This ruby’s has been declining in quality over the last year. I’ve been eating at ruby’s for years now and have come to love them but unfortunately this particular location is going down hill in food quality and service. My last visit on Saturday will be my last at this location. The meat patty was half the size they used to serve and service time has increased way too much. It’s a shame because rubies restaurant are too hard to find these days.

Good food at a very reasonable price. No wait time.(even on a Sunday morning). Our waitress, Barbara, was very sweet and attentive. My only gripe was the avocado on the omelette was not quite ripe yet.

$ 38 for crap food. I got the fish & chips(to go) and they gave me no malt vinegar for it, which I thought was included. Ruined the entire dish. The fries were honestly the worst fries I’ve had in a while. My bf got the cheeseburger, he didn’t even finish it. My Dad got the hickory burger, and he said it was the greasiest thing he’s eaten since he was a KID! Overall, super mediocre/crap food at super inflated prices. Blah!

I do enjoy the traditional American vibe of Ruby’s diner. Burgers, shakes, and etc but am not a fan of the cost of the food. Our server, Lupe G, was very attentive! Really enjoyed his service during our meal! 1 shake, strawberry banana 1 Hickory Burger, w/sweet potato fries Two slices of melted Cheddar cheese, with thick-cut bacon, crisp lettuce, tomato, RubySauce and crispy RubyRings, all topped with zesty BBQ sauce. 1 Guacamole Burger, w/sweet potato fries Topped with a generous portion of housemade guacamole, two slices of Swiss cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato and RubySauce. All fries are re-fillable but our first batch of sweet potato fries were burnt to a crisp! They were left in the fryer for awhile. We were both surprised that the cooks and the server did not notice how poorly they were fried. We had to ask for another batch since these are not edible. Overall, I won’t come here for a burger fix unless I’m craving a 40’s vibe. There is also usually plenty of parking as it is right next to the USPS in the mall parking lot.

I would normally have given Ruby’s 5 stars and wished that I could give them 10. But I’ve got to say. I’m a little hurt by how I’ve been treated by Ruby’s. I’ve been a customer for over 20 years. I’m very loyal. Love this place and recommend it to everyone I know. I love the music, and the décor. The wonderful 1940s retro vibe in there. But here’s where they go wrong. I’ve written them, on their website, to let them know about things I’m no happy about … and they don’t even reply. They’ve been making some lousy decisions about their menu lately. Removing just about everything that I love about this place. They taken the soft tacos off the menu. Umm, what? Are you kidding me? Not everyone wants a burger. These were a great alternative for vegetarians. Then they also removed the«go fit» vegetarian patty from the menu. It was the absolute ultimate veggie burger. My mouth would water for it. THEN they removed the Hawaiian Burger, or maybe it was called Aloha, I don’t exactly remember. But it had pineapple on it. Which is FANTASTIC on a burger. They’re clearing not wanting to be as vegetarian friendly as before and one would think after 20 years of loyalty to them, they would have the common courtesy to respond to my letters. But I guess not. Sad. Oh and while I’m at it. Another thing. When they send out a free shake coupon for your birthday, why do they have to make it expire so quickly??? Not everyone lives in the area. I live in San Francisco, and by the time I get down to LA to visit family, my coupon is expired. So after 20 years of loyalty, I also never get my free shake for my birthday! So thanks for nothing!

Very disappointed! We went after church on Sunday had a very nice waitress very friendly we placed her order she came by several times and told us our order was coming soon after she filled her iced tea glasses for the fourth time she looked at us and said your ticket is next! That was about 35 minutes later at one point the table sitting next to us who sat down after us had appetizers and their order had already come to their table and went up to the front and confronted the manager and asked her what happened to my order she said they were very busy and she didn’t know what happened but my order would come I asked for an exclamation because it had been 45 minutes she said there was no explanation they were busy… So we left!

I remembered having great experiences at Ruby’s when going to the one at the Huntington Beach pier a long time ago. For some reason I have never tried this location that’s SO close to my house so, since we were passing by we thought we’d try it. First, it’s a little on the expensive side. We ordered a couple beers which came in bottles, and turned out to be $ 6 each.(They didn’t list the price.) I usually get a very tall glass of the same beer on tap for that at other comparable restaurants. We also had to hunt down the waiter any time we needed something– that’s something that frustrates us the most when dining out. Our waiter was very nice, and we actually saw him walking around quite a bit, but he never scanned the room to see if anyone was trying to flag him down. My boyfriend ordered a pretty expensive burger which came with bottomless fries, and I ordered a «Vegwich» which is a veggie sandwich that was also supposed to come with fries and a side salad. I even confirmed with the waiter that this was correct, and he said yes. When my order arrived it had 3 fries on the plate. I assumed they just forgot, so I went and found the waiter and brought the menu with me, and said«Hi, I ordered the Vegwich and it was supposed to come with fries(*pointed to the ‘Served With Refillable Fries’ part*) but I didn’t get any with my meal.» He paused, and then said«I can do that for you, since your boyfriend got the refillable fries I’ll just bring you another order of them.» I was like… okay…thanks? I mean I’m getting what I asked for but it was treated almost like it was a favor to me, and it wasn’t. I’m simply asking for what I ordered based on what was advertised. Later on I happened to see the back of the menu where it displays healthier options, and oddly it listed the«Vegwich» there again, but without the option of fries. That’s not the part of the menu I ordered from though, and pointing it out should have cleared up the matter. Maybe management should remove one or the other? I included pictures of the menu to show what I’m talking about. Anyway, this experience was pretty«meh» and I doubt we’ll be back.

At ruby’s in the whittwood mall, for breakfast. Ordered the ruby’s omelette, with sourdough toast and ruby’s potatoes. THISISTHEWORSTBREAKFAST I’VEHADINTHEENTIREAREA. THE omelette itself not so bad, the toast only buttered on half of the toast, but the potatoes, the potatoes are hard and cold, and almost RAW. Put the potatoes on a separate plate, the waitress looked at the plate and attempted to hurry by like I wasn’t there. So they brought me a new order of these potatoes. After they deep fried the shit out of them. I’m never coming back, ever. If ruby was still alive I don’t know if she is or not, and I had her address, I’d box this shit up and drop it in her yard in Cowan heights or lemon heights. I well never eat here again. Not ever.

I usually have a better experience but for some reason, tonight was really off. Idk if it was due to the car show but they ran out of glasses and my vanilla root beer was served in a paper cup. My cheeseburger had very little flavor and the ruby’s sauce was nonexistent. I ordered the Cajun fries thinking they’d be tossed with jalapeños or something and they were just covered in seasoned salt. My 2 year old could even eat it, so Cajun it wasn’t. The chocolate banana shake was very good and had chunks of bananas. Don’t get me wrong, we’ll be coming back because we know how could it can be. But for tonight, it’s only a 3…

Came here for dinner with a friend to support a charity event; Ruby’s donated 20% of all food and non-alcoholic beverages to the local community theater. Appreciate the support for the theater. The food was fine. The vanilla malt brought back a lot of childhood memories. It was delicious and probably is the single reason I’d return. I ordered my burger without tomatoes but it still came with them. Easy to pick them off but annoying when I asked«No tomatoes.» I also had the onion rings in lieu of the fries. Go with the fries — the onion ring option short changes you. I got maybe six or seven onion rings, most on the smallish side. Service was okay with the exception of requests not honored but not a big deal. Like I said, the malt is the only reason I’d come back. Ruby’s is okay nothing extraordinarily special.

Finally decided to make a trip back here after a long long time. I remembering liking it here so thought I’d give it another chance. Walking in we were told to choose a table to the right which is where all the guests were sitting. We got the last booth that would fit us. Server came a couple minutes later and we ordered our drinks. The server was super nice but service was just too slow throughout the whole dining. They forgot to give us kids menus so when we got those it seemed like forever til our order got placed. I never get burgers, ever. But this time I decided I wanted to try one. I got the bacon cheeseburger which was okay. It seemed dry and bacon had a weird flavor. The cheese on it was a thick cut so I did like that. The fries are thin, nothing special. The shakes however, are really good. We shared a chocolate peanut butter shake and there wasn’t enough of it. Back to service. It was just slow to get everything. Refills… place order… getting our food. I wasn’t impressed at all and just wanted to get out of there as it was getting late! I felt the prices didn’t meet the foods taste. Probably won’t be back.

All Time Song Parody #497 Unilocal 1002015 Review #73 Her buns are golden like the sun and vast like the universe. The thick, round, golden buns catch my attention but there is more inside this cheeseburger at Ruby’s. «Ooh, I think that I found myself a cheeseburger, she is has bacon and cheese that I dream of» The fries were skinny and not too oily, they had a moderate amount of salt, compared to fast food chains. The to-go bag is rather nice. I think dine-in is probably the best option, as the plastic packaging traps in moisture, lessening the impact of French fry flavor. Parking was easy, its in the Whitwood Plaza area. Waitresses were dressed as one may imagine in a televion show like«Happy Days» or «The Wonder Years» Song parody of Omi’s 2015 song«Cheerleader» For my hunger stimulation I think of burgers with good cheese And some bacon Yeah, yeah I am always looking forward Juicy, like I want her All cheeseburgers are so tempting Stomach empty when she’s gone So she says Do you want me? I went to lunch here today at about 2PM because it is one of the few places I can get a gluten free bun for my hamburger. About a half hour after I ate it, I knew it wasn’t gluten free because I was bent over with stabbing pain in my gut. It is almost ten and I am still suffering the effects. I will never eat at this restaurant again. If you have celiac disease or are highly sensitive to gluten the Whittier location is not a safe place! I rate minus 5 stars.

Came here for breakfast because Mimi’s had a line. I ordered eggs over hard with bacon. The eggs came out undercooked and runny, and the bacon came out cold. This breakfast was overall pretty disappointing and I will not be coming back. You would be better off going to IHOP or Mimi’s. Service was polite and helpful.

My family and I eat out every Sunday morning and decided to try Rubys for breakfast. We were all shocked by how expensive everything was and just to substitute for egg whites was an additional $ 1; never have we been charged extra for ordering egg whites. Even the oatmeal was ridiculously expensive. The food was just okay. Nothing special and the service on this trip was lousy. I even heard the people behind me comment that the server was too serious. I don’t mind paying more but when I can get better quality food and WAYBETTER service and an atmosphere at a Denny’s, why would I come back here?

Our server was fantastic, the food was pretty much OK. The two stars, unfortunately, were for the manager’s refusal to address a problem with some(about 8) wayward kids who were running all through the restaurant and out of control. Before you start shaking your finger at me and calling me old fashioned(I’ll admit to that, by the way) let me tell you a couple of things. First, I know it was RUBY’s, not some 5 star dining establishment. I expect a higher than normal noise level and a fairly large mixture of kids and young people who may or may not talk loudly and move quickly. What I don’t think was appropriate was the way the herd of children(all between about 6 years old and probably 12 or 13) were allowed to occupy the empty booth directly next to ours and hop all around it like animals, or how they went between their families four booths or so at the end of the restaurant(where the adults in their party, most likely all relatives or some group members meeting) were pointedly ignoring their antics and frankly seemed relieved that the kids were playing up far from their conversations. I really thought that when the kids attacked the bank of counter seats and started spinning the round stools at faster and faster speeds, that the manager would step in and politely ask them to return to their booths and to remain with their families. But it didn’t happen. In fact, nothing happened until I asked our waitress for our bill and let her know that the antics of the children were in essence forcing us to leave much sooner than we would have done. She apologized very sincerely to me and to our whole table which was nice of her even though it was not her fault the kids were acting up. I told her as much and asked whether there was a manager working that evening that we could speak to, and she pointed out the caucasian man who was actually waiting on the group of people and was fully aware of the hyperactive kids and their stunts. Yes, I was sort of shocked at that. That is terrible management, not just from the perspective of irritating other guests who are eating there, but also from simply a liability aspect. What if one of the kids tripped or slipped while running and acting up? The parents, I’m sure, would think nothing of suing Ruby’s for pain and suffering. Besides the kids being out of control and getting the full go ahead from their parents’ ignorance and from the manager also implying consent by ignoring their behavior, the men’s restroom was completely flooded; as was discovered by someone in our party. He told the staff when he noticed it(he took his daughter to the restroom) and was told they would take care of it. Last point: our very nice server tried to remedy the situation by quietly mentioning the issue we brought up to her manager who then had a conversation with the person paying the bill for the disruptive kid’s booths… only trouble was, the manager was sort of snickering, like, «Oh you know how some people are…» sort of look and we DID notice it. Especially when the rest of the four booths full of people heard about it and called their kids back to their tables and then shot us dirty looks for the 10 minutes it took for us to gather our coats and get the heck out of there. Bottom line: We do not recommend eating here or even ordering out from here. I would not support their efforts to run a business given the lack of effort they took to make sure we had a reasonable experience at their place. Of course we still tipped our waitress, she had nothing to do with it… but a word of warning. Not sure if it is the location in the middle of Whittier, though I hate to use that reasoning for the lack of manners of this particular group of kids or if the parents were just sorely lacking in parenting skills. Either way, avoid it at all costs. For those of you still wondering about the food: turkey pot pie: yummy and hot. Garlic fries: great garlic but cold. Chili fries: hot and tasty. Child’s mac n cheese: good for kids. Shakes: we’ve had better.
