Brisket has good flavor but too much fat for my taste. Little dry and there original sauce was kind of bland. Hail from Lexington so pretty decent judge of BBQ. Staff was cordial but not overly friendly. Mac n’ cheese was delish. **Free ice cream**

Good food & a friendly staff, but not the best BBQ in Winston-Salem so 4 stars. Their menu has lots of combo options. They also have signature BBQ sauces… they’re good, not amazing. Also, drinks come in a giant, take-home Dickey’s cup!

This is the worst BBQ I’ve ever had in my life. The food was so dry and had no taste.

We’ve been here three times, first time for sandwiches which were pretty good. Second time for brisket and rib plates, but this experience was terrible. The dining room was a disaster area, and all of the food was cold, dry and inedible. The manager did take down our name and offered two free meals on our next visit. It’s been over a year and we finally went back. I didn’t ask for our free meals as it had been so long. But at $ 26 for two plates with just one meat each, they are pricey for a chain restaurant. Today’s visit was pretty good, the service was okay, a few employees were checking their phones instead of bussing dirty tables. The brisket was over cooked and a little dry. I asked for sliced, but the slices completely crumbled when touched. The pulled pork was very juicy and flavorful. The green beans were good, slaw was sweet and needed a touch of vinegar for my preference. The loaded mashed potatoes were okay and the barbecued beans were hit and tasty. They have three sauces to help yourself to and I like them all. The sweet tea was not sweet at all, well it had sugar in it, but it’s very light. Certainly a better visit today, and we will try them again.

We ordered take for our office. 7 people. When we entered building lady at cash register never acknowledged us(texting). She finally just picked up her purse and left. That left one person working who finally helped us(those behind us left). We were told then our order didn’t include slaw. They were out(noon). Just a bad experience.

Great fast food! Very nice employees. Liked the BBQ and vibe. Better than other fast food alternatives. Oh, and there’s free soft serve with your meal.

Was in town for business and swung into Dickey’s for a Westerner sandwich. Best value on the menu and never disappoints. I tend to order the beef brisket with sausage on top, but today I switched over to the pulled pork and sausage. Love the hot BBQ sauce on the top. Topped it off with a rootbeer float. FREEICECREAM… That’s what I’m talking about. Super clean and friendly, attentive staff. Check it out!

This place is so expensive for what you get! It’s crazy they would build here since this area is one of the bbq capitals of the USA… At a traditional bbq place you get a ton of food for a great price. This place is the complete opposite. Walked in for the first time and had to stare at the menu to even figure out what was going on… I got a 2 meat plate with Mac and Cheese and Baked Beans. My friend just got a bbq sandwich and I got a large drink. It was $ 23 for that… wow. So after I paid I expected a lot of food to come with that price. It took well over 10 minutes to get my food. The staff was ok, but not really that great. They tried to ring me up 2(yes 2) more times even though I had my receipt in my hand… The 2 meat plate I got had chopped pork(a NC staple) and beef brisket. The meat was about ½ cup worth each and the sides were a good portion. The baked beans tasted burned like it has been setting in the warmer for too long without being stirred. I had to ask for hushpuppies twice and finally was finished eating(about 15 minutes later) before they were done… The meat was VERYVERYVERY dry. Both the pork and beef. To put it lightly that’s the worst food for $ 23 I’ve had in a long time! I would save your money and visit a TRUENC bbq place instead. Never again. Very small inside to sit… they have an outdoor patio area but it was super hot this day. If you have more than 3 or 4 people it will be tight.

Eaten at this place a couple of times before and had average experience before but today I was in the mood for some barbecue for lunch. The wait was long with only one person in front of me and the guy taking the order wasn’t the least bit friendly. I got two big barbecues with one costing 5.75. I must say for the price the meat was extremely dry and had little flavor. The sandwich came with pickles and onions. I don’t mind paying for quality barbecue but when the meat doesn’t live up to the quality and you get bad service on top of that it really turn you away from a place. Check some other spots for your BBQ spots with much better value

We eat here often and have never had a bad meal. The ham, pork, and beef brisket are great. I just had the ribs for the first time today and I enjoyed them very much. They had a nice rub and the original sauce compliments well. I am a professional bbq judge, and while I know very well this is a chain and it is a bit of heresy to endorse a chain, it is tasty, good bbq. I recommend it highly. Very good variety and excellent sides. Friendly staff. It is a reliable, delicious choice.

I came here with some co-workers for lunch. Based on my experience, I think Dickey’s is an OK place to go during a lunch hour if you work in the area and have a strong hankering for BBQ with a lot of sides, but the place is on the pricier side for Jonestown Road restaurants. I ordered the ribs which came with a sweet sauce that was thicker than might normally given at local Carolina-style BBQ shops. I personally prefer this type of sauce, so I was happy to get it. They also had the option for sauce on the side, with three different sauces at the self-serve area. For the ribs, the meat was very tender. One great thing about this restaurant is that there are a lot of options for sides and many meal options come with the choice of two. So most people should be able to find some sides that suit their preferences. If you get a meal, you also will get a roll or hush puppies. I was a little disappointed in that the hush puppies I ordered were not made fresh. Deep fried stuff just isn’t as good when it has been sitting outside for some time. The drink cups you get from here are huge and dishwasher safe! If you dine in, you can get a cone of soft-serve ice cream. I grabbed one on the way out and it was good. The seating was just fine. Although the staff did push us along in orders, as one fellow Unilocaler notes, my impression was that they were just trying to move everyone along quickly so that they could serve everyone during the lunch hour rush. My biggest gripe with Dickey’s is the price for the amount and quality of food you get. For that reason, if I am grabbing lunch in the area again, unless a co-worker is really eager to go here, I will probably grab lunch at one of the many other great small places for lunch on Jonestown Road.

I LOVE this place. I’m a very picky bbq person and this is some of the best bbq I’ve ever had. The meat is moist and packed with smokey flavor. The sauces are excellent, the sides are wonderful and varied and anything fried is made to order. I’ve eaten here twice now and both times have been thoroughly impressed. Great food, great service!

Not the best BBQ I’ve had, but I had a craving for fried okra… The okra was good… I probably could have gotten two orders of that. I got the Tuesday special, which was three ribs, 2 sides, hushpuppies and sweet tea. The ribs were a bit dried out, the onion things were waaay too salty, sweet tea was not too sweet(which was actually good) and the okra was the best part. Average at best.

My expectations weren’t high went I stopped into Dickey’s yesterday. I had had it before in an airport and blamed by bad experience on airport food. So here I was, giving it another try. Silly me. I walked in and was greeted with«For Here or To Go.» At that point I should have just left. I got passed through the serving line with all of the scripted items.. . «Hushpuppies or roll?» The feeling was obviously, «Get this guy through the line with as little service as possible.» As I was being rung up the cashier was talking with the other worker about how the manager didn’t get lids. It was like I wasn’t even there. The food was fine I guess. The pulled pork was a really odd grey color which just didn’t look appealing. The turkey was ok. The mac and cheese was more sauce that mac. The onion tanglers had a strange sweet taste to them. The whole experience was pretty bad. I doubt I’ll return.

I had a pulled pork sandwich and it was really good. The original bbq sauce is yummy! The fried okra was freshly cooked and the green beans and bacon were good too. The free huge pickles were a nice bonus. Overall, this was a surprisingly good bbq experience.

Ate an early dinner at Dickeys today, the bread on both our sandwiches was very stale as well as the ice cream cones. Portions were small for the price. Many better options in the area for BBQ.

My family stopped in a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. Our first time trying Dicky’s was a very good experience. Kids eat free on Sundays so my youngest had a very generous kids meal and couldn’t even finish it all. Adults had brisket and a BBQ sandwich. Everything was delicious, flavorful and tender. We will definitely be back to try more of this delicious food. It’s a nice change from the over abundant chopped pork that’s found all over this town.

We were so excited when Dickey’s opened, as we like regular BBQ, as opposed to «carolina» style BBQ. I love the chopped brisket, but my kids and hubby love the pulled pork! We love it so much, we got it for Thanksgiving last year! :) Everyone is always super friendly here.

This is not BBQ. And I don’t mean that in the way one typically means it around here, as in, «BBQ is pork & only NCBBQ is worth eating.» No, I mean that, as I was sawing through the toughest beef brisket with a plastic knife, dipping a tasteless yeast roll into recently frozen Brunswick stew to make it marginally less hard, and fighting the urge to carry a thick-sliced piece of lukewarm Jennie-O turkey back to the cashier as evidence to support a request for full refund, all the while under the comdemning gaze of Dutch, what I kept thinking was that what I was eating was not BBQ. It was frozen meat that had been thawed and reheated, and then coated in a sauce that was likely no better than Great Value BBQ sauce from Wal-Mart. The signs in Dickey’s claim that the place has been around since 1941. After tasting this slop and observing the mass-produced corporate décor around the place, it occurred to me that Dickey’s must be a chain, and the sullen, frowning rednecks behind the counter must have among them at least one franchise owner who thought it would be a good plan to open an assembly-line BBQ restaurant within such close proximity to places serving freshly smoked meats at cheaper prices. The local restaurant with a selection most like Dickey’s is probably Bib’s, which is quite good but inconsistent. But Dickey’s is expensive, with small portions, and is the sort of BBQ one might expect at an interstate exit along a commercial strip. I will not be returning. Sorry, Dickey. Pregnant women may be happy to know there’s a huge jar of whole pickles available for the taking, though. And there was good music playing for most of my visit, though I wish fewer restaurants would blare music inside. Not sure why that trend started. Overall, 3⁄10.
