Been coming here for about 3 years now ever since my boyfriend moved to the area. Food is always good and so is the service. I don’t think we’ve ever had a negative experience. I love, love, love their fries! Yummy crispy coating and fluffy inside. I often eat their breakfast or chicken strip pita!

I love this place! Everything that I have ordered has been large portions and delicious. I am a HUGE fan of the greek salad with chicken — I could eat it for 3 meals it’s so big. The greek dressing is the pink kind– for those of you who are picky about your greek dressing. It is homemade and very good. The chicken gyro is also very good — the sauce is homemade as well(pretty sure they make a lot of the dressings and sauces) The staff and owner are very friendly and the prices are very reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. If you’re ordering carry-out make sure to ask for your fries extra crispy so they do not get soggy. All in all this is a «go to» place for a great lunch and I know I can pick anything off the menu and be satisfied.

Stopped here for breakfast around 12pmish with my son on the way to a festival. No complaints about the food. Service started out okay, but ended very lackluster. Waitress misunderstood my order and brought out an extra plate of hash browns, scrambled eggs, and toast. Just thought whatever and figured I’d take the leftovers for the dog. Then when the bill came and I asked for a box. The box never came. Got sick of waiting and just went up to pay because I really had to go. Saw 2 other tables get their boxes and I was sitting in a line-of-sight booth. What a waste of my time, food, and money.

Since moving to the area, I was hoping, even assuming, the local Coney Island was probably going to be like most. Not really. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing great either. It’s just ok. I’m not sure how you mess up breakfast, but again, it’s ok. Pros– it’s clean, nice atmosphere, service is decent. Cons– food is ok, priced a little high, especially since the food in nothing special. Found another Coney not too far away on Beck Rd. that I go to now. Much better.

Stopped here on a recent Saturday for a late breakfast. Our order was taken swiftly and meals delivered in a flash. It all went downhill from there. Worst breakfast we have ever been served. Eggs not cooked as requested. hash browns barely warmed. Congealed puddles of grease on the bacon strips. Toast with a single splash of butter. Even the pre-packaged jelly was off-tasting. Ugh! Funny thing was, the place was busy, almost all the tables filled. Must have been a load off a tour bus, cuz nobody would ever eat here twice! Avoid this place!

The food was great but my review will focus on our amazing server Melissa! She was very sweet, fast and attentive. Drinks were always full and she didn’t get annoyed by us sending her back and forth for ranch and refills. She was fun and had a great sense of humor with us. We will definitely return. :D

I was hoping for a home run, a new favorite coney lunch stop near my new office but not so much. I got carryout, a Greek salad with chicken. I will say that the chicken portion was very generous, but not seasoned well and kind of chewy. I asked for my feta on the side as I do at every place. They got this right but when I opened the container some of the feta was stained pink, like it had already been sitting on a salad with beets. I like beets, but this just grossed me out a bit. Also worth mentioning is the fact that they use sliced Greek olives on their salad. Now I also like olives but this was completely over done. There was about a half cup of sliced olives on the salad, which even for an olive lover, was a little much. The Greek dressing is homemade and despite the efforts to spruce up the taste, I can’t get over it’s bright pink color and too sweet taste.

On a family vacation in the area, we needed a quick breakfast in Wixom. We headed into Backyard Coney Island and were largely ignored by staff. There was no sign indicating that we should wait for service or seat ourselves. We sat ourselves and finally a man told us our waitress would be over in a «few minutes», she arrived and seemed very rushed. We were served our drinks and ordered our meals. The prices are low here, and the portions are large. You will certainly not leave this restaurant with a hungry stomach. My two big problems were: the flavor and the coffee. The food was, like I said, plentiful but mediocre. Completely unseasoned and bland. I ordered the homemade corned beef hash which was simply chunks of corned beef mixed into hash brown strings with added peppers and onions, not really corned beef hash at all. I added salt and pepper and ate it because I was hungry and needed energy for an all day swim session. My daughter got one egg(more like 2.5) served over a mountain of hash browns with toast. It was a good deal but she hates hash browns so we took it all home. Hubby got French toast and it was fine. It’s pretty tough to mess up fried bread covered in sugar syrup. And then there’s the coffee… I thought perhaps the creamer I’d used was old and that was the reason for the putrid flavor of the coffee but it wasn’t. After my first cup soured to the point of tasting like acid prune juice, I asked our server for another, fresh cup. Even she mentioned that she dislikes their coffee brand and that my next cup would taste the same. I took a risk and tried it again. Yep, whatever coffee they use must be the cheapest nastiest junk ever! I don’t need fancy coffee, the free coffee at The Holiday Inn is perfectly fine for me. But the coffee at Backyard was the worst I’ve ever had. Server offered another beverage choice but I stuck with water. I need at least one halfway decent cup of coffee in the morning, so even though the price was right and the food was edible, albeit bland, I would never return to this place. If the coffee was even marginally better we would have been back the next day for breakfast simply due to convenience. Maybe the owners prefers that coffee brand but they need to leave it at home and purchase something normal for the restaurant.

GODAWFUL. Avoid bleach blonde young server unless you want to be treated like shit and not receive any service. Food took too long and was half cooked oh and she completely forgot my toast even after I asked about it. If you want a GOOD coney try classic coney in highland don’t waste your time and money at backyard! Won’t be back.

The food is really good, especially breakfast! I didn’t give it 5 stars because the service is poor. The members of the wait staff have pretty bad attitudes. That is easily resolved by getting your order to go. The prices are also good.

i was on my lunch and called the coney island, they answered the phone and placed me on hold. fine i held on and they never came back, i heard all kinds of conversations between the wait staff. i hung up and called back as im driving in the car to place my order. needless to say they answered again and again placed me on hold i was still on hold walking through the front door. i asked for the manager showed him the phone so he can see i was on hold for almost 10 min and all his waitstaff is standing around and eating never came back to answer the phone. the manager came over i told him what was happening he looked at me and said«yeah what can i get you» i was shocked no im sorry or anything. beacause i waited so long i didnt know what i wanted anymore. the manager literally threw the pen down and just walked away. like the fact that his wait staff is not taking orders over the phone which means money for his business was not an issue to him. no matter how good the food is or how much fod you get good customer service is everything. he will never get a dollar from me again.

The whole premise of a Coney Island is pretty good food fast. Backyard mixes both up: marginal food that takes a really long time to get. The people are nice and the place looks fine, but after a number of visits and the same results, I am going elsewhere. Thank goodness there are many other choices.

This place is a main-stay in Wixom. The food is always good and the portions are huge. The price is right and the service is always good. This is typical coney fare but done well! We have never been disappointed here!

Local place, near downtown Wixom. It’s a basic breakfast place and coney island. It’s got a good sized menu. Friendly and chatty wait staff. The food was order and delivered quickly. The wife had perfect poached eggs, which is a tell-tale sign the cook knows what they are doing. Portions are well sized and generous. We asked for hash browns well cooked, and that’s what we got — another sign of a good restaurant. So if you are in the Wixom area and you want a fast sit down breakfast, the first place I would recommend would be this restaurant. The only negative was the regular coffee was strong, but the decaf was perfect.

Another place I’ve visited because of Hubby’s and my weekly Saturday breakfast outing with our family. The atmosphere here is very homey, a bit better than most coneys, including whimsical, one-of-a-kind murals. We’ve had the same waitress both times we’ve been here, and both times she gave us very friendly, somewhat erratic, service. The food here is comparable to other coneys, however portions are larger than usual, so if you’re a big eater, this is the place for you. Especially notable is the size of their breakfast sandwiches. One of my big-eatin’ bros-in-law ordered two of these and was very hard put to eat both.

prolly more like 4.5 stars, but i was left with a good feeling and i liked the folks working there, so i rounded up to 5. the portions and prices are amazing! went there for my final meal during thanksgiving weekend and the gluttony did not not stop! i tried my sisters country omelette which is an omelette covered in sausage gravy. really good. and then i had my corned beef hash and scrambled eggs and white toast. the corned beef hash wasn’t quite what i expected, but it was good with more salt added. if i lived in Wixom, then i would probably be here every week. i was there with a group of 3 kids and 6 other adults and the service was no-frills good and fast.

Great place, friend atmosphere and HUGE sandwiches! Some co-workers introduced me to the Backyard Coney Island when I started working in Novi. I ordered a patty melt and chili fries I could barely eat half of my patty melt and I left almost a full plate of the fries and I shared them. The food was great and the service was quick. You get what you pay for and the quality and quantity are worth your pennies :) Not the typical greasy spoon coney island. Enjoy!
