Keep this place confidential as you should and just keep going and enjoy everything this unique bar has to offer. From atmosphere to mixed drinks to special cocktails. Let’s be honest for someone that lives in DE this is a great place to have some quality drinks and feel like the time stopped for a while. I personally go there alone and have 2 – 3 drinks and call it a night. Keep up the good work barstaff and I ll keep coming.

The whole speakeasy unmarked locked door thing is silly. Nevertheless, Wilmington needs a nice cocktail bar: this is a valuable addition to the city. Please serve egg nog, at least during the holidays if not all the time.

Probably my favorite bar in wilm. Great place to go for a nightcap– usually has great live music, drinks are strong and tasty, atmosphere is really nice. Bartenders are great. Best, and perhaps only, speakeasy in Delaware

A great speakeasy type of bar in the Trolley Square area behind Catherine Rooney’s. They make great cocktails and have something for everyone. I love their Old Fashioneds and they do very good flips. My better half asked for a Amaretto Sour Flip and said it was the best one she ever had. Great piano music on weekends and excellent service. Some nights are busy and others you can get right in. I think of this place as a better Ranstead Room and on par with Hop Sing in Philly.

It makes me so sad to even have to write this review because I had really high hopes for this bar. I am just overall disappointed with the way we were treated by the staff here. It was my birthday on Saturday and after having an amazing dinner at Harvest in Glenn Mills we drove all the way down to Trolly because we heard that there was a very classy, low key, speakeasy type bar. My girlfriends were so excited to check it out and just have a few drinks, but when we arrived we were turned away. When we buzzed in initially a girl asked us how many people we had, we responded 4 and she turned us away, saying that their bar was full, she said to come back in a half hour, that they MIGHT have an opening then. At first I was super bummed, but I figured, with it being an exclusive type bar, maybe it WAS just full. Well as we stepped away from the door three men had left the bar. I had said to my girlfriends that maybe because they had some customers leave they could take us now. We also mentioned to the men about the employee telling us how the bar was at full capacity and they laughed, saying that there was plenty of spots open in the bar. This really upset me. We went back and buzzed them, got the same girl, and we asked if we could come in now that a few of the patrons had left(mind you it was 30-some degrees out and we were in our evening dresses). The girl declined once more, said they couldn’t take anyone else. I explained that we just saw three patrons leave, and that it was my birthday, and that it was freezing out, and just told her that we came to Wilmington for this specific bar in particular, and she still denied us. I then explained that the men who just left said the bar was nearly empty and she started stuttering, not sure what to say, and the most she could get out was that«that’s just not how we do things.» With this being said– I completely understand the concept of the bar being a speakeasy and the fact that it is supposed to give off an exclusive type bar, but asking us to come back in a half hour and not even guaranteeing us a spot in that half hour… when it’s super cold out and uncomfortable, knowing it was my birthday… knowing that they lied about the bar being full… just MAJOR disappointment. Needless to say, we did not return to try and enter the bar, why would we? I’d rather not support a local bar that could care less about their patrons comfort or happiness.

In my opinion this is the best bar in Wilmington. No dancing but a cool atmosphere, great drinks, and cute bartenders.

Great and very creative cocktails. They are a little on the pricier side but totally worth it. This place is a very intimate with dim lighting which is refreshing for Trolley Sq. I’m not sure what they are going for with their door/doorbell but anyone can get in as long as you’re 21. Their menu kind of sucks — it’s all fatty and fried bar food. All in all, I like this place and have always enjoyed myself.

This place has a really cool, relaxed vibe that you won’t find anywhere else in Trolley, and maybe not in DE. You go behind Catherine Rooney’s and get buzzed up. This is nice because they only let people up if there are enough seats, so it never gets too crowded. The décor is going for a speakeasy vibe, and they really succeed! Nice cushy chairs, and multiple spots for big groups. The drinks are great, especially if you are into whiskey. I am not a huge whiskey person, so I really like their dark and stormy. Drinks are a little more expensive, but you are getting what you pay for. You are getting a handcrafted cocktail with superior ingredients, so it’s worth the extra money. This is a nice place to either start the night, or to stay for the night if you just want a more relaxed night where you can have a conversation. One thing I do love about this place is I have never had to shout at my companions to be heard and I’m not forever yelling WHAT? at them.

Great place to go for a nightcap after dancing in Trolley Square. Drinks are wonderfully crafted. I particularly enjoy their old fashioned and mint juleps.

If you are looking for a place with style, sophistication, and makes a nice cocktail to boot, then you need to come to Hummingbird to Mars. Finding this place is not easy, but that is part of the thrill when coming to a Speakeasy for the first time. The decoration inside is nice and the ambiance is really cool, which makes this a great place to take a date for a drink. I went on a Saturday night and they had a talented piano player sporadically crooning out songs. The cocktail menu is organized by categories. They have the classic, seasonal, and signature cocktails. For my first drink I ordered The Zombie cocktail that was very good. It is a rum based drink with pineapple juice and other ingredients. I also had an Old Fashion that was right on point. The drinks are not cheap. The space is not large and fills up quickly. They do not admit entry when they are at customer capacity. I really like this place and plan to frequent it more in the future.

Great atmosphere. Reminds me places I go to in Austin or NYC. Very hipster-esque. The cocktails are pricey, but I like the changes to the menu each season. Not an every weekend place(especially if you don’t want to break the bank), but great for special occasions.

Nice spot… service was a little slow but expected with packed house. Came with a small group of friends dressed in our 1920s best. Great evening out with a twist.

Speakeasy in the Small Wonder. Nice chill spot to indulge in Prohibition era and creative drinks without the pretentiousness found in other places. Jason and his team will create tasty, well thought out and unique libations; some classic, some simple, some complex and others that will have you wondering why anyone would have thought to combine those ingredients. They have wonderful acoustic music by Bruce Anthony Thursday nights, Kevin McCove on piano Saturdays, and Sharon Sable & Q Sundays! It is located behind Catherine Rooneys. Their somewhat unmarked door faces the shopping center housing Citizens Bank, Piccolina Toscana and Brew HaHa. There is an intercom to the right of the door which you use to buzz yourself in with a password. It is one of my favorite places to relax after work and a chilled out, elegant establishment to take a date to wind down the evening and enjoy good conversation.

We just walked through the door, didnt try buzzing. You basically just walk up the stairs and in to the second door which leads to the bar. We went on a friday night and there were three people sitting at the bar. The majority of bourbon coctails are made with Bulleit Bourbon which was a bummer. Mixed drinks did look a bit too sweet overall so i opted for a beer. The décor could be pushed more in to the speakeasy style. It felt more like a spaghetti factory bar than a speakeasy. It has potential but could use a better variety of mixed drinks and definitely better bourbon for the drink pricepoint. I cant remember if there was a tv or not but I would hope not, considering this is supposed to be a speakeasy.

This bar is a gem, while still right in the heart of Trolley Square, it feels like a secret get away from the typical local bars. The ambiance is relaxed and intimate, candle light and victorian décor give it a romantic feel. Ringing the buzzer at the downstairs door which has no marking, save for a small humming bird painted on it’s exterior, gives it the flavor of a prohibition era speak easy. The staff is friendly and the drink menu is extensive and creative, not your average bar concoctions.

A nice place for a drink. It was pretty quiet when we went there. It’s hard to find if you don’t know where it is, and the address is not quite correct — you have to go to a secret backdoor and ring a bell and get let up. That was kind of fun. Inside it’s nice and pretty classy old school speakeasy style. The drinks are good though pricey. I think they might have PBRs for $ 3 but then again I could be wrong about that. Service was painfully slow initially but things picked up a bit as more waiters seemed to eventually arrive. Food is available from the bar menu of the Irish bar downstairs, which seems strangely incongruent.

I adored this place the second I saw the black door with the golden hummingbird stenciled on. I love how you ring the doorbell and they ask how many. Shortly there after a girl in a short red dress and black knee high stockings opens the door and guides you up dark candlelit staircase and into a different world. I don’t really know how to explain it but if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to hang out at a speakeasy in the 1920s or you just love fantasy, or the idea of time travel, or steam punk, or really well crafted drinks w/top shelf liquor and unique fruit infusions — then this is your place. In terms of drinks I had the monkey gland and loved it. My friend had the Side Car and barely had 2 sips before she was knocked on her butt. Drinks are expensive with reason: 1-strong and 2-quality spirits. I really hope Hummingbird’s has staying power because it really is something special :)

I made a reservation for a group of 14 people for a birthday party at hummingbird to mars last Saturday night. The service was great – they had an area in the back ready for us with glasses of water already set out for everyone. As other reviewers have mentioned, the drinks are expensive – about $ 12 each. They are also super delicious. I tried three, two from their summer seasonal menu and the Seaside was by far my favorite. It tasted sort of like a gin mojito. Their food menu is limited and is all from Catherine Rooney’s(so think pub food). I do wish they had some of their own appetizers that would pair better with the drinks. I would absolutely return here for a drink to start off the night, but dye to the pricing, would probably retreat downstairs or to one of the other bars in Trolley for a real night of drinking.

Stopped in here one random Friday night with my sis when she came to visit from the big apple. It’s so hard to find places to impress a New Yorker when you’re in the Small Wonder. Hummingbird’s chill, low-key, loungey vibe and yummy drinks did not disappoint us. The one thing that did disappoint us was the creepy creepster man who followed us to the place from a previous bar despite my sister nicely asking him to get lost… But of course this was not Hummingbird’s fault. Sis had an old fashioned and I had a Mars Blossom. We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and the experience. Drinks are pricey, but you cannot find their quality, nor a similar speakeasy atmosphere anywhere else in Wilmington. I give it 4 out of 5 stars only bc the drinks are pretty pricey. They are good sizes though, and yummy. Just a note that we stopped in after having a later dinner on a Friday night and we were told when we rang the bell that they were filled to capacity. We grabbed a Stella up the street then returned about 45 minutes later and were in with a couple others.
