Kona Grill

We didn’t realize this was a chain until we walked in. There was just something off about it. We had made a reservation on OpenTable and got checked in and seated within a few minutes of arrival; however, there were two male managers and three female hostesses and not a single one of them acknowledged us or the other party there. The one female looked up and basically waited for me to say that we have a reservation.
We were seated in the bar area at a high top table. As a previous review mentions, there is not a lot of room at the table and we only had two people. It would have been better to have a couple fewer tables, but make them bigger. There is no way to walk through the bar area tables comfortably. Then the bar has lights hanging down that basically block the views of TVs from tables. Very strange. It was also very loud even though there were plenty of open tables.
After about five minutes, our server stopped by to tell us she would be right with us. Another five minutes and she came back. We ordered. Big bottle of Kirin Light to split and she came back with Kirin Ichiban. My wife asked for a water and I told her about the wrong beer. She brought back correct beer a few minutes later and we ordered our food. I ordered the Big Kahuna Cheeseburger medium and my wife ordered the Avocado and chicken club and the water again. It took around 25 minutes to get our food, which seemed long as they weren’t that crowded and we didn’t see our server during this time.
My burger was cooked perfectly and served with small, crispy fries. The wife’s sandwich was good and served with taro chips. My wife again asked for her water and I asked for salt and pepper. She finally brought the water and a normal salt shaker with a large pepper mill. She said she couldn’t leave the pepper on the table. We thought this was very strange as we both have peppered food and then need more pepper later. With fries, yes one peppering is probably enough and salads too, but not necessarily other foods.
While we were eating, one of the males who had been at the hostess stand walked by and asked how everything was; however, he didn’t stop and just kept walking. He really must have wanted to know. If you are going to ask a question, stick around for an answer!
Our food was good, service was okay, menu was fine (wouldn’t order sushi — as we don’t do frufru rolls), but we are not fans of chain restaurants and it would have to have been much better to get more than three stars.

The great atmosphere and location are tempered by the inattentive service and factory quality food. Went with another couple, ordered potstickers lettuce wraps, flatbread and a few kinds of sushi. Nothing wowed us, tasted like knockoff versions of the equivalents at nicer restaurants. Server was tough to find, the promised gluten free menu and water refills only found by bothering other staff. Perhaps they are still in the burn in phase for a new restaurant, but none were impressed.

my boyfriend and I decided to go here for dinner one night and try it out. we were not disappointed! there was about an hour and 45 minute wait for the 2 of us, but the hostess told us that the bar was first come first serve. we went upstairs to the bar and got seats right away. we were able to order from the full menu there, too!
we each got a soup. I got tomato basil bisque and he got clam chowder. we decided to just share an entrée since we both weren’t super hungry. we ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye with mashed potatoes and green beans.
the soups were so delicious! and the ribeye did not disappoint either! it had a perfect char on the outside and the teriyaki sauce gave it great flavor to pair with the grilled pineapple pieces.
after dinner we went out to the patio area and enjoyed a glass of wine by a gas fire pit. I loved the atmosphere and the service was good.
we would definitely come back and explore the menu more!

Tried this place twice. First time was four adults. Second time was two adults.
Food is okay. From appetizers, soups, and entrees the food is good, but nothing stood out. Meaning indistinguishable to any other restaurant in its class. So the rating comes down to service.
The first trip one of the adults ordered a cold salad that came out warm. When this was brought to the server’s attention, the server returned with a manager and sous chef who began a mild argument with our party over the nature of the dish and its temperature. Not particularly pleasant.
Second trip, the server attempted way too many «hey I’d like to be your buddy,» queries for our liking. Unable to take non-​verbal cues well, she kept at it. We had received a coupon which we placed with our card when the bill arrived. The server stood at our table for roughly 30 seconds examining the coupon as if it were some counterfeit bill.
Food earns this place three-​stars. Might have gone to four for ambiance as we liked the décor, aquarium, and place settings.
Service erased all these factors.

I was very impressed with Kona Grill’s new location in Liberty Township. The atmosphere created is really cool and inviting. It is a great place to go for an upscale dinner or date night or to even catch a sports game upstairs at their bar and outdoor patio.
The service and food were outstanding. We went for happy hour and the prices on drinks, appetizers and food were comparable. I definitely recommend going to check this place out. I will be going back soon!

We had the Gouda fondue and chicken shrimp lettuce wraps. Both we excellent. My daughters wished they could have just had plain chicken lettuce wraps but they couldn’t separate the shrimp and chicken. Sushi was good. Don’t think I would order the Oriental salad again as it was just ok and there were a lot more items I would order. Burger sliders were good and small chicken Caesar was just the right size for my daughter. Awesome outdoor seating.

Ordered 3 different flatbreads and they all had chewy crust. I prefer crispy crust. Only liked the margarita but not the one with the dried fruit (terrible) or the one with bbq chicken (too sweet). Tried the wave roll (wasnt rolled tight enough and fell apart when i ate it. Also had too much rice. Bad rice to fish ratio) tried the picasso roll (also not tight enough and the yellowtail on top was chewy). So i though the sushi overall was terrible. needs alot of improvement and more selection.

Arrived last night, Saturday, told hour wait for two, but bar seating was open. Very tight at hostess stand but took two open seats at bar. Ordered Mai tai’s (not best version), and shrimp tempura appetizer, salmon entrée and pork tenderloin. Appetizer came three min before entrée both all food was very good! Checked out upstairs bar — very cool!

Arriving at the kona grill, it seemed busy so we went in. Our waiter was very curt, the sushi was mediocre and not worth the price: I’ve had much better for less, while my dish was lacking flavor my friends dish was over powering with spice. I don’t see myself coming back in the future.

Wow what an awesome atmosphere. They have a very contemporary feel with a bar are that has huge retractable glass doors that open up to their patio and a green space that tonight had a band. They have 2 happy hours first is 3 – 7 half priced drinks and appetizers then from 11– till late half priced food. Tonight we had the Smokey Gouda cheese dip and one of their signature sushi rolls names after their sushi chef. Both were delicious.
The restaurant is also two levels with dinning and eating upstairs which is open on 3 sides. (See my pics)
