My family and I have been to Dixie Bones BBQ twice and we’ve had excellent experiences each time. The wait staff is friendly. We’ve tried the pulled pork, spare ribs, and chicken… all were fantastic. The corn bread is worth the extra 45 cents. For sides, we’ve tried the cole slaw, baked beans, mac & cheese, and deep fried potato slices… they were all awesome as well. The menu is is a bit pricey, but the food is definitely worth it. And if you pay with cash, you can save 3% on the check. If you’re looking for a great bbq meal in the Northern Virginia area, Dixie Bones is the place to go.

The service here is excellent! Our server, Victor, went above and beyond. He let me sample a couple of sides from their large selection for my meal before I ordered. Their menu had a great selection! Four different sauces to choose from including white sauce and also a vinegar for those that prefer Carolina. All plates come with 2 sides and bread, as I think all barbecue should. The potato salad was really good, the baked beans were above average. This place really had a great feel, reminded me of home! They also have a good pie selection. They send you home with a big ol’ to go cup of sweet tea, like a proper bbq pit should… I will definately return!

The food is always amazing. I’ve been coming here for 19 years with my grandfather. The prices use to be cheaper years ago, example, $ 14 for the catfish plate, now with tax it’s over $ 20. That’s why I give 4 stars.

This place is a local favorite and is loved by the community and the staff. The staff have pictures of themselfs shot by the owner which shows a great deal of support from the owner. Our waiter said that he had worked there for about 5 years which to me means he is dedicated. So needless to say our waiter knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to introduce us to the menu and help us select some of the local favorites. He also made me an «Arnold Palmer» even thou it wasn’t on the menu and it was excellent. Now comes the bad news. Even tho the wait staff was excellent and the décor made you feel like you were in an old American antique shop(Which was fun to look around) the food was just ok. I ordered the pulled pork and it was dry, the BBQ sauces were just ok and they had three to select from. The Chicken was also dry but now as much as the pork. My son had the grilled cheese and he actually ate it, and I say that because he’s a picky eater. I expected better from this establishment because it looked and smelt like BBQ, there was even a huge smoker in the parking lot at the front door so I was hopeful from the beginning. But that wasn’t the worse part, the Mac and cheese was the worse I have ever had. It wasn’t cheesy or creamy. The noodles were soft but the cream was gridy and the cheese wasn’t melty but stiff like kraft cheese gets when it cools. I told waiter about the cheese separation which causes the gridy texture but he said that’s how they made there. So pushed it to the side and continued my meal. In the end I had a good experience and was really impressed by the respect and love by the staff for the restaurant. But since I have to judge the food in this review I’ll have to leave it with a 3 star on just the food alone and a 5 star on the waiter.

Stopped in for some food during a road trip. Very friendly staff and super fast service! We had ribs and they were very well cooked. The only reason I’m not giving 5-stars is because I wish they had a spicier BBQ sauce option. Other than that — great, quick food!

Love Dixie Bones. If you want tasty and delicious food that comes fast to your table, this is where to go. Friendly staff here who take good care of you. Favorite order is the loaded baked potato with chicken. It is seriously huge. I get the butter and sour cream on the side because otherwise it’s just too much IMHO and I love to put their white sauce on it, anyway. If you can, leave room for desert. Their chocolate cream pie is fresh, delicious, and chocolatey– rich. Love this place and have been enjoying their food for ages. It’s consistently delicious. Enjoy!

I love the food and the service is great but the prices seem a bit high. Overall is a solid place for real BBQ!

I ate here today for the Sunday buffet. I will say I will for sure be back. The serve rice was great and so was the food. I didn’t care much for how watery their Bbq sauces were could be thicker but good tasting Bbq.

Eat here on a regular basis and have never been dissatisfied. I love the ribs with mac and cheese and collards. The pies are a nice dessert with coffee. The staff are always courteous and friendly. The service has always been prompt.

So lets see where do I start. So I got the two meat dinner with the beef brisket and spare ribs with Mac and cheese and greens. The sides were okay. Was turned off by the look of the Mac and cheese, but it didn’t taste bad. The greens were good, when I come back that would definitely be my go to. The meat on the other hand was okay. I liked the ribs way better than the brisket. The brisket was kinda mushy. I thought it was going to be sliced, not chopped. I didn’t really care for the texture but the favor was there. The ribs were very tender and had a nice smoke ring. I would come back to try other things on the menu. One spoon for now… To be continued

This place is seriously the best BBQ restaurant I’ve been to in Virginia. All the food is excellent! And they even have a soft serve ice cream place attached! It’s always busy here, there is a reason for it! You really can’t beat this place for a great meal at a great price!

We all have our favorite BBQ joints in PWC, but Dixie Bones always delivers. The BBQ is the best in NOVA. I personally recommend the Pork Potato. Orders are taken quick, and your food is always just amazing, and brought to you correctly. When you order take out you only have to wait a short amount of time. They get everything ready for you so fast and even though the service is speedy it doesn’t cut the quality of the food that you’re receiving. I highly recommend this place if you’re in Woodbridge and looking for some good barbecue.

Hickory wood smoked ribs and meat. They offer a simple menu of plates and family dinning. Meals come with two sides and cornbread sliced like a piece of pie. I had the two meat combo of ribs and sausage with cabbage and muddy ‘tatoes. Everything was great. The meat on the ribs literally jumped off the bone and into my mouth. How do they do that? It’s slow cooked and not smothered in sauce or fat. The sides were great also. Cabbage is the best I’ve had. The table has four house sauces and Texas Pete as condiments. The place is very clean and presentable service fast courteous and knowledgable. I didn’t have any wait for my order even though 90% of the tables were occupied. I’m glad I found this place in Woodbridge and I will come again. The price of $ 20 for lunch plus a drink(which came with a refill) is steep for being a regular but I look at it like this; you should pay a premium for real good bar B Q as bad bbq is just a waste of money.

This was my first visit to Dixie Bones and for the most part enjoyed my experience there. The ribs are delicious and fall right off of the bone. The cornbread is very southern and the serving size was very generous. The side items(Collards/Potato Salad) were disgusting — I took one bite of each and promptly pushed them to the side. I finished with a delightful fried Apple pie that was definitely share size — sweet redemption — totally delicious! The service was great and prompt. The prices were high — especially for kids — $ 7.50 for a grilled cheese? Nah. Bottom line… It was good, but not $ 60 for a family of four good.

I LOVE Dixie Bones! I’ve never been disappointed. The food comes out fast and hot; even with take out. I always get the loaded baked potatoe with either the pork or chicken(both are great). Sidenote: you can ask for a couple of bones to take home for your dog. They’ll woof it up!

This is an Alabama style BBQ place in Woodbridge, about 45 minutes south of DC and is some of the best BBQ I’ve had in the DC area. I was hungry and got the pork platter with two sides. The large serving of pork shoulder is very lean and tender, it had that perfect smoky flavor and goes well with their sauces. They have a regular tomato based sauce(a little sweet for me), a spicier tomato sauce(my favorite), a vinegar sauce(went well work pork as well), and an Alabama white sauce which I didn’t try. I normally prefer mustard based sauce but that’s more Carolina style so I respect their authenticity here. The BBQ beans were top notch and had a good flavor but could’ve used a little more pork or some more onions/peppers. The rice and beans were good as well but I added a little Tabasco sauce to perk them up a little. The meal comes with a huge slice of cornbread and it was tasty without being too sweet. I was too full to finish t though. Their iced tea is also real tea and worth a try. Too bad they don’t have fried okra like some places, maybe they’ll add it in the future? The service here is very fast and very friendly. Some of the prices are a little high but worth the price. I don’t say this often about DC area BBQ, but this place would fit right in down south and I’ll be back here. Oh and be sure to check out the«VDOT Breakfast» sign on the door. It’s a joke so don’t plan a breakfast stop here and also an example of bureaucracy at its worst.

Dixie Bones is an Alabama-style bbq joint in Woodbridge, that has been around since ’95. The hubs and I came to Dixie Bones for dinner, as our favorite ribs place hasn’t opened up for the season. I’ve only had their Pork Potato in the past, which was pretty good. I couldn’t believe that the founder of Dixie Bones himself, Mr. Nelson Head, was right there at the restaurant, chit-chatting it up with the customers and making sure everything was good(STARSTRUCK!!!)!!! The menu offers plate combos, Giant Stuffed Potatoes(Pork, Chicken, Beef, Sausage, or meatless), sandwiches, meat by the pound/pieces, sides(beans and rice, cabbage, cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad, etc.), kids options, desserts, as well as catering options. We had the 2 Meat Combo, with the Beef BBQ(brisket; this was okay) and the 3 pieces of spare ribs(they were tender, but not super flavorful), a Pork Potato(with a generous amount of pulled pork, butter, sour cream, cheese, and sweated onions; can be quite overwhelming at the generous amount of the meats/cheeses), a Loaded Potato(meatless; with butter, sour cream, cheese, and sweated onions), baked beans(I would have preferred a more thicker sauce), mac & cheese(just okay), muddy spuds(deconstructed homefries; more on the bland side), collards(quite delicious!), Dixie Chips(housemade thickly-sliced potato ‘chips;’ good with dipping in ketchup), cornbread(slightly dry), and a bun(which was just a hamburger bun; flavorless and dry). They also had 4 types of sauce jars at the table, which was quite nice for a sauce lover like myself — I preferred the sweeter one, that was slightly thicker, as well as the Alabama white bbq sauce(good with the brisket). We washed everything down with their sweet tea, which was not that sweet and came with free refills. I think I would still stick to their Giant Stuffed Potatoes, as that is a meal itself, as well as the collared greens. Our server, Ms. Ciza, was extremely sweet and very attentive — she made sure that everything was taken care of and checked up on us regularly. You can tell that the locals love this place, and the restaurant itself was jam-packed! +Giant Stuffed Potatoes(Pork Potato) +collared greens +Dixie Chips +sauce jars at the table(try the white BBQ sauce!) +Founder, Mr. Nelson, is on-site(!!!) :D +ask for Ms. Ciza! :D

I feel like I must have shown up here on a really off night. We didn’t have a memorable experience. We liked the catfish, but the brisket, sausage, pulled pork and ribs were just ok. Plus, our loaded potatoes came bare — they were just plain baked. The sauces were ok, but they didn’t seem to really enhance any of our food at all. The corn bread was dry and bland on top of that. We had a lot of high hopes, especially since Dixie Bones made the top 10 list in places to try BBQ in Virginia. I really wanted to have the great food that so many people have raved about.

Another first for me. Had to get off 95. Traffic galore. Seen the sign for Dixie BBQ. How could I resist some home cooking though only wanted fish. It was ok. Nothing to brag about. Not much seasoning. But worth getting off the road for 45 mins. The establishment is cute. Not to small. But not big either. Like a family establishment. The people are very friendly and staff were attentive. They work as a team and that’s important in a place like this.. I can see this place getting local crowded as they play the country music low as I hear. Was a good sit down place for off the highway. But I am sure there is more tastier food near by.
