It really breaks my heart to give this place 3 stars. My only reason for doing so is because of the horrendous wait time. Now, in all fairness it was a little after noon time and this location is in Windsor’s notorious industrial/business area so all the business folk and gym rata from Gold’s flock to this location looking for a sammie fix. Today, my reason was no different. I always forgot how ahead of the game Blimpie is over Subway. I walked out paying $ 6 for a hearty Ham and Swiss on white bread today, included were chips and a drink. I always feel hungry after I eat at Subway but with Blimpie, they have substance. Fresh, sliced lunch meat. Loads of toppings and dressings for salads and sandwiches. The service here is stellar. It was streamlined and thorough — I was asked how I was, what kind of sandwich I wanted, I was chatted up a bit and the young girl at the register thanked ME for coming in. The quality, freshness, service and cleanliness of this locale is on point with 5 stars however, I spent close to TWENTY minutes waiting in line. It was really, really chaotic. I will come back again. The wait will not deter me and I believe in 2nd chances, especially because it was at lunch time.

One of my choices for lunch during the week. Can get busy right around 12:30 but otherwise the staff is friendly and prices are good.

I went to the Day Hill Road Blimpies yesterday to get one of their $ 5(now $ 6) subs since I was in the area. I normally go to Subway and get their $ 5(now $ 5.50) cold Cut Combo with the ‘works’ and mayo. The Subway grinder is good value for $ 5.50 and the quality is… ok. At Blimpies I got their Ham, Salami and Provolone sub with the ‘works’ and mayo(minus red & sweet peppers). The quality was quite good; great for the price. Although it is just a cold cut grinder like the one from Subway the bread was noticeably better and the veggies were piled high and fresh. Like subway, there is little meat and cheese on the sub. The staff was very polite and the store was clean and surprisingly unbusy at 5:30PM on a weekday. Even the bathrooms were spotless. I think I found my new sub shop in Windsor. EDIT: The cheapest large sub is now $ 6.00; more than subway. Minus one star.

Had a nice lunch today. The variety of grinders and wraps and salads is well known– very good selection –everything looked very fresh. I had an Ultimate Club salad– an OK portion of greens with a cut up roll of ham/turkey/cheese and 2 small strips of bacon. Very solid for what it was. The interior of this place is gigantic– looks like they are undergoing some sort of expansion so business must be good. I liked the way the manager started to ask about the next order in line as he was wrapping up the order he was working on, it really kept the line moving. All in all, not a bad place for lunch in an a neighborhood that has very little choices at all.

OK. Am I REALLY going to review, yet another, sandwich shop? Hell yes, I am! And I’m doing it proudly! Am I going to REALLY give a sandwich shop 4 stars? Hell yes, I am! Here is why. Blimpie has such a good, fresh sandwich compared to. you know… the other place. The bread is so moist and the meat… they give you meat at this place! In addition, the owner of this place is the first guy in the serving line making sure everyone is happy and getting what they want. When I am in a hurry and want a good deli sandwich, I will pick this place over the«other» place each and every time — hands down.

Ok, this may seem a bit weird for me, reviewing a Blimpie that isn’t even in Unilocal’s listings, but bear with me. First, $ 5 footlongs. And they’re generally better than Subway although I’m not really a Subway hater. Second, I went in the other night after driving through the slushy, icy, snowy roads of West Hartford and the dude behind the counter was really cool and conversational and friendly in the best possible way. If only all fast food joints had guys like this working the counter. Third, it’s in the same building as Mototown USA which is a huge motorsports arena where people drive around big dirt tracks on bikes and other assorted things that go VRooom! Ok, so I know nothing about this sort of thing but it is pretty cool that you can grab a sandwich and then walk out the back of the store and watch some guys on motorcycles flying around in the air. 3 stars for Blimpies in general I think, but this one is remarkable for the workers and setting.
