Gyros were great. Coffee was good. Affordable. Waiter was very nice. This place is the quintessential Greasy Spoon. Can’t go wrong.

The food in and of itself was good. The atmosphere is what has made me give this restaurant 2 stars. There is hardly any room to stand/wait for a table or bar stool, never mind space for the waitresses to move through and serve their customers. My daughter and I waited for about 35 minutes before being seated. Even then, there is no process for being seated. People who came in after us, were seated first because they were standing near the available stools. This is a local place, so if you are from the area definitely check it out, otherwise there are probably better establishments in the area to visit.

Tiny little diner, nothing fancy, but really good food. The fries were crispy and so hot that I had to blow on them to keep from burning my fingers. Plates are so generous most of my party could not eat it all. And the servers were friendly, with colorful personalities. If you always wanted to eat at an old fashioned diner then this is your place. Leave the diet at home!

I ordered mozzarella sticks from here with a group of coworkers and wouldn’t have expected much from a late night diner, but I saw the four stars on Unilocal and thought these might have been homemade and super tasty. These might have been homemade I have no idea but they definitely tasted like they had been frozen, thrown in a deep fat fryer, and served. The dipping sauce was super basic. They did screw up our order and left a coworker without their meal and we had to go back for it, so that’s a negative as well. I rated this place a three star because if I’d done a two star I would consider it a place I’d never return, and I can’t say that I wouldn’t try a different dish from Star given the high ratings that others have given.

I’ve been to Star Diner many times over the years. There are several items on the menu I’d recommend as good values, and some I wouldn’t. When i’ve eaten there, the food is always prepared to order, and comes out as you’d expect it. They do a very good job with breakfast items, e.g. scrambled eggs and omelets. if you order a cheese omelet with a side of home fries and toast, and ask them to burn the home fries, you’ll get a good side of well done home fries. If you like french fries as a side order, they make a good side of fries, but take note that if a menu item doesn’t include fries, they don’t offer an option to add a side of fries. They do offer fries as an additional menu item, but you’ll be paying up for compared to the price of adding a side of fries to items that offer it. This is not the place to go if you want a late night burger. they do offer burgers, but they’re the same small patties you see at McD’s, for more money. If you want a late night burger, you’re better off driving over to the McD’s on Central Ave. in White Plains, which is also 24 hours, and offers all of its standard menu during late night, except the dollar menu. Aside from the breakfast menu, they do make good deli sandwiches like turkey clubs here, and a good philly steak style sandwich, even though it’s not on a hoagie roll. It may not have much in the way of peppers and onions on it, but they provide a generous portion of sliced seak on the sandwich for the money. If you’re trying to lose weight, this is not the place to go. If you need to gain weight, you’ll get a good bang for your buck here, and you’ll do it with items that taste pretty good.

This is an old school railway car style diner. Eating a late night toasted blue with butter is said to be a rite of passage at Harrison High School, but the meal you’ll want to have here is breakfast. Quick, tasty and fresh, reasonably priced, with decent diner coffee. Friendly service. I usually go for the corned beef hash. The home fries with it could be a little more well done. Cash only my friends.

Good: Fast; inexpensive or at worst case, fair price. In the middle: Food is standard old-fashioned diner fare. It’s fine, just nothing to write home about. Bad: Cash only(severely limits me, I rarely carry much cash); no real decaf(Sanka only for those that care, I don’t); no half & half(I care about this one); only grape jelly, no strawberry(don’t care). If they actually worked on a few of the negatives, this normally very busy place would have a perpetual line out the door.

3.5 stars. A no-frills, rail car themed old school diner with plenty of metered parking, FAST service as expected, and decent food. To be honest, the BF and I were satisfied but not blown away by the food. Tastes just like what you can make at home but at least someone is making it for you. Egg over medium was definitely cooked more like it was over easy. Bacon is on the crispy side which is what I prefer. Toast was not as fluffy as I like. Coffee is decent, would prefer stronger coffee. CA$H only, but ATM right by the doorway. Bathrooms to the back. There is a lot of yelling back and forth of orders between the employees which I suppose authenticates the fast food, dining experience.

This place is solid and cheap. We really loved the corned beef hash and home fries. It’s definitely a breakfast place. Their pot roast was inedible as was the mashed potatoes. The pie was delicious and cheap. I would definitely come back for the hash though. Would have been 3 stars but the service was great.

I don’t know what they do, but I’m a fiend for this place’s breakfast sandwiches. I’m from California and this is usually my first stop once I’m in New York. I have family in White Plains. I visit every couple of years. Not once have I been disappointed here and I love that every time I come, I see the same faces behind the counter. I’ve had their burgers and fries and pies. All very tasty and delicious. True diner with food that makes my belly happy.

Got the Corn beef and hash with two eggs When I finished the corn beef and hash with two eggs I had just completed one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. I tip my hat to these people and I will tell everyone I know. Im so glad they are all alive and real

I had an OK breakfast at Star Diner. My spinach and mushroom omelette came out really fast but the eggs were very browned. Mayeb too fast with too my heat? A little slower on the cooking end might have produced a better product. The coffee was good and the service was friendly. I am still on my quest to find a great place for breakfast in Westchester County.

Not a bad little diner. Pure vintage… it looks like they built a street-facing façade on top of an old-school diner car that sits sideways on the block. Food was good, not the best diner food ever, but pretty serviceable. Atmosphere and décor were top shelf. Note: cash only.

You know, I wasn’t a fan. Somehow, chili-cheese fries and a meatball sandwich cost me $ 17.00. Are you effing kidding me? $ 9.75 for some greasy fries topped with a scoop of canned chili, and a slice of American cheese? Really? The meatball sandwich had zero flavor. And the waitress never even thought to ask if I wanted more water. I would NOT recommend this place. It’s ok if nowhere else is open and you absolutely need food, but if not… find another place.

Hidden gem, found in the midst of a road trip, thanks to my fellow Unilocalers. It’s a super tight space(e.g., the door to the bathroom is like the entrance to a hobbit hole), but the food is totally legit and the service super friendly. Couldn’t have asked for a better stop to cure our hangovers. :P Note: Cash only, but they have an ATM.

The Star gets 5 stars from me. Have been here a few times with large business groups(15 – 20 people) at a time, and each experience has been fantastic. Can get everything from pancakes to vegetarian here, anytime of the day. Service is fast and friendly. Ambiance: Classic diner look and feel. Just makes you smile because it is so different from other restaurants. Parking is easy and free in their private lot. I highly recommend if you are in the area and want something unique.

Yo Star, yo? A White Plains classic, Star Diner has been churning out culinary delights for ages. Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior, this place is top notch. Traditionally, this is a spot I’ll hit after 10pm and there is no better sensation than walking up those few steps and being bombarded with the fine smells wafting off the grill. Give Pauly some daps and settle in one of the booths or at the counter. The counter is a nice choice if you want to watch the masterful chefs at work. I’d recommend ordering anything that is made fresh on the grill. These are going to primarily be breakfast– like items. That grill is a magical thing. I imagine it like a Wok, absorbing the other flavors it combines everything into a greasy/undeniably delicious taste every time. My staple order is 2 pancakes with bacon and it’ll run you $ 5.50. Consistently very satisfying and delicious. If you’re smart, finish it off with a toasted blue(blueberry muffin). The milkshakes are also very good. The service is quick and always friendly. Pauly always holds it down. Downsides: Cash only It isn’t very clean Not good for groups of more than 4 There has been many a night my friends and I ventured down East Post road for Star and it has never disappointed me. We typically go to Kennedy’s for a center keel after, but I suppose that is a review for another time.

When I was a kid, it seemed like every diner was just like the Star; a menu packed with diner classics, waiters quickly serving huge platters of piping hot food, counter seats facing the grill, and consistently delicious meals no matter when you went. Unfortunately, the reality in Westchester today is that diners mostly suck. Why? My take is that they are owned and staffed by a new generation who has no idea what made these places great back in the day. The food is boring and inconsistent, the décor is tired and outdated, and the service can be slow or surly. Star Diner brings everything back to where it should be. The food is sensational, the staff is quick, and the atmosphere is classic NYC diner. Funny that it took me a few years of crappy Westchester diner meals to finally discover this gem. Five stars.
