This has been my favorite sushi place since I’ve started going there about 5 years ago. I’ve never had any problems with the service either. They’re always helpful and friendly from start to finish. Don’t just stop at the sushi, their dinner entrees are delicious as well!

This restaurant is CLEARLY a labor of love. Their sushi is impeccably prepared. Cooked dishes are incredibly well-balanced in flavor. I’ve eaten there several times and never eaten the same thing twice — each dish I have tried has been the best version of that dish I have ever had. Their rotating menu of sakes is impressive. If you haven’t tried this place, you are missing out on the best restaurant in North Wilmington!

Last night I and my husband went here for dinner, the ambiance was really good and the area was also nicely decorated. The waitress was very friendly. The menu card have lots and lots of options, you definitely get confused what to order. But the main thing is this place is too pricey. You can order one dish and share it but if you like to order anything more then you have to check out your pocket. Overall it was a nice experience.

Horrible service. Ordered a meal that was not as described on menu, when I politely asked to have a replacement entrée I was declined. After speaking with the manager she informed me that I would be wasteful and it’s not recommended to get a different entrée. Then she said the waiter would have to pay for the second entrée even though it was not his fault. Do not recommend coming here, and do not believe the food is good enough to withstand the intolerable service.

I would give them a 3 star for the dishes made, but I only gave 2 start because of their bad service taking phone order during lunch time. One waitress taking phone call today was impolite and rude.

Since this is a first time review, want to give it another shot before confirming. We ordered takeout Nagiri and Sushi with only Salmon and Tuna and the fish was outstanding. I repeat OUTSTANDING. Fresh as anything, like butter. A little pricey but justified considering how fresh it was

Maybe their sushi is good but other dishes are barely mediocre and overcharged. Plus I ordered for pick up and the one answered the phone is not very helpful with the menu. So no I will never ever go back again.

I’ve been going here for years, but I think we’ll go a lot less. Pros: owner is nice Unique and authentic Chinese food(though there are similar options nearby) Good sushi Wide range of dishes Cons: Food does tend to be salty/MSG. Fine if you know to expect it. Prices have been rising through the years Reason we will scale down/stop our patronage: prices are very high($ 23 for a small fish hot pot, $ 30 for sashimi A, which had about 15 pieces of sashimi). This might be okay but add to that kids drinks were $ 4 each(expensive), rice was $ 1.50 each. But the thing that really got us was the $ 1.00 charge for hot sauce. I mean come on, if your charging high fees for meals and all the little extras, don’t charge for the hot sauce. At least, the waitress could have let us know there would be a fee for it. We even questioned this when we got the bill, and she refused to remove the fee. Our meal(2 adults 2 kids) came out to $ 100, and everybody left hungry. I do prefer smaller portions, but next time we’ll probably go somewhere that doesn’t leave us feeling like we are being nickel and dimed.

The worst customer experience they will offer you! I saw the customers on next table argued with female owner that the taste for teriyaki chicken is very weird! The same female owner recommended us to order Sea Bass and yet they gave us tilapia! If you want good dinning experience, please try some other places, like Yi Palace nearby!!! —Thanks for the follow-up, Takumi, I came in on December 31st and it completely ruined my new year eve celebration. To be clear, I do not think it was due to confusion. The female owner Jessie recommended sea bass to us. So we wanted a reasonable explanation of tilapia to ensure a pleasant experience for future customers. She was very very rude and the first sentence she told us was:“we can not reduce the price for this dish.” Look, we never asked for that: we are busy people and we care pleasant experience more! Jessie never offers any apology. The only thing she tried was to convince us that Tilapia was called as Striped Bass in Japan, even chief has confirmed it is tilapia! Such a ridiculous lady!!! I am in US, not Japan, why do I care the name in Japan!!! Second, We ordered sea bass, not striped bass! Take steps to avoid this? From my experience, I believe that every action is more driven by profit!

I’ve been here many times and this is one of my favorite places for sushi in Delaware. Probably the best I’ve had in Wilmington. I usually get a few rolls and have not been disappointed yet! Service has always been pretty good and it is never too busy so you should be able to get a table with no problems!

Everything was delicious! If you haven’t been you must give it a try. We were not disappointed. I’m sorry we didn’t hear about this place sooner! An excellent selection of veggie dishes. My husband had the Orange Blossom roll and loved it.

We were charged twice for our take out order and are still waiting a week later for it to be corrected. My husband went in to pick up an order, paid for it, and waited. While he was waiting, he asked if he could have some eel sauce added to the order. The cashier brought the order with the eel sauce, and a manager followed her over to tell her that she needed to charge him an extra dollar for that sauce. Since he had already paid using his debit card, he gave her $ 1 cash. Somehow that got lost in translation, because the manager then charged our debit card again for what the new total would be had he not paid the $ 1 cash. In essence, he changed the amount on our receipt after my husband signed for it, which is illegal. Both the first charge and his updated charge are still pending on our account a week later, so I’m guessing one will drop off, but this whole debacle required hours of phone tag and a lengthy conversation once we finally found someone who spoke English to help us. Not worth the hassle, in my opinion. The person on the phone told us the second charge(unauthorized one) was the one that went through, so yes, we were overcharged $ 1. She offered us a $ 20 gift card upon return, but we probably won’t be returning.

This place is OK. but only just OK. I have eaten here several times and have tried a variety of dishes. Sushi rolls, teriyaki, tofu appetizer, miso soup and some Chinese dishes. All of it was edible but tasteless. I’m not sure how a simple eel and avocado roll or even miso soup can be tasteless but it was. Yes, the waitresses are in kimonos but it gave me more the impression of costumes then traditional dress. I’ve had sushi in Japan and major US cities and realistically I don’t expect the food here to be on that level but I would expect better than I got. I care more about food than décor or atmosphere and luckily there are other nearby places that deliver top quality Japanese food. I will be eating there, not at Takumi.(Also, I have focused on their Japanese dishes as they advertise themselves primarily as a Japanese restaurant… can’t say much about their Chinese dishes.)

Definitely one of the best sushi places in Delaware! Great service, creative sushi rolls and their hot dishes are also delicious. The orange blossom roll is one of the best rolls I’ve had anywhere. It’s a nice place to dine in, and has a great atmosphere, but they also get to take out orders very quickly.

10 of us went here for a special occasion and were not let down. I’ve had sushi many times in the area and this was the best. I love chef-owned places, you can really tell that every plate is done with precision and care. The other asian dishes we got were the fried sweet potato, the steamed buns with hoisin pork belly, and the seaweed salad. All very good. Our tab was around $ 500 but we felt it was worth it.

Updating my review to include the Omakase they have recently added. Omakase, or «I’ll leave it to you» allows you to give the chef the freedom to create a unique meal for you, and is something that all Sushi lovers(or lovers of Japanese cuisine) should try at least once. We met with Hideyuki Okubo, the owner and head chef, and discussed our likes and dislikes, favorite flavors and types of fish, and then picked a date. Also, we picked a budget ahead of time so that he knew what he could create. He will shop the day of your Omakase for freshest fish and seafood, and have everything ready when you arrive. From there, it’s 7 – 9 course of incredible one-after-the-other creations. From fresh Kumamoto oysters, to live crabs flown in from Japan, each course was not only a unique set of flavors, but beautifully presented. Some highlights were: Flying fish prepared 3 ways(sashimi, torched and grilled), Salmon liver mousse with gold shavings on top, Toro sashimi and hand rolls, 2 inch crabs that were fried and eaten whole(very interesting), a seafood soup that was presented in beautiful wine glasses, oysters with an amazing ginger sauce, a custard, a sashimi and nigiri plate and several more courses. While there are a handful of Sushi restaurants in Delaware, there is only one real Sushi chef. Hideyuki Okubo went over the top with selection and presentation, displaying the reason why his restaurant has been so popular for so long. Other restaurants in Delaware offer what they call«Omakase» but all they do is just bring you a few courses of items they already have. Hideyuki Okubo creates a menu that is served for one time only, just for you.

Friends of ours brought us here for dinner the other weekend. Let’s take a minute and talk about the décor. Straight out of China, topped off with the traditional outfits worn by the staff. Overall opinion… sushi has something to be desired but the Chinese was good! Unimpressed with the sushi menu and even more unimpressed with the rolls we managed to scrape up and order. The Chinese however, I thought was very good! Big portions and tons of entrees to choose from. Would definitely return for some Chine-ree!

Excellent, authentic Japanese cuisine! Way more authentic and delicious than some of its nearby competitors(looking at you, Le Shio). Graded on a curve, would be 4 stars in NYC or LA, but 5 stars considering the suburban locale. Here’s a short list of what I had and what stood out: — Very authentic, the head chef /owner, is Japanese — They pay attention to the rice, which is nicely marinated. Yet, they’re still flexible, and offer brown rice for the health nuts — Wasabi is not the fresh type, however, they apply it correctly underneath each piece of fish over the rice in their sushi — first time I’ve seen that in the Philadelphia ‘burbs! — Delicious and eclectic menu, some highlights include hamachi kama(omg, served with a teryiaki sauce, beyond decadent), and some off-menu items, such as chutoro(so creamy), ankimo(rare), and anago(sea eel, more delicious and delicate than the freshwater, unagi variety) — Gets fish flown in from Japan on Tuesdays; by dinner lots of rare items prepped and ready to rock n’ roll — Fresh ginger, real crab(can request over imitation), and homemade tamago(not the bland, processed kind) round out the deal — Elegant, yet not stuffy environment — Good, pleasant service with knowledgeable staff — Not crazy about the foray into Chinese dishes but I can countenance the pandering to the disheveled masses
