So, I’ve been in here a few times. It is a default choice for students from the Arts & Humanities and Music buildings. It is always busy and buzzing and you often have to fight for a seat. They have a huge selection of fillings, brown, white and granary baguettes and they don’t skimp on the fillings. They have easy to follow menus and it is really rather pleasant ordering. However, the service can be really quite slow and occasionally the younger staff can be painfully slow. I’m also never quite sure about the use of the gloves in places like this. On one hand, but then both hands are used for food and money? I don’t really mind, but its a question I’ve often asked while waiting. Oh and don’t try and get a coffee and a baguette — that does tend to cause a queue. However, saying all that, the food is good(I always have the coronation chicken — yummy) the coffee is nice and the staff are always really friendly. You could do far worse and with the only other non-university place to eat being pubs it is a nice way to avoid deep fried ‘pub grub’.

It may not look like much from the outside but don’t be fooled, the inside of this popular sandwich shop is bright and welcoming, and it’s not hard to see why it’s a local favourite. Kappuccino’s offers an impressively large selection of fillings for baguettes, sandwiches or panini, and you can also get baked potatoes and salad boxes if you’re not feeling the sandwich-y love. Hot and cold drinks are available, as are a variety of crisp flavours and several delicious cakes and pastries. The muffins in particular come highly recommended(and they’re huge which is always a bonus), and if you fancy a giant cookie or a cup-cake with really funky icing then look no further. Price-wise Kappuccino’s does very well, with baguettes generally being little more than £2 and several meal deal offers to choose from. A fiver in here will feed you well for a lunchtime, and you can either eat in or take away depending on the crowd and the availability of seating. If you get one of the tall window-facing seats then you can also enjoy a spot of people watching if you’re that way inclined. The shop is open until mid-to-late afternoon and lunchtimes can get quite busy so it may be wise to come just before or just after the normal lunch hour. This way you can avoid any lunchtime rush and can still get most of the fillings before they’ve run out, which they can do once you hit mid-afternoon.

This is a little café in Cathays near Lidl(or is it Aldi? I always, always get those two confused…). I’m not sure that I’ve ever quite got this place, perhaps there are fans of this place out there, but I’m not really one of them. Sorry Kappuccinos. This café does, however, always appear to be quite full, and this is most likely due to the mass populace of students in the area, rather than anything else. They deal in cheap and simple foods, you know the sort of standard café fare? Sandwiches, cakes and coffees. A small amount of money will get you quite a lot, and while the food is okay, I wouldn’t personally recommend the coffee, as the last one I had was made with burnt milk and coffee. Yum. Cathays is a busy and bustling little area of student Cardiff, and so there are far nicer cafes round about.

This is a great little café and sandwich shop right in the heart of studentville, and near several of the University’s buildings — including the huge Humanities library. They do take-away or you can sit inside, and as its name suggests you can enjoy a decent cup of coffee — although they also serve up plenty of decent brunch and lunchtime fare such as paninis, baguettes, and so on — but best of all, they bake their own cakes — particularly muffins and biscuits — on site. With so many students passing to and fro past this café, it has a fantastic location and it’s no surprise the place is often so busy — with few seats available, they go pretty fast at lunchtime, but you can usually grab a pew at other times.

I used to pass Kappucinos every day on my walk to work and a freshly made muffin and a coffee became my breakfast staple! The choice of sandwiches and fillings for lunch and also the cakes, biscuits and pastries is great, and the atmosphere is nice and chilled. Ideal for meeting up with friends for a catch-up, or equally grabbing a take away.

Really good sandwich shop, I developed a bit of an unhealthy addiction to their lemon muffins and now have to make myself walk past every morning and not go in! If you get there at the right time(or if you are just plain lucky) the muffins will have just come out of the oven and will still be a bit warm mmmm. Otherwise, they do really nice baguettes and panini’s — although if you are taking them away my panini last time took ages to cook. It was however really nice, with the right amount of cheese in it! Gets really busy during the day and yes the seats go pretty quickly, although you can often grab a perch on one of the window stools.

Kappucino’s is a great little sandwich shop/café right by the humanities building and ASS Library of Cardiff Uni. It is thus pretty damn popular and can get busy of a lunchtime. However, its totally worth it as their baguettes and bagels are fab and really reasonably priced. They also do the BEST muffins and other delightful sweet things. A few seats available but they go fast.
