The place has changed owners so the menu will change also as it becomes Union Jack’s. Ordered the fish tacos and they were fresh and tasty. They have a root beer beer also which is quite good. I’ll be back to try more menu items.

OK Let me start off by saying I came here for investigative purposes only. I have read that Pepper jacks had a superior beer menu to Johns(across the street) AND the«best fish tacos in the area» …and let it be known, I love both great beer and great fish tacos. I found neither here:( The fish tacos were certainly a decent offering. The fish was lightly breaded, well cooked. Slaw was crunchy, and sauce was there, but neither the fish or slaw could overcome the«adobo powder» which translated into a salt bomb. Perhaps mine was over-seasoned, and again just read salt, with no heat. I also tried the shrimp taco which was lackluster at best. It is a shame they got away from their Tex Mex origins… Beer? Definitely a better selection than your typical Mexican restaurant with only Mexican brews on hand, but they had just a few bottles to offer and of those, only 2 half way decent offerings in my taste range, Decent atmosphere, but nothing is calling me back.

We had a great experience at PepperJacks. They had good food and a great selection of beers. The pulled pork was yummy and the steak fajitas were delish! Defiantly going back. The bartender Mario was super friendly and knew his beer!

We went to Pepper Jacks on a Saturday night. The bartender/owner Mario is amazing! So friendly and he knows so much about beer its insane! he has an awesome selection — I told him what kind of beer I like and he picked one out — it’s my new fave. It’s the Bouvelard Wheat. We ordered food — the guac wasnt my favorite but the enchiladas and tacos were good. As much as I loved this place I feel like it sorta has an identity crisis. With all the knowledge that Mario about beer this place should totally be a pub but it is set-up to be a Mexican restaurant. The décor needs to be updated. I also wish the bar stools had backs on them. That being said the bar is still awesome. They have TV’s and will flip to whatever sporting event is on that you would like to watch. Will def be back for beers some grub and a hawks or bulls game.

They had AMAZING nachos! They are under new ownership recently, we haven’t been there in the past couple of months. We ate there two times before the management change and we were more than pleased this would have been a five star for sure! Then we went two times after the change, there was a lot less selection with the added bbq on certain days… bbq at a mexican restaurant… it is clearly an issue with not understanding what is appropriate or the desperate attempt at getting more business. Everything with the business changed with the ownership change. I think the new owners may have little to no restaurant experience. We haven’t had a desire to go back since our last visit there. Our last two visits the service was S.L.O.W. There was one waitress, the owner, her son(I believe) and who ever was in back. The owner did a LOT of talking but NOT a lot of working. She did make a drink that was COMPLETELY wrong… we were more than buzzed off of one. She didn’t bring food out which would have lessened the wait time, she didn’t clean tables, she talked… clearly she will have a hard lesson to learn. We were severely disappointed with our last visit. We probably would have eaten here a lot more often since they are almost in walking distance but the lack of experience from management, the lack of food quality and the ODD addition of the UNNECESSARY bbq has left us finding other favorite local food.

Had a great time with family at Pepper Jacks. They have a great beer selection… including Gumball Head and Not Your Dads Root Beer on draft. Service from Shea was great. Food was awesome as well. Portions were perfect. Were the only table in the place on a Sunday afternoon and usually staff could care less about that ‘one table’ but that was far from what happened here. Will definitely be back… by the way… I love their chips… not greasy at all.

This establishment has gone through some recent changes with new ownership. I have been their twice with friends since the change of hands, and have been sadly disappointed. The previous specials are no longer available, and multiple items have been removed from the menu. $ 1 Taco Tuesdays(YUM!) are a thing of the past. Last night I ordered a chicken salad that was lacking any flavor. It was basically iceberg lettuce, shredded poached chicken, and a sprinkle of black beans and cheese. I figured with and $ 8 charge it would have a bit more to it. A few friends ordered quesadillas that were LOADED with raw onions and served with a scoop of bland rice. Upon our first visit after the change, we were approached by the owner. She seemed very nice, but unfortunately that doesn’t make the food good. I think with some new items on the menu, or at least an a la cart menu might help… but we’ll see.

I had an awesome time here with my friend’s last weekend. Not only were the prices great, but we got to watch Star Wars & Men in Black. I can’t think of a better way to spend my Saturday night. :)

Very nice surprise in the blink of an eye known as downtown Winfield. John’s will always be a landmark and destination for a visit to Dupage county hospital and/or county offices but Pepper Jacks is a great mix in as a change of pace. The shredded chipoptle chicken hard shell tacos were fantastico and their chips and salsa were worth the margarita all by themselves. They did it right here and I quickly followed with a second visit that left NO disappointment!

Pepper Jack’s was quite a treat! While driving back from the Aurora Outlet Mall, my sister and I were looking to try somewhere new to eat. We took the back way to Bartlett and used the Unilocal app to find a spot in Winfield. Pepper Jack’s popped up and after a thorough review of their online menu(which is a little different than the printed one), we headed there without another thought. We parked like rock stars right in front of one of their two entrances, but I can see how minimal parking could be an issue here. On a cold Sunday afternoon, we wandered in to find the regulars lined up at the bar in their Chicago Bears jerseys. No one was in the dining area. We panicked. Then, we realized that we were too late for lunch and probably too early for dinner. After a prompt greeting, we sat down and got our bearings. Here’s what we ended up doing. We split chips and guacamole to start, chili was actually for my sister(but she was kind enough to share a few spoonfuls with me), she ordered the creamy cheesy enchiladas and added chicken while I ordered the sizzling fajitas plate. Here are my thoughts… Guacamole was very good. Not mushed to an unrecognizable mess. The flavor was spot on and not too spicy. The chips were homemade. The salsa did not automatically arrive, but was not an issue when we asked for it. My sister mixes the salsa and guacamole together. She was thrilled! I thought the salsa was just okay. Maybe it was the tomatoes. I’m not really sure. The chili was fabulous!!! It just looks like mom’s ground beef chili, but the seasoning filled each bite deep with flavor. I ended up ordering a portion to go. It was served with true oyster crackers and was one of the best things on the table. Cath’s enchiladas were very good. The large chunks of white meat chicken were a welcome surprise. I only had one bite and I liked it a lot. She will likely give a more in depth analysis in a future Unilocal review. My fajitas. The corn tortillas were dry. That was the only thing that I was truly disappointed in. The quality and quantity of steak, chicken and shrimp were top notch. The fajitas were actually served sizzling which made me a happy camper. The side of rice was more than adequate. I had a large enough serving to have a nice reheated lunch the next day. Details to note? Pepper Jack’s is owned by a woman. My sister called it and then when we asked our super nice server, she confirmed that detail. You can tell. The details are lovely. Purse hooks and an immaculate bathroom were tell tale signs. It was crazy cold in there! I wasn’t a fan of that, but it’s basically glass walls and two doors. What do you expect? I’d wear layers on my next visit. I’d also probably warm up with a cocktail or two and be a bit warmer. The cost was reasonable. And it really isn’t that far from home. I anticipate that I will be going back very soon with the hubby in tow, too!

Finally checked this place out. I have to say I really enjoyed my meal. The waitress/bartender was very nice. I had thier fish tacos and I really enjoyed them. Next time I may try asking for the tartar sauce on the side… only because I think it would be better with a little less sauce. But really good. It’s a hard choice between John’s fish tacos across the street. They are really good, as well!!! Only complaint… is I was hoping they would have a calendar of events(specials) for example Tuesday nights are ½ of Ultimate Margaritas. Looking for an excuse to have a Girls night out for ½ price margs. but they don’t have it in writing anywhere? Oh well… The homemade chips are greasy, but good. These are they way my mom makes our tacos. fried. Try out the fish tacos!

I had a nice lunch here. The food was very flavorful and the service was very attentive without being annoying. The portrions were very generous, you could eat ½ and save the rest for another meal. Yes, the chips are different than the kind you buy in the store, but it’s a restaurant!

We were a little skeptical after reading the reviews for Pepper Jack’s, but I made the executive decision to give it a shot. I’m glad we did! The chips and salsa were exactly what all the other reviews said: greasy and bland. Greasy, but with a good salty flavor. I had a the pulled pork wrap, which was really good. Tender pulled pork, a sweet bbq sauce, cilantro lime slaw, and cheddar cheese swaddled lovingly in a tortilla, served with fries. My sis in law had the fish tacos, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The big brother had a salad, which he also liked. Over all the food was really good. The décor is really perfect for this kind of place. It’s clean, looks brand new, dim lighting, gecko’s as art all over the walls, and a decent amount of TVs for watching sports. Looks like the have a good size outdoor seating area when the weather permits. I’m not sure how loud the nearby train gets when you’re out there, but it did come by twice while we were there. The service was mostly nice. The first woman to help us was smiley and cheerful, then her evil twin took over, no more smiles, no more cheerful. She got the job done, but she didn’t seem pleased about it. Overall, I’d gladly go back to Pepper Jack’s if I’m in the area again. To be honest, I’m not really sure where we were, some suburban downtown along the Metra line. But next time we’re there, I’ll suggest Pepper Jack’s.

Nice atmosphere. Restaurant is clean. The chips are bad — very greasy with a Crisco aftertaste. The salsa is a bland watery mess. Guacamole was good and helped cover the taste of the chips. We thought their redeeming dish was going to be the stuffed jalapeño peppers that were grilled to perfection and seasoned wonderfully. They found a way to kill this otherwise perfect dish by covering it with a cheap Velveta type sauce that screamed canned dip. I wanted to enjoy it but couldn’t.

One of the best restaurants in the suburbs. Owner and servers all know what customer service is all about. The food is excellent, the games are always on the large screen monitors and the beverages are reasonably priced. Also, if you are coming from around the suburbs or even from downtown Chicago, the METRA stops there. Convenient for a lot of reasons. I promise you will not be disappointed. I take my wife and family there often and it is a family friendly enviornment. Jim McCurdy

We waited a bit to give Pepper Jack’s a try to let them work out the kinks but I’m sorry to say that overall there was nothing that would make me want to come back anytime soon. The waitstaff seams nervous for lack of a better word to describe it. Does the owner beat them in the back if they screw something up? It was not just our waitress but others I witnessed as well. Relax we are just serving casual food & drink after all. They all seam to be in a big rush for no obvious reason. The food. Greasy shinny chips are the first things to great you. Guacamole was pretty tasteless and you had to eat it with the grease laden chips to boot. One chip was actually chewy and inedible, Fish tacos where actually pretty good, the rest we all had was just OK. I think they are going to need to do a few changes in order to make it long term.

First time here we had the tacos, they were really good. We really enjoyed the Twisted Pinapple drink and the red sangira was very tasty . The 2nd time here, we had the fajitas, again, very good . We also tried the nacho platter, which was very ‘thrown together’ would not order that again . The margarita chicaken sandwich was also very good . Both times, we were able to talk with Heather the owner. She was very nice and was very open to feedback ! We will be regulars at this place all summer !! –Frank
