Monkey House makes us happy; a great divey bar with great beer. Many advised us to go up the road to Mule Bar(and we have visited there), but we really enjoy Monkey House. It’s a chill, low key, eclectic vibe. There’s a diverse crowd, with a plethora of Maine Beer beers on tap(they have a distinct account which affords them access to Maine Beer Co beers no one else in VT will have). Every bartender we’ve encountered has been awesome and knowledgable about beer and the local area. When we visit Burlington(and make a side trip to Winooski; a cheap Über ride away, FYI), this is always a must visit. DISCLAIMER: we are always here in daytime hours, so we can’t speak to the nightlife vibe.

A friend brought me to this local watering hole. Pool tables and a stage set up back for local bands. I enjoyed a mystery cocktail, as the bartender asked me what I like and he’d make me something special. Lillet, apperol, dark rum, white rum, champagne, grapefruit soda, lemon twist, lime. The bartender with the curly blond hair was friendly and greeted me by name. Excellent service. Don’t be underwhelmed by the regulars just sitting around and talking story, they are creative and inventive.

Love this place. I’ve been at night for great intimate music performances and DJing from Disco Phantom(he’s awesome), I’ve been in the afternoon to play pool. And I’ve been in the morning while waiting for brunch at Sneakers. Casual. «Hipster». Friendly. Plaid abounds. They get great bands. I love the vibe. So happy Monkey House is a fixture in Winooski.

Went in with my boyfriend to have a couple beers because it was much less crowded than the bar next door. We sat for a good hour enjoying ourselves in the quiet before a girl came over and told us, «if you’re staying for the band it’s an extra $ 3/person». Well, okay… we didn’t even know there was going to be a band playing, and isn’t that something you ask of the people at the door who are just arriving? Is she going around to all the existing patrons playing pool and hanging out and asking for money? Never in my life have I been to a bar that does that. We asked the bartender about it and all he said was, «You’re in a music venue. Those are the RULES.» Very classy. Actually… very tacky and extremely poor customer service. I suppose they must not pay the band, otherwise they wouldn’t have to extort more money from bar customers. We left.

Cool place to hang out, and it feels very neighborhood-y. They’ve got pool and some board games, occasional live music, a couple screens, lots of seating at the bar, but also some tables, and a decent selection of beers and ciders. And there was a guy reading one time so that was kinda cool. If I lived nearby, it’d be my go-to.

Live local entertainment but this bar smells like rotten sulfur either the bartender is spraying it or they don’t clean the taps either way it’s a winooski dive bar with interesting shows.

Love the Monkey! Such a rad variety of events and swell bar staff. I only wish they were a little bigger, the louder shows tend to be really muddy in the cramped space. One of the best places to book or see a new band, they’re very open and draw reasonable crowds.

Great little bar with a thriving live music scene. A couple decent pool tables. Always has great beer and drink specials. And I love that they are open and let you wait for tables at food spots up and down the street when needed.

The reviews from 2011 and earlier for this place don’t do any justice. Though this place has looked the same, there has been huge improvements, most notably their beer selection. They carry some of the best microbrews that you will find in the greater Burlington area. Their kegs are constantly rotated and you’ll find some beers that you won’t find in other craftbeer pubs around town. The bartenders are extremely chill, friendly, and attentive. it’s one of those local dive bars with interesting /edgy clientele. If you want to avoid hippies, rich Vermonters from Shelburne/Charlotte, and douchey bros, this is probably the place for you. I took off one star because their drinks are usually more expensive than some of the craft-beer pubs downtown. Tip: You can order half sizes of beer

I’ve always appreciated the Monkey House as not only a great bar(fair prices, good selection, nice atmosphere) but also as a true supporter of the local arts scene. There are always different selections of paintings from local artists on display around the bar, and it’s one of the few venues in the area that will allow newer/non-mainstream artists(whether they be musicians, comedians, etc.) have stage time to present their work. And beyond local shows, because of the Monkey House’s collaboration with Angioplasty Media and Burlington Shows, they are able to book a lot of upcoming acts from out of town. A great bar, a great music venue & a true asset to the Greater Burlington arts scene!

We love coming here as our friendly neighborhood bar. There is a variety of live music and the bartenders are really nice. The owner Ryan is awesome — in fact we asked his company, Fluid Bar, to bar-tend at our wedding. And he let us use the Monkey House that night for a private after-party free of charge! There are two pool tables in the back if you want to play games with friends. One thing to know is that the bar does not serve food but you can bring food in from outside. They atmosphere is laid-back and the vibe is chill. You may even catch a live show. There is a decent selection of VT beer on tap.

My boyfriend and I were visiting from MA and went to a couple different bars. This was by far the best one we found. Friendly staff, good beer selection, and just a good overall atmosphere. We’ll definitely be returning there on our next trip to the Burlington area!

Great draft selection, good Bourbon, and friendly staff… what more could you ask for? The live music is hit or miss, but that’s kind of part of its charm.

I met my girlfriend at the monkey. The only people in the place were my roommate(who’s boyfriend was in the band), the bartender, myself, and a lone woman at the bar(who’s boyfriend was also in the band). Well, she’s mine now Geoff! This place is fun and funky. They have great beers on tap, a decent pool table, quality bartenders who also make GRILLEDCHEESE, live music every night, and strange furniture that is way too low to the ground. I credit this place with the revitalization of Winooski.
