Albert Park

I enjoyed every minute as we strolled through the park on our way to Auckland Art Gallery. It was an overcast day, but the trees and flowers and even the fountain were beautiful none the less.

Really well located park right in downtown. Lush meadows and huge trees as far as the eye can see.
Lots of benchs, partly shady.
Also a nice place to do all kind of sports but be aware of that bloody steep entryways! You better don’t forget something downstairs…

Albert Park is situated in the hub of Auckland central — residing between Auckland University & Auckland City Art Gallery. The park is a ‘hilly climb’ from Victoria Street (City side) to Princess Street, however worth the hike! CNY (Chinese New Year) is one event that takes over the park annually with majestic Chinese symbolism & art filtered through the entire outdoor space. Amazing park to ‘people watch’; sit & have lunch and/​or coffee in the sunshine or just ponder… There are many trees to climb or shelter under. Wonderful urban sustainable park — full of lush greenery, ‘bird life’ & humans.

Pretty awesome. I was in Auckland a couple weeks back and one of my favourite places was Albert Park, it’s kind of a mysterious hill rising out of the middle of the city covered in majestic old trees that ring the bottom of it and there’s this glorious bald crown where you can sit and feel completely isolated from the rest of the world.
Pro tip: go sit in the giant trees. Climb them. Frolic. Eat your szechuan noodles in them like I did. It will rejuvenate and enhappy you. Enhappy is a word I just made up. Not bad, right?

I have decided this is my favourite part of Auckland’s CBD… beautiful grounds, beautiful surrounding architecture, actual-realistic-parking-you-don’t-need-to-take-out-a-mortage-for close by… and lovely atmosphere all round. Go Auckland!

Toller Park! Es ist war nicht der größte, doch ist er zentral gelegen und hat einige wunderschöné Bäume. Außerdem gibt es an jeder Ecke eine Bank, sodass ein Sitzplatz eigentlich immer in Sichtweite ist. Der Park ist nicht überfüllt, sodass man gut hier mal entspannen kann. Mir wurde allerdings gesagt, dass man nachts hier eher nicht hinkommen sollte…

Free to visit and not to be missed! Albert Park is a beautiful Park located besides the Art Gallery off Kitchener Street. It has a fountain, formal gardens and giant, aged trees for you to enjoy the shade. Popular at lunch time for people on their breaks and also bride and grooms along with their wedding photographers. Watch out for events held at the Park. On Saturday afternoon I met up with friends for the Chinese Latern Festival. The streets surrounding were crowded with eateries and the park was a blanket of people enjoying the free sights of acrobats, martial art and dance displays. I took a picnick and soaked up the atmosphere. The latterns were imaginative. Ideal for everyone!

A perfect place for a picnic; especially if you’re a uni student. It’s a nice little escape from the «hustle and bustle» of the rest of the city… you wouldn’t even know it was so close by. The grass’s softness and greenness levels are satisfactory and the large trees provide more than enough shade. My favourite sculpture is this ugly metal thing that looks like a void into an alternate universe. No play ground here; go climb a tree monkey child (in another dimension oooh).

Good old Albert Park. Considering it used to be the site of an Army Barracks, the amount of mildly deviant behaviour that takes place within its bounds is enough to make the statue of Governor Grey raise an eyebrow from his pedestal.
Many events take place here — from the Lantern festival to J-​Day. There is plenty to look at here — with constantly changing gardens thanks to the efforts of Auckland City Council’s workers. The band rotunda unfortunately doesn’t have bands that often — with the sad demise of bFm’s summer series and a general shift in music events down to Silo Park. It’s still a great place to relax and enjoy the sun, or to surreptitiously indulge before a night out

Albert park may well be the heart of Auckland city.
No shops, no cafes, no vendors, and sitting on the grass has a terrific leveling effect among the classes — whether you’re a student skipping a lecture, a lawyer on her lunchbreak, or a tourist needing a quiet resting spot and some UV rays, we all get equally grass-​stained bums.
I love the fountain especially and how even public parks in Auckland refuse to be level. I like it when the roots of the giant trees bust through the concrete and their old boughs loop down to the ground.
Albert Park also hosts some events, like the Lantern Festival, J-​Day, and the 95bFM Summer Series.

Every great city needs a great central city park. Auckland has Albert Park. Sitting on top of an old volcano, she’s a bit of an uphill hike to get to from Queen Street, but it’s well worth the effort if you’re after a bit of greenery and relaxation with your central city bustle. The place oozes history — each and every statue has a story to tell, and some of the big trees feel like they’ve been there since the dawn of time.
For me, this place has been a second home for me throughout my student years at the UoA. It’s just the loveliest place to come and lie in the sun on the soft grass, and the large student/​worker population in this part of town mean there’s always plenty of people quietly sharing the experience with you. It’s a special place — the image of the fountain, the terracotta paths and the flowerbeds will always be sort of iconic for me.

As a uni student at UoA, I spent *endless* hours here. It is a favourite haunt for city workers, tourists and students alike, the latter of which can most often be found eating lunch/sleeping/(not) studying/​skipping lectures/​canoodling (I am happy to say I was *not* part of that last category). It is very popular simply because it is a place of beauty and green right smack bang in the middle of the busy city. It has a fountain and is full of trees and pretty plants, as well as sculptures (including one that resembles a giant protractor — perhaps this is supposed to represent the two educational institutes it neighbours?) The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it is made up of steep paths and hills. As a uni student, lugging my bag/​textbooks up those hills on a hot day was the bane of my existence. Or perhaps I am just lazy.
