I thought this place was pretty good my boyfriend liked it more than our normal place. I got a chimichanga and it was definitely not the best one that I have ever had, they also messed up my order. The chips and salsa were really good though and they do give a good small treat at the end of your meal which is really nice. The service here was good and I did like the atmosphere as well.

I’m not sure why I haven’t reviewed this restaurant before! It’s fantastic! This place was the very first restaurant my husband and I went to when we first moved to the area, and since then we’ve visited it many times. We absolutely love it! Food is always wonderful(I suggest the #4; an enchilada, one taco and this incredible beef and cheese tostada!) and it’s fast. Service is consistent and great and we both love the free chips and salsa. It’s a nice touch! Drinks are extremely reasonable, my Chardonnay was only around $ 4.00. Yes I know, who orders wine at a Mexican restaurant, right? Anyway, my husband and I were able to stuff ourselves to full and the bill was about $ 20, including booze! Oh and the free strawberry/whipped cream/tortilla thing for dessert is incredible! I «make» my husband take me here at least once a week. We will most definitely continue to frequent this restaurant!

How do I say this? Well, let me just tell you what happened: As I was eating my pollo Mazatlan(which, by the way, was topped with American cheese… take a moment to read that again… and prison grade barbecue sauce) one of the dozen or so flies sharing our booth landed on the barbecue sauce, got stuck, and died on my still sizzling piece of chicken right before me and my children. It was horrifying, and the fly didn’t enjoy it any more than we did. Did they charge us for the pollo Mazatlan? Let’s just say we won’t be joining the multitude of flies at this restaurant again.

Large menu, with various mexican and tex-mex options. Food was ok. Service was good. Prices are affordable. Complimentary desert is a nice touch.

I have eaten here a few times and either it used to be better, or I ordered the wrong dish, or having eaten at Domingo’s in Mocksville I expect better now. Most recent visit I ordered the carnitas bonitas(or something similarly named). It was some bland, sauceless pork with onions and peppers arrayed around it like a flower. No tortillas, no jalapenos. Boring and bland. I’d like to say I will go back again to give them another chance, but with other better options around I don’t now that I will.

We were craving some Mexican food and we just moved to the area. Monte de Rey is very close to our house so we decided to give it a try. Granted, the food is your typical Mexican food, but it was still really good and very reasonably priced. They had great service, good atmosphere, good food, and the«cherry on top»(pun intended), free sopapillas for dessert! We were very happy with our experience and we will definitely be becoming regulars here!

Quiet little place. Attentive staff. They are never really busy so service is always fast. The food is goo though it is typical for Mexican restaurants. I will go back.

My husband and I went to Monte Del Rey for dinner on Valentine’s Day. We were promptly seated despite arriving at 5:45 on a high volume restaurant«holiday». As soon as we were seated we were greeted with chips and salsa. The salsa was nice and acidic without too much heat for my sensitive stomach… even when it’s incindiary I eat it, lol. I ordered a Margarita which was a special. It was large, not too strong but I could still taste the tequila, which I like. For dinner I ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas, which were only about $ 1 more than just chicken. Given the small price change I wasn’t expecting much shrimp. I was wrong! There was SOMUCH shrimp, and it was delicious and properly deveined. I had so much i shared wuth the hubby. There were a ton of onions and peppers too, plenty for two. The rice and beans were yummy too. I loved the guacamole, I could have eaten a giant bowl of it. They did not come with cheese, which is ok because I wouldn’t have used it on shrimp anyway. My husband got beef fajitas. He said they were F’ing fantastic! There was a mariachi band tonight, which was a fun touch! This will definitely be our new go to for Mexican food. It is off the beaten path, and much easier to get to than any other places we usually go. Traffic in this town is horrible, and by coming here we can avoid all of it!

They never have any customers … Nice place … Very clean. Typical Mexican food. Not sure why they don’t ever do more business.

Features standard Mexican fare(burritos, enchiladas, etc). While the staff was very friendly and attentive, the food featured nothing to distinguish it as particularly authentic or memorable. Good value in terms of quantity/quality for the price.

The California burrito is delicious and the avocado is always fresh. They also have very good queso, or white cheese sauce. You get a good amount of food for the price and of course the free chips and salsa.

This is my favorite mexican restaurant in Winston — I discovered it while living just down the street, and since I’ve moved further a way I still will make the drive for my mexi hit every once in a while. Not the cheapest, but definitely the best service(I’m looking at you, Mi Pueblo), quickest and most delicious.

This is a great little Mexican restaurant in Winston-Salem; definitely my favorite I have tried. My husband I have spent a bit of time in Southern California, where the Mexican taco and burrito shops/stands are plentiful. So we have been looking to get our Mexican food fix. Is this place *just* like those in California? No, but it will certainly do. I can also understand that they probably are trying to cater to a different crowd. Here are aspects I like about this restaurant: — When I ordered a beef burrito, well soft chimichanga(which is an oxymoron), there was shredded beef. — Big portions for cheap prices. Always a plus! — I brought my dad here on a night where they had a beer special. He could get 32 oz. of Dos Equis for less than $ 3, if I recall correctly. — The service was great. Very courteous waiters. They call everyone«amigo.» I was mildly amused. — They give you a little cinnamon chip w/whipped cream for dessert. So cute! — Like a lot of Mexican places in the area, they give you chips and salsa. Here are things that reminded me I am not in California… — If you get tacos, they give you hard shells rather than soft tortillas. — A lot of items have white cheese sauce on top. If you are not used to this, ask for it on the side. It makes a great chip dip. — The salsa is mediocre. It seems like it is out of a jar/can. Overall, I’m a fan.

I was impressed by Monte De Rey considering its lack of advertising and the relatively few reviews here on Unilocal. To put things succinctly: It’s a casual sit-down Mexican restaurant with a giant menu, good prices, and prompt service. My wife’s «soft chimichangas» are the reason this place gets 5-stars. WONDERFUL soft shredded beef with a grand mix of guacamole, cheese, lettuce, tortilla skin, tomato sauce, beans, and probably quite a bit more. It was amazing and huge. I was just as happy eating the leftovers the next morning. I ordered the cerviche with shrimp which I «think» was catfish cured in lime juice + shrimp. It was well portioned and although I was a bit overwhelmed with the number of jalapenos, I will likely try it again at the fair price of $ 7. It would have been an exceptionally healthy meal had it not been served with crunchy nacho discs. I’m a Chipotle fan and now I may never go back to Chipotle because for just a little bit more money, I can get the sit-down restaurant service with the same(if not higher quality) items. Also, chips and salsa are unlimited and complimentary, and for dessert, they give a complimentary little cookie-thing topped with whipped cream which I thought was a nice touch.
