I had the bbq brisket on a baked potato. Also had a chopped beef sandwich. Both were delicious. The sides are too. Nice atmosphere. Great service.

Driven by this place many times, decided to finally stop and give them a shot tonight. Very clean and well-kept, roadhouse atmosphere. Ordered take-out, 1 pound ribs, 1 pint Mary’s Beans, 1 small tater salad, 1 order okra, sweet tea. Nice counter gals, young and friendly, a couple of older fellows working the kitchen, but only 1 patron eating at a picnic table indoors. I guess that should have told me something at 6 p.m. on a Saturday night, but being Christmas, I assumed most people were at a mall. The ribs looked appetizing at first, long and lean, good color, but out of the pound, only 4 were edible. Those 4 covered up a bunch of short pieces that were so tough that they couldn’t be chewed. Very disappointing and a rip-off. I had to toss them. The ones that we did consume were pretty good. Didn’t care for their BBQ sauce, however. Just a personal preference, as we like a sweeter, tangier flavor. The okra was hot and fresh, but nothing outstanding. The mustard-mayo blend red potato salad was decent. Mary’s Beans are a mix of 6 or 7 different beans baked in a chili-like sauce with meat, and that was quite tasty. Very sweet southern-style tea, just the way we like it. No bread included with the order, which seemed strange for a BBQ place, even if I did order just ribs. They have a large menu, fair prices, daily down-home lunch specials like meatloaf and chicken spaghetti. Don’t know if I’ll go back to try the famed brisket or not, since I couldn’t eat half of my entrée tonight. What a shame.

We went in on a tuesday. Should have been slow. Of course there was an Xmas party. We ordered turkey. High school cashiers told us, «sorry we are out of turkey». Then one of the little girls checks with the cook, «ok sorry, we do have turkey«. So we order. Waited 35 minutes, then we are told, «sorry we are out of turkey, would you like to reorder something else?» Really, are you kidding me?. We got a refund and left. HEYZACH, WHYDON’T ANYGROWN-UPSWORKHERE?

Wow! Try the stuffed jalapeños like everyone says. To die for! The brisket was phenomenal, their bbq sauce amazing, kids loved the grilled cheese and mashed potatoes. The stuffed potato was spot on. The staff is super sweet! If a train comes by, beer is a buck — how funny is that. Lots of charm, worth the detour!

I really liked this place. I had the two meat plate. I chose brisket and the ribs with potato salad and slaw. The brisket had nice bark sliced thin. The ribs were spare ribs with a ton of meat on them. Since this was my first time and only meal, I have many many more things to try on the menu. They have poppers with brisket in them, I can not wait to try that on the next visit. The sides were done perfectly not too much of anything and the right mix for me. Their house sauce is a tomato honey based sauce. I am not that big of a fan of sweet bbq sauce but that is a preference not a complaint. The place is super clean with nice people working there. I will be back soon.

Outstanding. Friendly service, lots of options, and bbq is excellent. I tried the 2 meat 2 side plate with brisket, sausage, green beans, & fried okra. Everything was fresh and delicious. The sauce is sweet, smoky, and spicy all in one. Definitely come here if you’re looking for good bbq.

Some of the best barbecue brisket I have ever had in my entire life. I’ve also have their burger which is also very good. It’s a great place to eat for the locals of Willis, TX as it has a lot of local sports memorabilia on its walls. There are also TVs to watch. It is group seating on long picnic benches. The food is fast and the service is always with a smile!

Interesting situation. Lunch on a Friday. The amply sized parking lot looks like they sell pick up trucks. Tons of ‘em. There was even a P-U-T pulling a airboat on a trailer(rather than the other way’ round) sitting on the side road by the RR tracks. Every other good-old-boy for a considerable radius is at this establishment eating lunch. Zach also seems to also running a booming take-away business as I did observed a steady flow of male patrons leaving out the front door, clutching big brown bags. The building is in good shape but to call it cute is a bit of a stretch. It’s built out of prefab rafters, 1×4’s and OSB. Inside is tall open rafter ceiling and shotgun long hall with a turn to the right. This leads to a couple extra picnic tables and the baños. Walk in, read the chalkboard ahead way up on the wall. Look to the left and notice the shotgun shaped hall is spartan seating, aka, long picnic tables. To the right is the cashier who will take your order. Until it is removed /discontinued, just behind the cashiers is a smaller but easy to read chalkboard outlining the Monday through Friday lunch specials. Pretty good bargains for non BBQ entries for the hungry workers who frequent Zach’s. Lemme see: barbecue restaurant. What to order? How ’bout barbecue? Sandwiches come in two sizes; regular and large, so said the big chalkboard menu. Wife and self ordered two sliced brisket small ones, side of beans, cole slaw and stuffed jalapeños. More on them jalapeños in a moment. Let’s get the mediocre items out of the way right now. Beans are pinto, served in a Styrofoam dish with a bit of thin brown juice and are cooked done and soft. Hint of garlic flavor. Tasted«okay» when I poured a bit of BBQ sauce on top. Didn’t come close to finishing because, well, meh. Slaw was straight up cabbage with some small pretty bits of colorful stuff sprinkled in the mix. Thin /sparse mayo-type liquid clung to the styrofoam bowl and some, I suppose, to all the pieces of cabbage and«stuff.» Meh — and let this slide to the — get outta here-zone. The sandwich is delivered to the table by a young lass. She calls /bellows out your name. Throw your hand up in the air and grunt out a, «yo!» Then she’ll deliver the sandwich, sitting in a parchment paper lined plastic web basket. Smooth top bun. Flip ‘er open to see the thick slices of brisket, as described below with a ring or two of raw white onion and a slice or two of the infamous green sour pickle decorating the meat offering. That’s it. No condiment table for little extras. Zach believes. I suppose, the essentially naked sandwich is what you seek. Look upon the magnificence. Brisket is it. There is a healthy layer of bark and a respectable depth of smoke –pink. Picture evidence is before you for consideration. This stuff is honest good. Try a bit before you pour any of the BBQ sauce from the big bottle sitting on your table. Meat pulls apart easily when you bite and tug a mouthful from the sandwich. Moist and firm. Smoke definite. A bit of spice. Nothing aggressive but certainly complementary. Drizzle some BBQ sauce over the meat. A sparkle erupts in the mouth. Zach has created a very pleasing combination of star and co-star. Eat it all. Four stars. Easily. Oh. The unusual. Many eating places offer a stuffed jalapeño. Variations abound. You’ve tasted pretty much all. Here is a twist and one which is really appropriate for the restaurant. A jalapeño stuffed with BBQ beef. Who’da thunk it? Old Zack did. There is no better way to describe it: moist, saucy shredded BBQ beef stuffed into a FAT J-Pepper. Coated thick and fried REAL crisp. These peppers have not been tamed by the fire. They ARE on fire. Splendid treat. The«scene» inside is sorta mesmerizing. Lots of people eating… then standing up and walking around talking to other people. Roars of good natured laughter. Drinks in styrofoam cups, in hand and just plain roaming about. ADHD central but, again all in good cheer. I believe everyone knows everyone here at lunchtime. Signing Off

I am very impressed with this place. The brisket is tender and juicy, the coleslaw is the best i’ve ever had, and Zach did a great job with his sauce. Very impressive at these prices.

I used to eat there about every other day. Until I ordered the chopped beef potato and it tasted old. It was like it had been cooking all day. Really mushy. I figured it was a fluke so I ordered some ribs there another day and they tasted like they had been reheated. It’s sad that after they had been open for awhile and have gone down hill. I called to talk to the manager and she never returned my call. Sad.

Brisket at its finest. I had the chopped brisket on a stuffed potato, which was amazing, and the Mary’s beans(imagine chili). Wish I lived closer!

I am so tempted to give Zach’s 5 stars but it wouldn’t be fair since it’s only my first time here. I visit Conroe on a semi regular basis to see my brother n law. He has taken us to a few different places and this is the only one that really stuck out in my mind. The parking lot is big and nice so you don’t have to worry about that. The inside is super cute. It feels like any Texas BBQ joint should feel. Wooden walls, country music, picnic tables and video games in the back. They have an entire front wall covered in koozies of their regular guests. You can buy a koozie for $ 2.25, write your name on it, and hang it on the wall for the next time you’re back. The brisket was awesome. It was tender and quite a bit more than I expected for a one meat plate. There were several options for sides and I went with potato salad and coleslaw. I am picky about my coleslaw but I ate that entire thing. It wasn’t dry and gross like a lot of coleslaws can be. The potato salad was pretty great too, the only thing I didn’t like about it was that there was a huge potato chunk in the middle that wasn’t really cut up well enough. A cool thing about this place? They have $ 1 beers any time a train goes by. You should have seen my friends race to the front to get beers! It was really funny. They also have Marble Slab icecream cakes and ice cream sandwiches which I think is a pretty awesome perk. My friend got the fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich and raved about it all night. You best believe that when in Conroe, I’m eating at Zach’s.
