$ 16 Macaroni and Cheese. I asked twice on the phone for no mushrooms. When I was picking up my order I asked the waitress who took my order of there were mushrooms… she said there shouldn’t be… which wasn’t very reassuring but I didn’t check my order because I had faith in the simple task of taking an order. I got all the way home only to open my food and see mushrooms sprinkled on top and mixed in the macaroni and cheese. One of the most expensive items on the menu you should check this order before bagging it. I called and asked for a refund on my macaroni and the tip that I gave the waitress. She should of done a quality check to deserve the tip. And for her response to be it happens have a good night. Thank you I will by taking my service elsewhere.

So, I had pretty much written this place off… I got a Mac and Cheese when I joined my husband for dinner a year ago and it was so rich and seemed such a weird mix of favors. I didn’t get it and neither did he. But I tried it for lunch recently and WOW… my head has turned! I had the BEST grilled cheese and tomato soup I’ve ever had. And the dip they serve with the fries is like crack… So dang good! Dropped a star because the service can be slow, even when it’s not busy, but don’t let that deter you from giving this place a try!

Last night my husband and I were watching TV coverage of the NH Primaries when two of the commentators indicated they were in a heated personal debate as to which local eatery there served the best open-faced turkey sandwich. Weirdly, the mere mention of that struck an immediate nerve with both of us and left us with a craving to find and consume the best hot turkey sandwich in the Burlington area that very evening. We searched the online menus of various restaurants and purely on a whim, decided we’d try Our House Bistro in Winooski, a place we’d never before patronized. Well, as if the fates themselves had intervened, we ended up finding and devouring the very best open-faced turkey sandwich either of us had ever eaten. What a wonderful surprise! We will definitely be back to sample other comfort food selections from their unique and diverse menu. Five stars, for sure!

If this were my house I would be homeless. I arrived with a guest and we stood at the desk waiting to be seated. The staff in the back were looking at us and back to the kitchen. Finally we were approached and told the kitchen wasn’t closed yet and we were seated. Water was brought to the table and the waitress did not even look at us. She returned and asked if we were ready to order, we asked for another minute to decide. She guffawed and walked away. She returned to take our order only when we called her and again she didn’t look at the faces and when we ask for some clarification she did not respond. It was so disagreeable that we canceled our order and left. So, while I can’t comment on the food this is not the first time I’ve been treated poorly at this restaurant. Just plain rude!

This one is difficult… if Unilocal were just about food, Our House Bistro would be a five-star experience. Each of two times I’ve eaten here, the food has been incomparably delicious, the ultimate comfort food the way mom would have made it if she thought she could sneak blue cheese and bacon into our soup without our fussing that crumbled food bits look nasty. However, the atmosphere and service also get rated, right? So, atmosphere is uneven… on our first visit, the acrid smell of an upstairs tenant’s cigarette scented the entire restaurant. But that’s somewhat forgivable. Old buildings have lots of character… doors that hang crookedly, creaking floors and smells. The wait staff was terrific on our first visit. The second one, not so much. Our food(awesome grilled cheese, super-tangy tomato/basil soup, fries, butternut soup with apple, bacon & blue cheese) got cold as we watched our server eat her own meal in the kitchen while simultaneously talking on the phone. It must’ve been an important call because she continued to talk on the phone whilst waiting on us. She bussed my son’s lemonade, which was still 1⁄3 full but left our water glasses empty after we drained them. Not too sharp on the cleanliness either… the table next to us had someone’s lunch mess on it for half of our meal. Still, the food is very, very good. The décor’s funky 1960s, 70s and 80s lunch boxes, posters and magazines stir memories(and emotions) the way pop culture does – thank heavens the comfort food is there to make us feel all better even though Bobby Sherman didn’t marry us and we had to grow up and get real about how hard life is without the magic of youth to shield us. Go to Our House Bistro during off hours if you want to get a quick seat at a table. Chances are you’ll get a great meal, but service may be spotty.

I LOVE Our House. I tend to get Mac and cheese pretty much every time I go here, they have so many options that I’m trying to get everything that appeals to me. Favorites so far are the pulled pork Mac and cheese and the lobster Mac and cheese.

If you want lots of options for lunch this is a great menu for you! Like 20+ varieties of Mac and cheese that all sounded awesome and are served straight from the oven. I had the open face turkey sammy and it was huge and also tasty! My friend had the Reuben which was also super good and came with perfect fries.

A great place, friendly service, and fun to just look around at the décor and chat about the nostalgia. The Irish eggrolls are super yummy, and get two thumbs up from my Irish hubs. We’ve come here a couple times and we’ve twisted our own Mac and twisted our burgers, and haven’t met anything on the menu not worth bragging about. Our House is a very very fine house, and a MUST go to in the Onion City.

Absolutely delicious — PB& J Mac and cheese — YESPLEASE! The wait time can be cray for a table, but it is a smaller restaurant with a great following. You can call ahead or stop in and out your name on the wait list, then they will call your cell phone when your table is free!!!

I had a terrific meal. Nice bartender and great food. The«open face turkey sandwich» was not really a sandwich. It’s a huge plate of roasted white meat turkey over bread, covered with real gravy and a mound of smashed Redskin potatoes. Way more than I can eat. $ 12! Excellent! Friend had«the best BLT ever!»

Growing up in a family that doesn’t really make mac n cheese, Our House is bomb fantastically cheesy for me! My best friend loves their buff chick mac cuz of the wing that tops it. she gotten it 4⁄4 times she’s been. Me? The first time I tried the polynesian… cheese, savory and sweet at the same time. Also they mixed cucumbers into it. which usually I hate warm cucumbers but they made it work like it totally belonged in there! The flavors just somehow work together! I also ordered a root beer float that the waitress said they didn’t exactly have a menu entry, but she tweeked some stuff and voila– A float in a mason jar! The second time I got the jambalaya mac, being that I’ve visited NOLA a handful of times and you can taste an essence of the French quarter. Part like southern comfort cheese and part like their souvenir store Cajun spice mix… just imagine a cheesy Jackson square with a little kick. I’ve never had anything else besides their float and mac but they made a good choice in the noodle they use!

Our House features comfort food – not the most healthy place to eat, but hey, every now and then that’s just fine. The food is always delicious! It’s usually packed – which speaks to how good it is. There are a ton of mac n’ cheese varieties and every one I’ve tried is great. The Irish Eggrolls are creative and taste great! Most recently I tried the Cobb Salad – it was fairly basic but a big portion. The drinks could use some more umph. The atmosphere is nice, but they only have high-top tables(unless you eat in their outdoor seating area) – I absolutely hate high-top tables – so, there’s that, but otherwise a good solid dining experience.

I had been meaning to stop in here since they took this small spot from another great local eatery. We only stopped in for drinks and desserts but I was totally impressed. The décor is whimsical and cozy. Walls are lined with classic rock albums and sleeves along with old novelty lunch boxes(Six Million Dollar Man! I had that one!). The service was quick and friendly. We got a nice seat at the window and enjoyed the view of downtown Winooski. I had a Ball canning jar of Dan’s Winooski Sour and a Vermont Mud Pie for dessert which was tasty but very frozen. I would like to try them for lunch or dinner sometime. They also have nice outdoor seating capacity as well. I do have to say that the bathroom is VERY tiny, almost as small as an airplane restroom, maybe SMALLER!

So glad I had an excuse to finally try this place! I had the fish tacos– light & tasty. My mom had the lobster sandwich– she said the lobster was perfect but the roll was a little much for her– she’s not a big eater these days. I would go back in a heartbeat to try one of the many twisted comfort foods on the menu– I wished we were with a larger party so I could taste more menu items!

We had dinner here two nights while in Burlington on a motorcycle trip. If I was just basing it on the first night it would be closer to 4 stars. We both had mac n cheese dishes which I admit were excellent. I thought a bit pricey for what you got, but the taste was spot on. Second night we wanted something different so we both ended up ordering rib eye steak. We both ordered them rare to medium rare, more on the rare side. Both steaks came out pretty much well done(no pink. over cooked). I will say the flavor of the steaks with the gorgonzola cheese and bacon was pretty good, but you order a rare steak and get a well done? Admittedly, we were hungry so we just started eating. As we were outside we didn’t see the waitress until we had probably eaten 1⁄3 of the steak. Then the usual«How is everything tasting». I showed her the steak(as did my buddy) and said they were pretty well done for a rare steak. I expected something. not really a fresh steak as I should have complained as soon as I got it, but it was late and I was hungry, but something… She said«Oh, I’m sorry» and walked away… (shrug). We did not go back for another night while we were in Burlington. I would not return here. They get three stars for combination of night 1 and night 2. Had I been judging them by night 2 it would 1 – 2 stars. Try the mac n cheese. Pretty good. Pricey but good.

I had a few previous experiences here that have been fine, but my last visit was highly unpleasant. Our group was seated immediately, and waited a few minutes for our server to greet us. She took our order when we were ready and we waited a bit for our food. It was after this that our server seemed to vanish. I got one of the special mac and cheeses, which was bland but not bad. Just nothing too exciting. Our water glasses were empty for a great deal of the time we were there and we sat with empty plates in front of us for a LONG time, waiting to order dessert. When the server finally reappeared, she dropped the check and vanished again before we had a chance to clarify that we wanted to add to our order. We figured we’d wait for her to come back before doing so, but it took her so long that we decided just to pay. There were three of us and when we tried to tell her what food we wanted on which card(which wasn’t difficult, as there were three items for three customers), she was clearly frustrated that we wanted the check split. Overall, one of the worst service experiences I’ve had. It is absolutely unacceptable to ignore customers for so long and then to act rudely toward them when they make a simple request. I hate writing harsh reviews, but this was something that made me and my dining partners not want to return again.

Great comfort food. I have visited on several occasions and the food has been delicious every single time. Their wings are great, as is the spinach and artichoke appetizer. Most recently, I tried a burger and it to was amazing. I’m anxious to try one of their MANY macaroni and cheese options which always look appealing on other people’s plates. Give the Irish Eggrolls a shot!

Came here for brunch and it MUCH better than the other time. The only minor problem was the Hostess who gave misinformation regarding wait time. Anyway, we were seated after about 5 mins from waiting at the bar(bartender was great, she let my bf try a Coffee beer before purchase). The waitress was extremely nice. She checked on us and took our food promptly. The food took about about 15mins to come, but with the great service it was worth the wait. We ordered the Chicken Pot pie and Hungry Man breakfast. It was wonderful! Everything was cooked to perfection. When it was time for the check, the waitress wrapped up my food and dated it . Definitely a upgrade from the last time !

Man, it’s tough to stand out in Vermont when you’re surrounded by sooo many delectable and local options. Our House is definitely a cozy, intimate, hipster kind of a spot in Burlington’s little sister to the north, Winooski, and is located on the cute little ‘Nooski town square/roundabout thing. They don’t take reservations, and there’s not really any room inside to stand(or sit — unless there’s room at the bar) while you wait for your table to be ready, but they will text you or call you when your table is available, which allows you to go next door for a drink at Mule Bar while you wait. The décor is cute and funky; there are old lunch boxes and funny vinyl records all over, plus various fun books you can peruse while you’re waiting for your food. As previously mentioned, the space inside Our House is very cramped, so be prepared to get cozy with not just your immediate friends and dining companions, but those around you. If you’re visiting the bathroom, get ready to do some acrobatics :) Service was very spotty, and they seemed to be somewhat understaffed. Receiving drinks and appetizers took quite a while relative to when our entrees appeared. We did have rave reviews about the nachos; those were the highlight of our visit to Our House. Good chip-to-cheese-to-toppings ratios, and no soggy or sad chips leftover at the end. Chili was also delicious; I believe they waver between a venison choice and a bison choice, and probably a vegetarian option as well. We also chose Our House because it catered to a macaroni and cheese loving friend, but also to her vegan husband, with several vegan options. Out of all the truly memorable and delightful places I visited for sustenance while in VT, Our House just doesn’t stand out on its own. It’s definitely A-OK, and they do have a wide variety of menu items at pretty reasonable prices, but I don’t think you’ll be blown away.
