Finally made it to «The Wolverine» in downtown Ypsilanti for a early afternoon breakfast. They have been serving food in this turn-of-the-century building since 1928. Its most recent incarnation has the gregarious hippie Kevin(complete with the gray ponytail) in the wheelhouse as the restaurant’s manager. The thing that immediately caught my eye walking through the door was the original late 60s-early 70s rock concert posters framed on the walls of restaurant’s narrow interior. Everyone is here… from acid rockers like Jefferson Ariplane, to the British invasion with the Who and the Stones to the Motown sound with Aretha, the Supremes and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. And you can’t miss the predominant presence of 1969’s Sly and the Family Stone — I mean where ya gonna find a 45 year old poster of Sly in 2015? We ordered a breakfast scramble and a «made to order» omelette which were both good and very typical of breakfast spots in the area. What we really enjoyed about this place was getting to chat with restaurant manager Kevin who stopped by our table. At 62, he is just coming into his own with his most recent endeavor to pull together a Michigan Music Hall of Fame… stay tuned… This hippie just might be able to pull it off. Overall, a unique, fascinating and memorable experience not so much for the food but for the mental trip back to the summer of love.

LOVE the food however the service is always terribly slow… so much I’ve not bothered to go for over a year now. Wish the hours were better as well as the speed of the service.

The service was friendly and that’s about all the good to say. My mother and I both ordered the meat, potato, eggs and toast breakfast. Everything came cold after a long wait yet the eggs had the brown skin of a too hot grill and totally uncooked whites. Egg whites should never be raw no matter what temp you ask for. Some people seem to think over easy allows for it but no. The search for properly cooked eggs continues. The gluten free toast is tasty but was cold and dry. I ordered a second order of the toast which was hot and some of the best gluten free bread I’ve had. So I guess that’s one more positive. The potatoes were cold and bland despite some type of seasoning on them. I did send my eggs back and they were hot and the whites done the second time around but one was perfect and the other had a fully done yolk.(I ordered over medium) One of my children ordered the kid pancake which was so tough we couldn’t cut it. So not a good experience. Two basic adult breakfasts, two kid meals and 2 coffees for $ 26 and all meh. So disappointed:(I should have complained but I was trying to keep my ‘easy like Sunday morning’ vibe and didn’t feel like getting into a froth at the start of my day.

Hey, you piece of trash. The restaurant failed because townie dummies like you
dictate the business. You sound like the owner.
You probably got gentrified out of Ypsi. You sound like you are not attractive, have body odor, moved from a nice town where your TWO parents raised you. One of your kids probably overdosed after sucing dick on Michigan (under done eggs whites)
