Racist, sexist, and vulgar language from patrons of an establishment shouldn’t be too much of a problem. It becomes a problem, however, when the staff of the establishment not only refuse to reign in the more raucous players during a rant of race or sex but also joins in on the comments. Whether it’s one of the gamers making jokes about women and other races in crude ways, or the staff making lewd gestures and comments about the customers of the store, this isn’t a store for families. On top of the attitude of patrons is the selection of products. If you’re just getting into tabletop games, then the Phoenix has a selection akin to a «Greatest Hits» collection from an artist. For board game enthusiasts, however, this selection will not do, as most of the games you either own or have already played and aren’t looking to buy. The problem the inventory brings is that most new tabletop gamers who would be interested in what the Phoenix has to offer are either young and impressionable or families with young and impressionable family members who are now hearing all of the slurs and quips in the environment. Chances are that if you’re not offended by what is being said while in the Phoenix you have been much more invested in your board games, meaning that the selection they offer won’t appeal to you much in any way. The Magic the Gathering crowd seems to the biggest draw, which is sad because it is usually either these fans or the Warhammer players who are the biggest contributors to the off-color conversations. While the Judge(who’s name escapes me) of the Magic tournaments is a pretty nice guy, he doesn’t make up for the transgressors in the crowd during these games. If you want a better selection, go to Olympic Cards and Comics in Olympia. If you want a friendlier environment, go to Olympic Cards and Comics in Olympia. If you want to go to a game store, go to Olympic Cards in Comics in Olympia. You won’t be disappointed like you will be if you go to Phoenix Company Cards and Games.

Phoenix is a great place for gamers, geeks and nerdie folks. Being that I’m one of all three of those, you’ll probably find me there one of these dyas: D definitely go. Great prices too.
