Café Mamasonga’s was a delightful, culinary diversion. The tropical salad was amazing! Healthy, tasty, and well-prepared dinners. The seven or eight iguanas were quite the mealtime mascots. It was fun locating them in the surrounding trees at dusk, when they nest in for the night.

One star because I need to offset this 4-star rating, but should really be a 2. Small portions and frozen then fried foods. Bloody Mary was good, but the margaritas and daiquiris are premixed corn syrup. Please head across the street to Als Mar Azul for descent food and better(and cheaper) drinks.

If you’re in hangry, gotta-eat-now mode, go to Mamasonga and enjoy. But if you’re on a vacation and want to hit on as many unique and good local meals as you can find, skip this place and never look back. We were somewhere in the middle of those two moods; we had reservations the next few nights for good meals so figured it would be okay to sort of drop in here and give it a shot. The Unilocal food photos made everything look pretty average at best, so we knew what we were getting into. The experience was just lacking. The wait staff took forever(not a big deal, our guest house manager just told us everything is on island time), and it was pretty dark where we were sitting. The food was airport restaurant quality. It’s overpriced, and it’s not memorable in the slightest. I had fish and chips and they were bleh. I mean I ate them but didn’t think they were very good. My wife had the crab cake and it was okay. All in all, way overpriced for what the quality of food is and a totally forgettable meal. We had been having fun drinks at a restaurant across the street and would’ve been better off with some bar fare there for sure.

This place was recommended to us by some locals. Very chill upstairs patio. The table bread with garlic butter is amazing! Each dinner dish comes with bread, salad, mashed potatoes and corn. Great prices too. Please note, it’s cash only.

Went there twice during my stay in vieques, the food was good but a tad over priced. The first time the service was great, it was around lunch time, I loved my burger. The second time around we went during dinner time and the service was slow. The drinks are similarly priced as other places and good. It’s kinda cool to go during the daytime and watch the nearby iguanas that like to lounge about.

I’ve been coming to Vieques since 1985 and HAVE never eaten here. I’m trying to figure out why. First, it’s on the same block as the ferry terminal and I only used the ferry once, on my first visit. There’s not much street appeal to it, so it’s easy to drive by. And parking is a challenge. And after eating lunch there today, I know why it wasn’t on my radar. It has a large rooftop bar. It serves real cold beer. And very inexpensive mixed drinks. Like $ 3 inexpensive. And the bartender speaks English cause he’s American. And the menu is, as our server described it «fast food but cooked». And it seems to attract mostly American tourists and others who want«fast food cooked» American type food. Burgers. Salads. Tuna Salad Sandwich. Fish and Chips. No beans on this menu. No tostones. No maduros. No pork chop. No arepas. And no Medalla! A sin, a real sin. It’s like, «oh honey, I just got off that oppressive ferry and I’m exhausted and hungry and I want FOOD. A BURGER. AND A COLDBEER. AND A $ 3. MARGARITA.(Pick your language). Or «oh honey, we gotta wait on that line to get our ferry ticket. And then wait for it to board. And then get to Farjardo. Oh honey, I need some food!» That all being said, the food was good, the portions large and it’s 4 hours later and I’m not belching so it was cool. 4 star cool. But I wouldn’t go back cause I want some Puerto Rican tastes and flavors to my food in Puerto Rico. And I don’t want to be surrounded by Americans. Oh, the giant iguana was super cool. I really wished he/she had jumped onto our table and scared the guys(Americans) I was with. Im sure they would have gasped and said«oh honey, I’m scared».

This was the first place we tried in Vieques and we liked it. The drinks were really good. We tried the crab cakes and the seafood stew. Both these dishes were excellent to eat here than to-go. Leftovers didn’t taste as good later in the day. Unlike, mainland US most of these places on the island work on cash.

Ordered fried shrimp basket, onion rings, and seafood stew. I knew not to expect much since this place was a bar, but they actually charged me $ 15 for 5 shrimp that they call a shrimp«basket». Very Small portions, but at least the food didn’t taste bad.

We really liked this little rooftop place in Isabel II. We sat at the bar on the back side, which is the best place to watch all the iguanas in the trees behind the bar! The bartender was so nice and we also chatted with some really friendly locals. Drinks were great; crab cake sandwich was nice. Nothing earth shattering, but we loved watching the iguanas.

The food was ok and it is kid friendly but it was very expensive $ 100 for 3. The drinks were not strong it was more like juice and a lot of ice. I also felt like they over charge on the tax.

We loved this place. Came here for breakfast(only a few times that are actually breakfast) and lunch. Friendly staff. Super down to earth vibe. Food is amazing and not too pricey at all. Sit at an end table and take in the view of the water or lizards crawling around. Must try steak sandwich!

Super friendly service both times we visited. Rather slow — but is the Caribbean. Beautiful view across the water. We really enjoyed the fish stew and the hospitality which was probably some of the friendliest we experienced on the Island.

We must have gone during a slow time. We ate upstairs and only saw a handful of others at the bar. That always makes me suspicious, but we were pleasantly surprised. The bartender/server/owner(?) was friendly. We had a seafood stew which was actually very tasty. The coconut shrimp was just ok as I felt that the batter was too heavy. The prices were decent. It was CASHONLY which we didn’t know about until we got there. Unfortunately we didn’t see any iguanas as the sun set, but I would definitely come again during the day to eat here and look for them :)

This place is right on the ocean and has a good view from its upstairs patio area. It’s definitely not a locals place but the salads were great and drinks were decent. The coconut shrimp were very sweet but still tasty.

Had a great lunch here that consisted of a crab cake sandwich and a blackened fish sandwich with fries. Fresh bread and crisp fries and sandwich with nice lettuce and nice tomatoes(sometimes both are hard to find on islands!!) and habenero sauce. But the best part was the bartender/server Oscar! What an asset for this café! Super personable, friendly, polite, and attentive without being intrusive! Made up for having to drive around for a parking spot. I had said let’s forget this but my brother in law insisted we try one more street. And then Oscar made the whole thing super worth the hassle of the parking. Two caveats, one, they don’t serve breakfast anymore and two, they only take cash. Also, the portions were very generous and the upstairs patio and bar made a nice viewing area. The giant iguana was a great attraction too. Great experience!

Located right across the ferry terminal is this rooftop eatery and bar. While my main was the blackened fish, this review is primarily to praise the burger! The blackened fish is well spiced, and not too overwhelming like traditional cajun style blackened fish. On the side you have mashed potatoes and a piece of corn on the cob slathered with butter. Now for the burger… One way to describe it is a patty of little juicy beef chunks that would be just wrong to call it ground beef. Couple that with melted cheese, local bread, and a healthy dollop of mayonnaise and you got yourself a meal to get you through the night. Of course there’s the obligatory lettuce, tomato and onion — just to keep it on the light and healthy side. Imbibe some local beers meet the friendly staff and bartender, and start your evening right.

Just what I look for when on vacation! A mellow, outdoor bar with laid back and friendly bartenders, reggae music in the background, overlooking the ocean. Blackened fish sandwich was yummy

Cash only, but great iguana watching from the rooftop. I had a steak sandwich that I thought was one of the best meals I ate over the three days on the island. Delicious caramelized onions and bell peppers on less than stellar bread still made for a great sandwich.

For whatever reason, our host didn’t give high reviews to Mamasonga but we came here anyway and saw the BIGGEST iguanas! Apparently they live in the grove by the café and are used to getting handouts from tourists. As soon as one appears, feed it and you’ll start noticing them crawling out from the trees. They are cash-only so my lunch options were limited by how much cash I had. However, they did have $ 3 bloody mary’s… and you know, a little bit of cash will go a long way for $ 3 bloody’s. Pina coladas were also excellent but didn’t have as appealing of a price tag.
