I very rarely make a impulsive purchases for myself and I can count the amount of times I have made impulsive purchases for other people on two fingers. One of those times was at Pethaus Bychain. It was a gold and glass lamp for my mothers birthday. I saw it in the window, popped in and paid £70 for it(reduced from £120) there an then. I don’t know why I acted so decisively I just did. There are lots of nice little bit in this shop, on the whole they are a little more expensive than Ikea but more exclusive and more sophisticated too. The staff were pleasant and I always look in the window when I go past just incase I see something else that takes my eye and if you’re a fan of quality bits for the home then I’d recommend you do the same. By the way my mother loved the lamp.

Pethau Bychain translated means«small things». It’s nice to see shops with Welsh names within Wales from time to time, it reminds us where we are. This shop sells small items for all around the house, from candle stick holders to fake flowers and even the not so small items such as sofas. It’s a great shop to buy a present for someone especially a house warming gift, but that’s where it ends really. The quality doesn’t go far enough to go the full whack and buy a sofa. Very popular with nan’s and granddads though, there’s always an excuse for them to go and buy a little something extra for the house!

This charming shop is the only location near the waterfront where you can purchase furniture and other items for your home, making it a welcomed reprieve from all the surrounding restaurants and bars in the Mermaid Quay area. Pethau Bychain offers everything you’d need to glam up your home, packing a range of home accessories into a modest showroom space — you can spend a considerable amount of time in here browsing the furniture, lamps, kitchen ware and other knick knacks — there’s even a child’s bedroom display in the back corner! The ladies behind the desk left me to meander(I really hate pushy sales people, so I’m regarding that as a positive thing), but were especially kind and happy to chat with me when approached. The only downside is that it’s quite expensive by my standards(charity shops or IKEA, anyone?), but if you’ve got the cash to spend, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t stop by Pethau Bychain to see what’s on offer.

Pethau Bychain(«Little Things» in Welsh) sells, as its translated name suggests, lots of lovely little things. Most of these are for your home, and many of them would make nice presents. From practical items such as kitchenware, crockery and glassware to interior products such as fabrics, furniture, lamps and mirrors, you could deck out much of your home here if your pockets are deep enough. It’s quite expensive, however, and despite browsing I’ve never found myself actually buying anything here. Still, it’s a welcome addition to Mermaid Quay, which until recently was very much focused on eating and drinking, with few shops of very much interest to look around. The owners also offer an interior design service, if you want to splash out even more making your home beautiful!

Pethau Bychain translates as Little Things and the aim of this shop is to provide you with all those little things that make your house a home. They conveniently sell plenty of gifty items perfect for all the visitors. I personally can’t afford much but I really enjoy going and having a look and dreaming about what one day my house will be decorated like. Funnily enough they have an interior design service too perfect for all the millions of apartments that are still springing up in the area. The lady who works there must know by now that I’m not going to buy anything, but she still says hello and offers her assistance.
