One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been too. Bonnie and her family were the best. Sad that it has closed. It’s a shame nothing can survive long in the various strip malls around BG Rd/Dundee Rd(I don’t know if it is high taxes but there are more empty buildings and eye-sores where there used to be good businesses)

So, in my travels through the Northern Suburbs I am choosing to try some of the abundance of available Asian cuisine. Well, my solo lunch was not so good. Pad khe mao, was not so good and neither was the belly ache that followed. So what made my lunch so crappy: Bad, abrupt service. Seat yourself, sticky table, long wait to order, walked away before I could order tea, forgotten soup, mediocre pad khe mao, the forgotten soup served gelatinous and tempid and inedible, and finally a wait for the cashier. Positive: It was cheap. Hmpf.

I love Thai food and this place is one of the better ones in the suburbs for just that. I like the owners/staff of the restaurant. They are very nice and courteous. I usually enjoy everything they make there. Some of the things I would stay away from is their beef and Thai Hot Curry. The beef is pretty tough and the Thai Curry is a bit on the tangy side. Otherwise, I’ve enjoyed everything else I’ve had there — basil ground chicken, pad see ewe, thai fried rice, fried golden bags, mini chicken egg rolls, thai iced tea, and panang curry. Their lunch specials are a good deal with big portions. I definitely visit this place as much as possible.

If you are ordering takeout, do remind them to provide utensils should you need. The small soup came with 3 shrimps that tasted a bit like dirt. Larb salad looks small but was actually filling. It could have used a bit more spice, but I could’ve asked for chili sauce. The place looks a bit tired and dingy but I’ll have to try more dishes to better evaluate.

Well, we keep trying this place, and keep settling on the fact that this place is decent enough and close enough for us to try again if we’re hankering for Thai food. The Basil Fried Rice is excellent, although I’d stick with tofu vs the slightly old chicken we had last night. I had the Eggplant with tofu, which was tasty, although more tofu than eggplant. The Spring Rolls were good, but I miss the peanut sauce I’ve been used to at Thai restaurants. Overall, we’d go back, but, as my handsome spouse says, «I wouldn’t jump for joy about it».

This is a hidden gem our friend introduced us to. The staff was friendly and the seats were movable so it was pretty wheelchair accessible. There is wheelchair accessible parking. I’m not sure if the restrooms are accessible. My green curry was spicy and not sweet. My sister liked her Thai ice tea and said her pad thai was ok. I ordered a mango smoothie that was very sweet; the whole restaurant roared when they blended it. We both really liked the spicy chicken dish our friend let us try, but I don’t remember what it was called.

Terrible service. Hotel closes at 10PM but when we entered at 9.15PM; we got the bill and food together saying account closes in 10 mins. So we paid before eating. Rude staff. least bothered about customers. Speak in native languages loudly making ambience noisy. Fist and last visit for us… feel bad to waste friday evening here!!! would never return.

We went here for a weeknight dinner couple of weeks back. Got in at 8:23 only to be told that they couldn’t serve us because they close at 9 — Seriously? To my amazement, there was not a single other customer yet this attitude.

Terrible service — seem to be too busy with take out orders to follow up with our table. Ordered spring rolls — came stuck together, so fell apart when trying to each. Bland flavor, did not seem that fresh. My wife order de seafood noodles, asked for It spicy, did my plate instead(I do not eat spicy). That is not the problem, the problem is that the waiter was hard to flag down. Not the highest quality ingredients. I do not recommend his place.

Living up to the hype, this quaint restaurant really packs authentic Thai flavors into every dish. It’s clearly family owned and operated, and the dishes really embody it. We ordered spring rolls, and soup to start. Spring rolls were fresh, coated with a generous dose of a sweet and tangy sauce. The soups were flavorful and piping hot(Tom Kha and Hot & Sour). Our main course was two dishes, which were served with a heaping bowl of perfectly cooked white rice. Green Curry Shrimp: served in an oblong dish, the sauce was sweet and spicy, veggies were cooked just enough to bring out their flavor while retaining a fresh, crisp texture. The shrimp were tender and plentiful. Basil Duck:(not on the menu) this was incredible. The owner recommended it as we wanted to try a duck dish along with the shrimp curry. A heaping portion of tender meat and veggies cooked in a remarkable hot basil sauce. The two of us, though satiated about ½ way through the entrees, couldn’t help but devour every last morsel. I had to hold myself back from licking my plate! Food came quickly, server was attentive and owner offered meal options outside the menu. This is a phenomenal place for authentic Thai, made with love, and the prefect balance of spices!

I have been going to I am Siam for years and unfortunately last week’s visit will be my last. Not because of the food(which I have always liked), but because of a disgusting unsanitary condition I witnessed. I went on a night of snowstorm, so no customers were in restaurant… I headed right to washroom and noticed somebody in the first stall who was having some issues as the toilet kept flushing. A waitress came out of the stall and she did NOT wash her hands-GROSS!!! When I came out, I told the manager immediately and sat down to see that this specific server was putting plates on all the tables. It took the manager at least 5 minutes to tell the server to go wash her hands(which I heard her turn the faucet on in the kitchen for, literally, 3 seconds– I’m sure her hands were quite clean then!) I never received an apology from the owner either. FYI: I called the health dept and made a complaint. I’ll never return to I Am Siam after seeing first-hand the unsanitary conditions of its employees.

Comfy restaurant with a definite family owned and traditional feel to it. The prices and portions are decent and the food has a bit more unique flavors compared to other local Thai restaurants. In general, the flavors are bright and simple — not very complex but it’s clear what the theme and main ingredient of each dish are. Vietnamese iced coffee — Not the strongest, not the creamiest — but definitely a very pleasant flavor. If you’ve never tried this, you’ll realize why there are so many converts away from the coffee chains to this amazing drink. Soft spring rolls — not really as meaty or as savory as what you’ll find in a Vietnamese restaurant but the sweet plum sauce with peanuts and sweet egg give this dish a nice touch. The bean sprouts and thai sausage also give this a slightly unique flavor. My only criticism is that the crushed peanuts in the sauce did not have much flavor. Siam pancake — Very crispy and sweet with a variety of textures and colors in the filling. What really makes this dish great is the mix of the ground peanuts with shredded coconut which produce a very aromatic flavor. The cucumber salad this is served with with also very nice and refreshing(and sweet without much acidic flavor). Yellow curry with pork — Not too spicy. The pork here was a bit overcooked but not stringy. The potatoes, onion, and coconut milk helped to temper down the spicyness of the curry. Shrimp lad nar — Decent sized shrimp, served with fresh vegetables over pan fried rice wide-noodle. The noodles had a nice smooth soft texture to them and the black bean sauce was savory and not overpowering. Seafood special noodle — Combination of seafood over egg noodle. Did not really stand out as a great dish but wasn’t bad either. I’d go with other dishes over this one. Chicken pad thai — good sweet and sourness to it. The thin rice noodles were nice and soft(generally I prefer they have some bounce rather than be al-dente). Flavorful but not so much you can’t finish the whole dish in a single sitting. Probably one of the better preparations I’ve had in the area of this dish.
