Best prices on quality used tires in the area period. Tried a few other places on my other vehicles and was charged about double of what I paid here and didn’t have nearly as good tire and selection… Glad to find a shop up here that isn’t into ripping people off… Fast and friendly service will definitely have my business for my next automotive repair needs

These guys rule! Efficient, fast, quality service is what you get at this vibey, cool lookin Joshua Tree garage. They gave me a great deal on 4 brand spankin new tires not to mention were a joy to chill and chat with. Many thanks to the savvy congenial mechanics of the world, where would we be without them?

THERE IS NO WAY THAT ALL THESE REVIEWS ARE REAL. I just spent $ 1650 at this place and was treated like a piece of crap. They are arrogant and seem ‘untouchable.’ They didn’t freely explain the work they were doing (it felt like I was a huge pain in the ass just for asking and trying to understand and negotiate a price) and when it was done, they didn’t provide any part numbers or warranty info. I purchased two new tires from them and they gave me no options for brand or quality and then overcharged for a crap, no-​name brand.
When I picked up my car and started driving it, I noticed that it was veering right and that the steering wheel was suddenly off-​kilter. I went back to inquire as to what might need to be fixed and they, very rudely and without any sense of care, declared that I «of course would need an alignment after the type of work that they did.» The problem is that they never once mentioned this necessity before doing the work. in other words, they provided a price, $ 1650, for a bunch of work that I assumed meant that the car would be in good working order but nope, it would need additional work at additional cost (in fact, I just got the alignment work done and spent another $ 400). I’m not faulting them for the need that my car has or even necessarily for the cost, I’m complaining that they reeled me in at one price, knowing that I might shop around if it got more expensive and because of this, they purposefully neglected to mention that I would need to spend more money on additional work (the alignment). As for documentation, I again, asked for further printed information representing the parts and labor breakdown and they refused. I asked to speak to the owner, they laughed haughtily and said he would be in the next day. Next day, I go in, two guys are standing behind the counter, I’m the only customer in the place. The one who was not the manager/​owner greeted me by my last name (rude) and started arguing right off the bat. I simply said, «who is the owner?» and he pointed to the other guy, who had kept his head down, sorting through invoices. The owner clearly knew I was there, that I was disappointed with he level of service, and that I was asking to speak to him. He continued to sort through the invoices for the next 5 – 10 minutes while I stood there. He didn’t so much as look up to greet me, nothing. He was ready to pick a fight.
When he was finally done doing whatever he was doing (it very clearly looked like it could have been set aside to at least acknowledge my presence – I was standing no more than 6 feet away from him), he started right off the bat by arguing with me about who I had dealt with upon picking up my vehicle, making completely irrelevant arguments in order to get himself and me fired up. The only thing I was asking for was documentation for parts and labor. He refused and continued to make very hostile and aggressive arguments that were completely irrelevant to the situation. I started feeling threatened as he asked me to step into the back room. These did not seem like men I wanted to get angry so I decided to leave.
I made some phone calls and came back, stepped just inside the door and said, «this is your last chance to provide me with sufficient documentation of the work you did, that’s all I’m asking for, it’s a reasonable request…» They ignored me. I asked once more and they refused.
I have since filed a complaint with BAR (bureau of automotive repair), thankfully upon the advice of another local shop (I would never have known about this very useful resource for consumers of auto repair – if you don’t know about it, now you do and I recommend using it whenever you feel you’ve been ripped off or treated unfairly by a mechanic). We will see what happens.
The bottom line here is that mechanics always have the upper hand because they’re working in a niche market that allows them to take advantage of their customers if they so choose. They know that their customers typically don’t know as much about what they’re purchasing and so mechanics have a choice as to whether to work with integrity, or not. These guys chose not to. I feel taken advantage of and disrespected. At this point, I spent a whole lot of money for service that I do not have any evidence of the work or parts. It seems to me that if they didn’t have something to hide, they wouldn’t be so combative. We will see when BAR finishes their investigation. Until then, my stance is that this place is not to be trusted and that the only reason they have so many good reviews on Unilocal is because they’ve asked friends and relatives to fill them out. I’m certain I’m not the only one who has had a bad experience. This is a small town where most people know one another. I haven’t lived here long enough and not planning on staying to care about my reputation… others probably don’t bother writing up bad reviews because they don’t want to be intimidated by whatever powers that be. We all know how local politics work.

Straight forward, patient, and overall did an awesome job repairing my AC. It’s hard to find a trustworthy and honest auto shop here in the desert. I had a great experience!

Overheated on our way into town on a Wednesday — everyone in town said they wouldn’t be able to get us in till the next Tuesday — the dealership said maybe 3 weeks ! Yikes I’m trying to get home to Oklahoma. J&G was kind enough to work me in Thursday morning — literally at their mercy they were honest and fair — a new thermostat and an oil change and they had us back on the road early the next morning. While waiting in the waiting room I was privy to great customer service listening in on their handling of phone calls and walk in clients — everyone’s concern was met with a very professional response. THANK YOU!

Noticed a tire was punctured while at the Joshua Tree NP ranger station, so I hopped on Unilocal to find a tire repair shop. J & G came up — 8 reviews, 5 stars. Still, with things like this, major hassles can ensue.
Not this time. I pulled up, mentioned to the mechanic that I needed a tire repair, was told to pull into the bay and he and another guy jumped right on it. In fifteen minutes I was driving out with a fixed tire and with my wallet not lightened much at all, even with the extra I added.
I recognize that we may have hit them at a good moment when the bay was empty, but it still was a 5-​star experience, so that’s how my review reads.
J & G is a small shop — not one of the bigger chain outfits. They also do car repairs. I’ll keep that in mind if needed.

Have been to this shop more than twice and I am always impressed with their quality of service and the awesome prices!

Took my car here for a busted cv axel. Quoted the best price by far. Service was quick and honest. True to quoted time and price. But what makes it 5 star? Day after repair, the new axel blows out. Call the shop, they apologize a hundred times, offer to comp towing immediately, fix it very next morning no cost. That’s customer service!!!

Who would’ve thought that getting a flat tire was the best possible thing that could happen to me? But that’s exactly what happened. In the process my toe truck attendant referred me to J and G garage to get a quote for a used tire. Said they had new and used tires had great prices and honest top-​notch service and was the best place in town. So I called and found out I could get a used tire in great shape mounted balanced for $ 40. Then a couple days later I decided I wanted to just go ahead and replace all four tires new and they said I needed rear brakes as well. they gave me a price unbelievable that was less than half of what anywhere else was so thanks guys you just earned another customer for life. Oh, PS they even gave me the $ 40 credit back toward the new tires and brake job. Way to go guys you’re the best

Honest, thorough and great to work with
Took my 86 4runner in because it had a major loss of power. George took his time trouble shooting the issue to really get to the bottom of it and to eliminate as many possibilities as he could. After almost a week of tests and trouble shooting he narrowed it down and now the truck runs great. Better than is ever has since I have owned it… You would think that the bill would have gone through the roof with the time and energy put in to the truck, but George kept his word and the only additions where for the additional parts we ended up replacing. I will take all my cars here from now on. Great guys to work with.

A good mechanic is like having a good friend or a good wife. You know they aren’t going to fuck you over. J & G are exactly that. Fair and honest mechanics who aren’t going to lie about the issues, or gouge you on a price. .
Both John and George are great guys who have performed a few needed repairs to my vehicles.
I have had a crank shaft sensor replaced, new thermostat, oil change, radiator flush and four new tires installed. Every time I felt like they were fair and they didn’t try to add on like most mechanics in our area have been accused of.
Take your car to J & G for repair and walk away knowing the problem is fixed and you weren’t ripped off in the process.

Honest and competitively priced. Here’s how I know; I pulled in with a radiator leak after being told by Jiffy Lube (don’t rely on them) that my radiator was leaking from the bottom and probably needed replacing. John (of J&G for George) quickly identified the problem as being a loosened plastic plug and did not charge me a dime. I also mentioned that another shop in town (Big O) was going to charge me over a grand because of having to remove a manifold to have spark plugs replaced on my Toyota (which I discovered later was not necessary because the plugs were fine and the air filter was the culprit) and John said he’d charge around 600 dollars for replacing my spark plugs versus over 1200 that I was quoted at not only Big O but also Discount Tires. So I can say with confidence that these are the guys to use.
