Love everything about this place! Steve, the proprietor is friendly, funny and knows his way around a brisket!

Wanted to explore and try new BBQ. Came across this place and was excited because of cute authentic look. Briefly looked at the menu to decide what I wanted, but felt negative vibes from the woman taking my order. She rolled her eyes when I was trying to look at the menu, and basically had an attitude while trying to order. Food was alright and a limited menu.

Great barbecue sauce with a whang to it! The brisket is great smoked. The potato salad is yummy. It’s a simple place with old fashioned Texas style meat & hospitality.

We ride through Wimberley regularly and didn’t know this place existed(I found it on Unilocal). Great homey décor, very reasonable prices, and a nice change of pace from the more«touristy» places in town. Plus, nobody can resist BBQ! If you can, I’m sorry for you. Had a couple of Bar-Burrito’s which were excellent. A combination of my favorite food groups; brisket, cheese, and beans. Nothing fancy, just good flavor, and 2 were enough to fill me up which was a bit of a surprise. The real test however, was I bought one rib for my taster(my son, a self proclaimed BBQ expert). He said it was excellent, therefore it was! :) Next road trip through Wimberley will include a stop at Miss Mae’s.

Paid a visit to Jacobs Well and then found ourselves in Wimberley for a late lunch. We were craving BBQ and found just the right place at Miss Mae’s. Met the original owners grandson who was as nice as could be, even offering up a sample of his fried fish. Brisket sandwich was very filling and quite delicious! I would definitely recommend stopping there if you are in the area. And their peach cobbler ain’t too bad either! Yum!

The people were very nice. You get a lot of food, unfortunately it’s not very good. The sausage was very dry and appeared to be several days old. The ribs were tough but the brisket was tender. Came here on a recommendation from one of the shop in Wimberly Square, I don’t think she’s ever had good barbecue in her life if this is the best barbecue she has ever eaten.

Love this place! They have one of the best turkey BBQ sandwiches, a hefty serving of meat, and their cole slaw is my fav! I’ve been here several times-always order the same thing-as it’s always so good. I don’t have to trim the fat off the turkey like some of the other BBQ places which are much larger and much more expensive. I choose this place every time I come to Wimberley! And the staff are very friendly too!

Very chewy brisket sandwich, but for the price it was decent. Will give it one more shot, maybe I caught them on bad day.

I’ve lived in Wimberley for 4 years and I finally decided to check this place out. I really wish I hadn’t. My go to item is always a pulled pork sandwich topped with cole slaw. This was the absolute worst sandwich I have ever tried. The pork tasted like crock pot juice water. I took about two bites and went to the counter to order something else. I got the sliced brisket sandwich and topped it with cole slaw. The brisket had no flavor, no smokiness. Just bland. I finished it but tomorrow I’ll go find something with flavor to help forget that taste. I chose two stars because of the price and they have a nice venue. The pulled pork went to the dogs. They did enjoy it.

I’m not convinced all the meats are cooked fresh daily. Very disappointed when I found out the potato salad is made from frozen potatoes. Was led to believe the potato salad was homemade from his grandmother’s recipe only to be told by owner that they purchasefrozen potatoes and put the dressing on them. Not homemade by my definition! Hamburger basket was good.

Very average BBQ in the beautiful town of Wimberley. Would’ve gone to Rufino’s, but it was closed. Brisket was smokey, but tough and on the dry side — they hurried it… Where the food was lacking they proceeded to not make up for it in customer service. A bit like the soup nazi…

There stuffed baked potatoes are awesome !! Perfect if you are really hungry. Huge amount. They definitely need to work on customer service. No one ever smiles. Not friendly either. Good sauce. Everything I’ve eaten here has been pretty tasty.

If you walk in and the owners are sitting down talking to friends at a table, be prepared to feel like you are interrupting them with your business. Oh, and surely don’t ask for anything crazy like an ice refill if you don’t want to get a «look». Mediocre Q and lousy service. Skip it

I dare anyone to find more food for seven bucks +/-anywhere in this town — and it’s a damn fine brisket stuffed spud. Excellent chopped BBQ, good sauce, tons of onions and cheese and one very plump and well done(perfectly) Idaho spud. Thanks Miss Mae — ya made my day

It’s meat in Wimberley and that’s what makes it acceptable. The BBQ here is average, nothing to write home about but hey, it’s BBQ in Wimberley! If you’re tired of all the chick food or Brookshire Brothers meals, it’s worth a stop.

Great food, really interesting atmosphere, and the owner was a pleasure to visit with. The barbecue sauce was good and sweet, but honestly the ribs didn’t even need it. My favorite menu item was the beans. If you’re a deer hunter, you’ve gotta check out the mounts they have on the wall.

Amazing BBQ! They have their smokers right on site! Great portion size for the price and I can’t rave enough about the good flavor! My boyfriend(at the time) and I stopped in here while on a weekend vacation in Wimberley and it was to die for! The owner was so sweet, he came over and told us all about the history of the restaurant and what they have going on on different days! I was so disappointed that I was full because I really wanted to finish my entire plate! I am super picky about my coleslaw and I have to say this is some of the best slaw I have had in Texas! I will definitely be back and I am going to try to make it to their steak night special nights as well! Thank you so much and see you all soon! Wow!

Ignore the negative reviews please and give it a try for yourself. The salt lick is NOT better BBQ unless you prefer every protein to taste exactly the same because its drenched in a vinegar BBQ sauce! Real BBQ doesn’t come with sauce on it! Miss Maes is a much friendlier and personable establishment where you can distinguish the brisket from the pork because they actually have their own flavor. To sum it up: I wouldn’t rate the Salt Lick in the top 50BBQ joints in the greater Austin area based on taste, whereas Miss Maes would easily break my top 10.

Solid Hill Country barbecue, with a no-nonsense counter service. Brisket was above average, and the sausage was more peppery than usual(a good thing). Beans had a nice spicy kick without the usual sweetness, a nice change. Even received an impromptu history of the venue from the owner, and a tour of the pits. For barbecue nuts that was a real treat. Highly recommended and since its not in the town square, it’s easy to get parked and seated here.
