The first impression, The Pub Out Back seems like a decent little bar, but the beer selection leaves a lot to be desired. They have seven on tap, and only a couple are local. The rest are the standard selection. They play excessively loud 70’s and 80’s music, which is okay if you don’t mind finishing your night with Bob Seger and Tears for Fears. I don’t know whether it’s the size of the bar or the music, but it’s painfully loud in this place. My girlfriend can sit less than a foot away and we have to shout at each other to be heard. Surprisingly, for being so small, The Pub does draw in the crowd. I’m sure the main reason for this is there isn’t much in the way of competition in Worthington. Sure, there’s The Old Bag of Nails which is just a hop-skip and a jump away, but the beer selection and atmosphere there is even worse(Bag of Nails is at the other end of the spectrum — TOO quiet). If you’re into run-of-the-mill beer and blaring retro music, then this is your place! I personally prefer a better beer selection without listening to songs I’ve heard a thousand times before.

Spontaneous stop on a Sunday afternoon drive in the hood. We had never heard of it but so glad to have stumbled across it. Dave, behind the bar, is a sweetheart. The vibe is comfortable and cozy. Very cozy. And friendly. Will definitely be back.

Almost one year later and this is still my favorite bar in all of Columbus. It doesn’t try to be anything its not, just a neighborhood bar with a few taps where everyone feels like friends.

What a great and truly fine neighborhood bar! Not too big, not too small, but just right. Very friendly employees, especially Ashley, Dave, Katie, Jim(owner), and the patrons are the best. The POB provides a «Cheers» feel in Olde Worthington. Get your backside to the POB and have a great time.

As other reviews have mentioned, this definitely has a neighborhood bar feel. Upon entering, it was clear there were many regulars(which I am not). As an introvert, that was a little intimidating. However, everyone was very friendly, especially the staff. The bar staff was very attentive to me, including tasters and suggestions. Being a beer snob, I look for unusual selections. I found a couple of beers on tap here that I had not found at a few other local sites or on my recent travels. I was pleased to find good choices from Ithaca Beer Company and Fat Head’s Brewery. If you are normally in the area, I would highly suggest checking out The Pub Out Back. If you are just passing through and looking for a comfortable place to stop in for a brew, then this is your place.

Very, VERY small place-not great for groups but a great place to hang with a friend or two. It’s welcoming and quaint, decorated in dark wood and burgundy. Not a great beer selection– I think 5 handles total? This is not a destination for craft draft; however, they do have a few rotating craft handles. The evening I went I had several Great Lakes Chillwave Double IPAs for $ 5 each. They also have wine and liquor-I spotted some local varieties of each. I over heard Happy Hour is M-F, 4 – 7PM. Many large TVs-March Madness on all. A back room I did not visit apparently has more seating and a dart board. No food but you can bring in your own or have Worthington pizza deliver some over. Apparently this is common for on the bar is hot sauce, red pepper flakes and parm cheese in shakers. They do have free in-shell peanuts you can snack all night when the munchies hit. Surprised how clean the floor was with this option available. All-in-all, great place to chill with a friend, watch some sports or grab a quick night cap.

Picture a tiny bar hidden away in a back ally where everybody knows your name… oh wait that has already been taken That is the vibe you get when walking into the Pub Out Back. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and happy. Many people seemed to be regulars but they welcomed us with open arms. It was the most pleasant bar experience I have had in Columbus. Space is small so it not appropriate for a large group of people. I did notice a back room which could have more space. They have ample TVs and peanuts for snacking. They also allow food from outside restaurants. Overall I would say this is a perfect place to grab a brew after work.

I will say, this place is hard to find. But when you find it, you’ll be glad you did. I will also offer full disclosure — a friend of mine is a partner in this bar, but that being said, I will fully stand behind this 5-star review with the integrity of my Elite member tenure. I just found out about the place a couple of weeks ago, 9 months after it opened. It is back off the street in downtown Worthington, behind the Old Bag, which I like because it keeps it at just the right level of popularity and crowdedness. It’s a good place to watch games — there are tons of quality TVs in the front and back, and they play the game audio for big local football, baseball and basketball games. The bar is just big enough that your group of 4 – 6 can fit, but small enough that if it’s just a couple of you you can have a good time sitting at the bar enjoying the game, music or conversation. The draft selection is good, you’ve got just 2 typical domestics(for cheap) and then a handful of regional crafts and seasonals. I had 4 craft beers here on a Saturday night and my tab was about $ 16…that doesn’t happen often. I will definitely suggest this among my friends as a place for a low-key night out. It does actually get busier for happy hour and weeknight drinks than it does on your typical weekend nights out. All in all, a great find closer to home that feels like it would be something you’d find in Grandview or the Short North.

Definitely what made this place 5-star for me is the bartenders and the owner Jim. All are very friendly and talkative without being obnoxious. I first went here after work in April 2013. Each time I come since then, they find you a spot at the bar. Jim also usually introduces me to some other ppl sitting there if I don’t know them. I prefer going after work. Reasonably price drinks! Wood paneling with hometown feel. Super friendly!

This is a ‘Gem’ of a place. It’s indeed a ‘Pub out back’, away from the hustle and bustle. It’s a handsome, comfortable place to have good drinks, served by friendly staff. They have a good partnership with Worthington Pizza as they deliver the food. I didn’t get any this time but I will surely be back to try it!

This is a great place to grab a beer in Worthington. The interior is nice and oakey like a good neighborhood bar should be, but it is new and it still feels fresh. As the other reviewers have mentioned, this place is small but the upside is that it is «hoppin» with only a half dozen patrons hanging out. They have a good mix of bottles and a few drafts, and they mix a decent G&T. Now the last time I was there, someone had taken over the jukebox with a bunch of Springsteen B-sides and some other odd stuff, but not odd enough to kill the vibe. And there are enough TVs that you should be able to find your game. On the way out, I noticed that there is a back room with more tables. I’m not sure what it in there. I’ll just have to go back! With lots of parking right outside, and the Worthington Inn and Rivage nearby, it makes a nice pre– or post-dinner stop. Or a MUST on a Worthington pub-crawl.(Kind of cool that a Worthington pub crawl is possible, actually.)

Fun new spot to grab a beer in Worthington. Not a huge beer selection but all the choices are solid and the bar is welcoming. Every time I’ve been there I become engaged in conversation with the staff and other patrons at the bar. Lots of TVs, great spot to enjoy a game.

This is a cozy bar. And by cozy, I mean cozy like a basement setup. I mean small. You don’t really come here because they have an excellent draft selection(there’s about 5) or their delicious food(there is none, you can get pizza delivered), but you come here because it quickly becomes familiar. Also, free peanuts. The walls are adorned with big screens, so this bar is great for any game day. The staff and regulars are friendly. Nothing offensive or out of the ordinary. Clean and comfortable.

Lots of pub character with friendly customers and staff. It’s clean and properly stylish without being overwhelmed by some of the clutter that accumulates in too many bars. I will be back.
