Got an amazing trench coat for 99 cents during a labor day sale.

I live in High Point and despite a few setbacks I try and make a weekly trek to this store. I sell and collect board games and toys and they have a very large selection of toys and games here. I almost always walk out with a bundle of games. Sometimes I get cartloads of games. Their prices are very good as well with most games being under $ 2.00. This is much better than Goodwill with most of their games going for $ 3.99 or more now. Now, I love this place but I have had a few sour experiences. 1. They seem to have a tape fetish or something. Every game on the shelves has been over wrapped with packing tape. I am pretty sure I could dunk some of the games in water and they would come out dry. I understand they don’t want kids pulling out all of the pieces and getting them everywhere but the games are on the top shelf where most kids can’t get to them anyway. The tape is extremely hard to get off of the game boxes and if it is left on for any decent length of time it is going to tear and rip the boxes. So, step away from the tape roller and leave the games out of reach of the munchkins. 2. This has only happened once but it did affect two of the games I bought. I bought a copy of Politika and a copy of Clue and when i got home I opened them up to check the components. Now, this goes with the taping comments because if the boxes weren’t taped so much I could have checked the bits in the store. Anyway, when I opened the boxes both of them had black and white mold growing inside on the game board and the bits. Now, this had never happened before or since so I am sure the game was like this when it was donated but they obviously skipped checking these boxes before the taping them up and putting them on the shelf. As I said before, the prices and the excellent selection(It is a revamped grocery store so it is freaking huge!) keep me coming back. I can overlook the cleanliness of the store and the disarray of the shelves as long as they keep this much stuff for sale. So, if you don’t mind digging a bit then this might be the place for you. Of course if you don’t want to dig then stay away because it will be a greater chance of me finding good stuff.

Mega Thrift is an incredibly well-run business. Apparently they buy high quality donations in bulk and give what doesn’t sell to local Goodwill stores. They have Mac computers as registers and a great color tag system so that their inventory is always fresh(with weekly discounts on a different color every week). I love the«best quality» sections, which feature top name designers. I got a great pair of work pants from Ann Taylor Loft for $ 5, some Banana Republic jeans for $ 6, and a few great blouses. They also have a good plus-size section and some dresses and purses. I would recommend coming here for clothes and shoes only, as their housewares(other than linens) are very limited and pretty overpriced(example: $ 3 for a broken popcorn popper).

I cant emphasize too much how addicted I am to thrift stores. Sometimes I go just to see what randomness I can find thrown in the corner with bowling shirts and frisbees. Plus, if I do find something good. It is great to buy from places that contribute to shelters or other humanitarian efforts. Unfortunately, when I checked out I found out this place was a for-profit… So I took a star off. Well I was walking through this spot and saw a DARE graduate shirt. I was going to buy it, but realized I haven’t been a Medium since high school. Still… I was amazed to think there were grown men who were DARE graduates… wasn’t that in elementary school? I found some other random t-shirts. Festivals, Game Shirts, and BALTIMOREBROWNS tee? I was a little thrown off on that one. Good finds in there… I’ll go back!
