We’ve recently moved to Fiveways, and were on the hunt for a new favourite place to get a Sunday roast. Preston Park Tavern has filled that role amazingly well. Roasts are served until 6pm, which is great for our slackadaisical approach to Sunday. They come with cauliflower cheese, which always makes me a happy bunny. I love that they have an open kitchen. Book in advance if you can.

Part of the reason I moved to the Fiveways areas was that the Preston Park Tavern is the local. However, it then changed hands. I was nervous, but actually the new version is in many ways more welcoming and more accessible. The original was more of a gastro pub, but now it’s more ‘pub’. The food has so far been excellent. The Sunday lunch was so good we went two Sundays on the trot. Also their burger is spot on. The staff have always been very friendly and welcoming to us, even with our toddler in tow. They also advised us in a friendly way that Children weren’t allowed after a set time(I can’t remember if it was 7 or 8pm though). I know people have moaned about this, but I think it’s a good idea to turn the pub over to the adults and for parents to be forewarned. You can also just have a drink here which is great as the original version made that a little awkward. Well done Preston Park Tavern team on the new version.

Preston Park Tavern recently has been remodeled and the menu also has changed. There’s a good selection of dishes and desserts. It’s more of a home-like setting inside with a nice back garden. I had a Sunday roast here and a friend had a pub burger with steak chips. Their roasted chicken was cooked really well and the dish also included a large Yorkshire pudding, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and cheese, and snow peas topped with flavourful gravy. My friend’s burger was large and served with a generous portion of steak chips. She definitely had no complaints either! The prices here are reasonable and staff are friendly. Glad to see this place improve. This might just be our main pub across the road!

The Preston Park Tavern recently went through another makeover and changed owners. With this came a direction towards a more«pub» orientated venue, rather than the more restaurant focused it was before. The new menu is meant to be more«pub grub» rather than semi posh food it served before. It delivered reasonably well on flavour but the dishes all seemed to be very uneven portions. I opted for the halloumi which came with a strange Asian dipping sauce which didn’t really work but the rest of my party seemed to have pretty good meals. We went on a Friday night which was insanely busy. The problem with moving away from being a restaurant first, pub second is that the regulars aren’t aware of this. Think they need to have more tables to ensure they can fit everyone who wants to eat. Think the revamp is promising, just a few tweaks and should be good!

Went in here for a drink whilst out with Brighton Branch of the family. Very nice place and so bright/lively. The food coming out at lunchtime looked gorgeous, especially the Roast Skate. and the aroma was ok too. Could be seen as pricey,(for someone on fixed income/stretched budget), as a sandwich will set you back nearly £6! Lunchtime menu. Starters average about £5, mains about £10 and desserts ranging £4.50 £7 for a cheeseboard. Drinks fairly priced and average for the area. Evening menu is more expensivestarters from £5 up £6.45, mains from £12 £18.50 and desserts from £4.50 £7.00. Most side are about £3.00. Nice to drop in after a stroll around the park!!!

We used to love this place. But our last visit was over six months ago. The portions were laughably small. The waitress then decided to argue when we queried the portions. Shame.

Good food but more of a restaurant than a pub

I do prefer the ‘old boozer’ end of the market as I am always suspicious of places with high end décor such as the Preston Park Tavern — it basically mans they slap on another £5 to everything on the menu. The food is pretty nice in here money aside, we had a really nice Sunday roast and couldn’t complain at all. The staff are nice and friendly and do everything they can to help. The building itself is beautiful and very inviting indeed. Just needs a bit more charm in my opinion which unfortunately you can’t paint on!

Preston Park Tavern is a posh nosh pub, offering proper pub grub but in high end restaurant environment. Its table service and very family orientated so don’t rock up with your mates expecting bloody marys and shots. The décor reflects the posh vibe, with a kind of boutique hotel look. Its a winner for a family roast, although book ahead because its a popular place.

While this is certainly not a traditional pub, it does what it intends to do very well, which is to serve high quality food in a high quality environment. I visited on a Sunday, in order to sample their roast dinner. The menu was certainly a cut above the average pub roast menu(albeit with a slightly higher price tag of around £10 per main to match). There was a selection of starters available for around £5 each, although I skipped these in favour of the main course. I’m glad I did, as portions were generous and the quality superb — the roast beef I had was meltingly tender, and everthing was cooked perfectly(no soggy vegetables or bisto gravy here!). As well as the good food, the wine list seemed to be extensive, although I let people more expert than I deal with that department! If you’re looking for a traditional rowdy pub atmosphere, this is probably not the place for you. Most of the clientele were families when I visited. However, if you want good food and good wine and something between a pub and a restaurant, you’ll love it.

The Preston Park Tavern is situated just behind Preston Par, funnily enough, and offers an up market looking pub with a sort of boutique hotel vibe. The interior has a traditional feel about it as its an old building and has probably been a boozer for year, but the décor is über trendy with paisley wall paper, groovy lamp shades and swish patterned matériel covering all the seats. The menu offers modern British dishes like lamb chops and bubble and squeak, all seasoned deliciously. Its slightly more expensive at around £12 for a main but it worth every penny not only for the food but the gorgeous location.

Preston Park Tavern has such a great feel when you walk through the door– high ceilings, huge windows, light colors and lovely wooden tables and chairs. If you have a bit of cash it’s a perfect place to have a weekend lunch or dinner– the food is restaurant quality pub food with a twist. My boyfriend has several times demanded that we go here for a special occasion so that he can revel in their steak and chips, which I have on good authority is excellent. A treat though at more than fifteen pounds on its own. There is always a delectable vegetarian option that I plump for and which more than satisfies. It gets busy on weekends, which I quite like– we go and, if lucky, grab an armchair and drink coffee and share chips. On a weekday it’s a good place to go with some work to have a drink. It’ s also a fully fledged pub with decent beer.
