The food tasted average, but as of eating it my boyfriend has now been in the hospital for going on two weeks, and the doctors have determined he picked up some sort of fungal infection from their food.

Great value! The 99 cent Chicago Style Hot Dog was as good or better than most of the other hot dog stops in the area for a fraction of the price. Burgers are killer(for the price) as well. Don’t know how the Burger King next door stays in business!

Went here for my first time yesterday. My son ordered a steak burrito, I got a gyro, and spicy fried pickles. First of all the wait for the food was very unexpected. We waited around 15 mins! The pickles tasted horrible, they tasted rancid or spoiled, in the garbage they went. Then my son found a big black hair in his burrito. He was so hungry so he kept eating… finding another big black hair! Into the garbage! My gyro was just ok, the onions were very tough and the tomatoes tasted old, and the meat was so-so. I did call to inform them about the hairs, the girl apologized and offered a free burrito next time. I declined because I will never go back there. Waste of time and waste of money.

Bought the hot dog special with fry yesterday. It tasted great, but I was sick the rest of the day. Not sure why… but it was clearly from the lunch! I do remember when this place was Nick’s… the food was much better. Not sure if I will return. Too many other places in the area to pick from.

Their Daily Specials are hard to beat! Gyros on Mondays and Polish Sausage on Wednesdays are my Favorites! Very good fries. Soda refills with the Specials when their machine is operating. The Pork Chops are also very good too. If you order the Polish, they will make it Chicago Hot Dog Style which is my preference. I tell them to dress it like a Dog every time. Prices are reasonable and service is good, no rest rooms, only six stools in the inside for dining, but many chairs outside with tables. Not fancy but functional. I was hoping they were going to do Breakfast, but those items are now covered up.

I went in here at midnight on Saturday and got the best cheese burger. Def better than the usual mc d’s. The outdoor dining is cleaner then the indoors! I feel this place needs to be cleaned up a little apart from that foods good, price is very cheap. A good place to grab a bite. Do not try the cheese pizza if you love your teeth!

Solid double cheese burger oozing with… well…cheese. Got it with grilled onions, which were super sweet and tomato, lettuce and mayo. The order comes with fries, which I got well done. Burger was juicy, tasty and perfect for me. Fries were okay. I’d definitely come back if I had a hankering for a cheesy cheeseburger. Oh. The price was reasonable too. Less than 5 bucks. But no drink. They don’t offer unsweetened iced tea.

Ordered food for delivery from this place on a Sunday early evening. First bad sign was that the delivery driver got lost and then argued with me on the phone when I was trying to give him directions. I know where I live! Food arrived, and the GFs rib tips had almost no sauce on them, even though we requested BBQ, and looked to be a bit discolored. She said they tasted OK, but not great. I ordered a hot dog and a grilled chicken salad. My hot dog was DISGUSTING. As another reviewer noted, the bun I received was stale to the point of being hard and inedible. How you can work in a restaurant, touch that bun, and think it’s OK to send out to a customer is beyond me. My salad was slightly better, but they only give you one very small plastic cup of dressing for a mid-large salad, which is weird. Would have given 0 stars if an option, and won’t be going back.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would… hotdog is disgusting and cold and there has to be ½ cup relish on it and the cheese for my cheese fries is lumpy. you’d be better off going to McDonald’s

Loved when it was Nick’s went after work got some slices of pizza they weren’t bad but not great. My boyfriend got a pizza puff and it was still raw and cold in the middle. Was hoping it would be good considering it’s so close to my house. Probably will not be going back.

Absolutely amazing hamburger; i would even rank it as a top 5 burger ive ever had. It reminded me of a cross between steak and shake/culvers with some white castle qualities to it(but without the horrible quality meat lol). The fries were absolutely horrible, no better than frozen ore rida fries. This place is called stax for a reason so i wouldn’t expect much from anything other than the burgers. Will go back for the burger without a doubt but stop by the local hot dog place on the way back for their fresh cut fries for the perfect meal. Pros: Awesome burger, top-notch homemade tasting bun, love how grilled onions are an automatic topping, Affordable Cons: Small burger patty(wouldn’t go any lower than a triple if u want to be full). Only have American cheese as an option. Fries couldn’t have been much worse

I have to admit, the burger was good. A little small, but tasty. The fries however… apparently they use the same oil to fry fish as they do for their french fries! YUCK! One fry is all I could keep down, it tasted like a fish stick, not exactly appetizing. It’s too bad they give fries with every burger, I would rather they didn’t, it seems a waste to throw them out. If you are looking for a tasty burger that is definitely different from any of the fast food joint, go ahead, give them a shot, just don’t say I didn’t warn you about the fries!

This place is not consistent and has poor quality food! Me and my family ordered polishes from here and the polishes were still frozen inside! Horrible… Called the manager she said they would do better next time! Do not waste your money!!!

Solid burger. Nice and cheesy! Got the trio with everything except mayo. Good flavor and good consistency. Haven’t had a pizza puff in a while, used to get them a lot in high school. Enjoyed the pizza puff. Could use a few more fries with the meal but overall good deal. I’d go back again.

I probably shouldn’t give them three stars, but the food I ordered is good. I am VERY disappointed in the amount of meat they put on my latest Italian beef sandwich. It was like 3 – 4 small slices, totally encumbered in a large piece of French bread. It was very tasty, but I was so disappointed, I called and spoke with a clerk who said that they put the same amount of beef that Portillo’s and Buona Beef use, and to that I say BALDERDASH! 4 oz? How about something I can taste, and consider it a meal? When it was Nick’s Pizza and Beef the food basically tasted the same(good) but Stax portions are skimpy. I will go back, and see what I get when I order«extra beef,» and what they charge me. I can always come back and do another review or revise this review. I have been a Unilocaler for many years, and have probably 50+ reviews, so I’m no slouch or consumer with no clue. I do love their Italian ice; probably one of the better items they offer for sale. Then again, they have hefty competition with Maxwell’s in the same lot, Papa Passero’s and Margie’s one block away, Buona one mile to the south, Phillie’s one mile to the east, and Portillo’s about 3 miles S/E.

I used to love this place when it was Nick’s and under different ownership. Even though it was a bit pricey, the portions were always generous and the food was good! This is my second experience at Stax. The first time wasn’t horrible; the food was better than average and the prices are low, but this time was a completely different story. If I could give this place zero stars, that’s what it would get. I asked for cheese fries and got a small sack of fries with NO cheese, even though the gentleman working confirmed by saying«so you want cheese with those?» I also got a hotdog. The hotdog itself was good, but unfortunately the bun that it was on was extremely stale. The bottom of it crumbled in my hands, which caused me to gag. I had to remove the bun in order to eat what I had paid for. I am so beyond disgusted that I will not be going back until«Stax» closes its doors and reopens as something else, as it has many times before. I’ll be counting the days until that happens, and with food this bad, it shouldn’t be long.

Been here a few times already since it’s opened. I like that it has a drive thru, but it is a very small place and small parking lot, so once you are there, it is hard to get out of. This place is where Nick’s used to be. It changed the sign and menu but has a lot of the same feel. I see they still have the same signs for the disgusting shake machine — so I would steer clear from any shake made here. The breakfast sandwiches are small, but good. Something you could easily make at home but with extra butter/grease. Good for on the go and when you don’t want to make anything yourself. Currently they have a 2 for $ 4 on breakfast sandwiches. Their hamburger is actually really good, but smaller than a burger than you would expect. The double was perfectly sized for me though, filled me up and I didn’t have anything leftover. I also tried their Guinness Brat, it was good to try but I wouldn’t order it again. I feel I can grill a much better brat than that. I would suggest a burger if you head here. I liked mine but I wouldn’t suggest any extra toppings. I ordered pulled pork as an extra topping on the burger, and it was so minuscule that I thought they forgot to put it on at first. Once I bit into it, I saw a few little pieces. The burgers come with fries, mustard, ketchup, and grilled onions. The wait time is a little longer than a typical drive thru place though. I waited 4 minutes for someone to be ready to take my order, and I waited an additional 6 minutes to receive my food. I don’t have a problem with this since they are making the food to order, but if there is someone in the drive thru ahead of you, you might be waiting a while. I think I’ll be back in the future to get my easy, greasy lunch on.

This place was once named NICKS… well they managed to change the name of same location, and even slightly altered the menu… BUT they still maintain the exact same horrible service… there’s no wonder they needed to change things from the way they were before. today I waited over 50 minutes for my food and I live ½mile away. the smart mouthed young girl who first improperly explained there was no owner and that she was manager and then finally admitted her parents owned the place was disrespectful and not consumer friendly at all… This wasn’t the only time I’ve dealt with this location and felt jaded over the phone… teenagers without proper professional phone etiquette should not be answering the telephone and/or trying to conduct business… honestly I can’t understand why anyone who cared about their business would leave it to this band of disrespectful misfits… after explaining the fact that the delivery guy STILL did not know my building or location yet called me at 52 minute mark after ordering all she could say was“Well whatever, he is new and umm we had other orders” Never one«sir», nor any amount of empathy for the fact I’m spending my money with them whatsoever… I’m done… don’t waste your time with this place… order from a place with capable workers, with respect and delivery men who know the area at least

Typical chicago fast food items but with some crazy variations like a burger with eight patties — the Ocho. Have breakfast items. Sandwiches and burgers come with fries but they are not fresh cut fries so I’m bummed. Some pizza slices ready to go but you can order a pizza from small to extra large. Garden salad and same item with chicken available.
