Uncle Pete’s

Went here after golfing at Oglebay Park with my wife. We love the food! I got the garden salad (always ice cold) and the stuffed banana peppers (the best you will ever have)! She got the smoked ribs that were fall off the bone, delicious! We love sitting on the deck overlooking the Ohio River but without shades you sit there and bake in the hot summer sun. Wish they would get shades put back up.

We had delicious appetizers and drinks and a beautiful deck overlooking the river. Very nice service. Cicadas are out everywhere thing mean us a serenade song. The only problem we had is that we had to eat off of dishes made in China instead of from Homer Laughlin or Hall which is right in the vicinity just a half hour away. I like and prefer eating dishes prepared in China it is from the Ohio Valley

If I could give this less than a 1 star, I would. My 2 life long girlfriends and I meet once or twice a year for dinner and catch up conversation. We decided to meet at Uncle Pete’s. I was the first one there and told the girl who seated us «put us as far away from people because we will be here a good while and we will be talking a lot» (not that we are loud!) she seated us in a corner, which was fine. My two friends arrived and we ordered our drinks and looked at the menu. We weren’t quite ready to order, so we asked our server to give us a few more mins. Needless to say, she was put out with our request (in hind site, we should have left). We had our meal and in the midst of our conversation (maybe an hour and 20 mins into our visit), we were approached by the manager and not politely told since we were done with our meal, we needed to leave so they could have our table. I have NEVER been «kicked out» of a restaurant!!! We gathered our things, paid our bills and left. All three of us were dumbfounded at what had just happened. Right then and there, we decided NOT to meet at Uncle Pete’s ever again. So, Uncle Pete’s has been crossed off our eatery list! They just lost 3 repeat customers. If you go to Uncle Pete’s be fore warned: you might get kicked out if you stay too long!!! Oh yeah… Our server got no tip as she has a pissy attitude and did not return to check on us during our meal. She needs a lesson in public relations!!!

Stopped here on a road trip because of the good reviews; just wanted a filling, decent meal for a decent price. The prices were fine. The meal itself, not so much. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwhich and my boyfriend got the open face roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. He isn’t picky, he will literally eat anything and all he cares about is that a meal fills him up. He was mostly full after the meal, but it was so tasteless that he wanted to get more food elsewhere because the meal wasn’t satisfying. I’m not picky either, but I couldn’t even finish my sandwhich. The bread was stale, the chicken was dry, and it somehow managed to both have no flavor and taste awful at the same time. I would’ve (kindly) informed the waitress that I really wasn’t enjoying my meal, but she never came back to ask how our food was, and didn’t even ask how it was when she dropped off the check. I was disappointed by this place because the view was so pretty and it seemed like a cool place that I would’ve wanted to stop at on my way back home.

I have always gotten the open faced turkey with mashed potatoes, but last night we tried their wings and ribs.
Both are smoked and then wings are deep fried briefly. Let me tell you, they both exceeded any expectations I had. Delicious !!!

Excellent food. Especially enjoy the appetizers. Great outdoor patio overlooking the river. Always good service.

Visited Wheeling to meet my daughter and tour the Festival of Lights. Afterward we went downtown looking for dinner. Not much life downtown but charming with some nice buildings. We found 2 places open and chose Uncle Pete’s and loved it. Located on the edge of downtown in an old 19^th century house, lovely setting. It was winter so we couldn’t use what looked like a fabulous deck overlooking the river. The server was excellent. I got the ribs and loved them. Everyone else at the table got something different and enjoyed them. Just really good food at a decent price. Great service.
Probably closer to a 4 ½ but since not an option, went with 5. If we visit Wheeling again I look forward to trying it again. Maybe for breakfast!

Every time I come to Wheeling I try to visit Uncle Pete’s. I really enjoy the food. Typically, I get a chicken Philly sandwich, steak salad or grilled chicken salad. All three are really delicious. I enjoy the fresh bread that comes with the salad.
The patio is fantastic when the weather is nice. It overlooks the Ohio River and has a nice breeze.

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Uncle Pete’s! The drinks were extremely cheap, and the food was solid. Their menu was a bit more diverse than typical bar fare, but it seems like they do a good job with the wide array of food. Sit on the covered deck in the back– it’s really nice and offers a great view of the river and nearby bridge.
One tip: they have a private parking lot, but the hill to get in is really, really steep. I opted for street parking.

The food here is excellent! For appetizers, we got the deep fried potato balls and the deep fried zucchini. I felt like the potato ball serving size was too small, but it was very good. The zucchini was delicious, a definite try even if you don’t think of yourself as a zucchini kind of person.
For the main course, I got the Chicken Marsala and it was amazing and the portion was generous. My boyfriend got a shrimp and pasta dish that he was very pleased with as well.
They have three different places you can enjoy your meal. You can sit outside and overlook the river, you can eat at the bar area inside (also a view), or you can eat inside at regular tables. All of the areas were nice.
Overall, the food is 5 stars. The only issue we had was service. Food came out slowly, and we never knew where our waitress was. Getting refills or anything else was difficult. We weren’t really happy with the service. Also, in the room we were seated there was a trash can right by the tables, and we found that pretty unhygienic. However, still a nice place with really tasty food. We will be back!

Uncle Pete’s has very good food. I recommend the wings. Be sure to sit on the back deck for a great river view.

Well I loved the building — its ambiance. The staff was friendly although very very busy on a Friday night at dinner time.
The ribs were very good. The crab cakes were ok. The stuffed shrimp were also just ok. All in all better than Perkins but not a place to go for a fancy dinner.
If I lived in the area I would definitely visit again. It’s seems to be a popular place for many.

Baked Canadian whitefish very tasty. Barbeque ribs very good. Side dishes are not on a par with main dish but average. Beer selection is better than average for a restaurant. Wine selection limited to half dozen choices. Plastic chairs on outside elevated deck. Nice atmosphere.

Good food and excellent service. I was up in the area on business and wanted to eat somewhere I had never been before. Uncle Pete’s sounded right up my alley. I had the Open-​faced Roast beef sandwich, smothered in gravy and mashed potatoes! It was so good, reminded me of something my family would enjoy. Also opted for some smoked Chicken wings, very good. I just wish there have been Garlic butter sauce on the side as well for me to dip them in.

Very good selection. Something for everyone. Italian, seafood and a selection of smoked meats. Daily specials. My husband had two smoked pork chops with scalloped potatoes for 6.95! I had chicken Marsala (11.00 i think) and it was delish! Parking in the back with seating indoor and patio with a nice view of the river and Wheeling Island.
On our second visit we had the zucchini app which was great (see pics) and we both had a tasty sandwich. His was a Philly melt and mine a French dip. Both around 8.00 each.

Very impressed with the French Dip hoagie both times I’ve got it. Definitely goes great with the sauce that goes with it. Can’t think how to spell it now and don’t want to embarrass myself.
Looking to try the wings next time.

Another great lunch at Uncle Pete’s today. I had a chicken pita, which was wonderful, but I’ve never had a bad meal there. The atmosphere is very cool. It’s worth putting up with cramped quarters to see all of the amazing architecture in this converted Victorian house. In the summer, you can’t beat breakfast on the deck with a great view of the river. The fifth star is missing because service was a little lackluster the last two times I was there. Not rude, just indifferent. I think maybe the individual servers were just having off days, because the many times I’ve been there before our servers have been wonderful.

I wish I didn’t live an hour away from this place. Any time we’re in Wheeling, we eat here. I’ve had many of their sandwiches but, after having their Reuben, that was it for me. It’s the best Reuben I’ve ever had in my life and I get it every time I go (my husband always gets the turkey jerky). I basically tell everyone in the Ohio Valley to try Uncle Pete’s!

I stopped in with my wife for a beer and snacks while on a motorcycle trip. Beautiful day and sat on the back deck with a good view. I had the smoked wings, honey barbecue sauce. These wings were the best that I have had in four years from a restaurant! Excellent wings!
