend trying it out for Chicago-land dog aficionados as it’s a place that definitely has a unique tasting Chicago style hot dog that I’ve not found the like of elsewhere.

Despite the run-down, beaten interior, this place is still serving up some of the best hot dogs. Don’t come here expecting a gourmet meal, but if you’re craving a Chicago style hot dog this is your place. I literally grew up 3 mins from this place and have been going here since I was a little girl. Although the fries are not cripsy like my favorite usually are, I actually like the mushy, greasy fries. The hot dogs are always hot and the chili dogs are delicious!

I enjoy dropping in here once in a while and having a few favorites. 1st is the Italian Beef. A generous portion of tasty thinly-sliced beef is slathered on a fresh piece of French bread. You can have cheese, hot or sweet peppers, or condiments on your sandwich. Unfortunately they are all extra. Next is the Polish sausage. Don’t get it on a hot dog bun, rather opt for the French bread. This has to be the largest, tastiest Polish sausage I’ve had from a hot dog joint. Last is the Gyros. Since I am allergic to onions and lactose I get just the Gyro meat on toasted piece of Pita bread. They generously pile on the meat making it a meal in and of itself. I find the staff(those who speak English) friendly, and very accommodating. Since I an so allergic to onions they always thoroughly clean the griddle for me so that no residual onion juice spoils my selection. They are somewhat pricey for a hot dog joint, but I am never disappointed dining there.

I grew up around here, and used to swear by this place. Now, management/ownership has changed, and its a bit meh. — The Chicago-style hotdogs were still cheap with the fries smushed in, but the fries were not crispy at all and super oily — The gyro was dry and oily too. I know this is an odd complaint, but there was just way too much meat! It overflowed and made the pita soggy. I was quite sad to see the downfall of this place, but hope to give it a second chance next time I’m in the hood. It is a great corner stand.

This place was OK. A hot dog with everything is only $ 1.50, so you really can’t complain. I agree with the other reviewer about the fries, too. They were great. Not the best hot dog I’ve had in Chicago, but not the worst and certainly the cheapest. Service was friendly, as well.

This is the kind of hot dog joint that you’ll find in strip malls all around chicago. I’ve been pleased with the food I’ve had there. The Chicago-style hot dogs(obviously) are perfectly respectable, though not worth driving past your closest Portillo’s to reach. My favorite item on their menu is the french fries. These are cut on-site from fresh potatoes and prepared using the two-time frying method. Yum.
