I organised a trip to Clockwork Beer Co for a tour for Paul M’s birthday. It’s a brewery that also has a biggish pub attached where they serve food as well as their own ales. When I called ahead to say we were going to be a bit late the person I spoke to was confused — this was a Tuesday, they don’t do tours on Tuesday’s because it’s their brewing day. Clearly someone had made a mistake when booking us in. Slightly panicked, I asked if it was going to be a problem. «Ach, no, don’t you worry, we’ll sort it out.» I was concerned but I needn’t have been. We arrived and we seated and brought a couple of 1⁄3rd pint tasters each and told to relax for a bit while our tour guide went to set things up. Soon he returned and, insisting we brought our beers with us gave us a great tour of the brewery. It’s so tiny and perfect! he was really well informed too, so even though I’ve been on a few brewery tours now, I still felt like I learned something new. Afterwards we settled back at our table and ordered food. I got an amazing chicken caesar salad which included what can only be described as an obscene quantity of parmesan(absolutely a good thing) while Paul chose a lush looking burger. While we waited for our food, our guide brought us six more taste beers to share… then another two he’d forgotten about… then a free pint glass souvenir each. I was starting to worry that the bill might run a bit high — we’d booked for a tour with tour with samplers and a main dish which should come to £10 a head, but we’d tasted quite a lot of beer now. Not that I would have begrudged paying for it, it was lovely, but I was starting to expect to pay extra. Either way, if we’d had more time we would have kept the tab running and ordered another pint of their Hampden Roar beer, which was probably my favourite. As it was, we had to get the bill and dash. It didn’t cost anything extra. The whole time we were there we got incredible service, especially given that it wasn’t normally a tour day, and everything we tasted was brilliant. I can’t recommend this tour enough and I might even try to find an excuse to go on it again. I’ll definitely be back to the pub for more food and delicious beer.

The Clockwork is a brew pub– it makes its own beer which it serves on tap. You can see into the brewery and they also offer tours occasionally. They serve a rotating range of guest real ales and have a lot of lagers and bottled beers. We were only in for drinks on this occasion, but we enjoyed our artisan beers. I was also impressed that they have a list of wines noting allergen information. The seating in this pub can be hard to come by, the upstairs area is not always open(or can be reserved for private parties). There are seats in the front of the building but a lot of the other areas seem to be dining only. You used to be able to sit anywhere at any time. It can also be very busy as it is near Hamden, and they also have big screens for sport so I would suggest that you don’t go in when there is big games on if you don’t want to watch! I sadly can only give the Clockwork Beer Co three stars, we remember what it used to be like and it feels a bit corporate now in comparison as the menu is very standard compared to what it use to be like(they used to sell tuna steak but now it is much more ‘fried’ and ‘microwaved’ type food, which is fine but just not as good as it used to be, in my opinion. They also used to have an extensive Belgian beer list, which is now much more limited, and they used to sell posh juices in lots of flavours(called ‘Looza’, I think they were also Belgian) which they appear not to have now). All this said we do still visit occasionally. It is a good place to catch up with friends as it is on a trainline and several bus routes.

Recommended to visit and got there just in time to see the We are in the good beer guide 2015 sign go up. Inside it’s much more of an eatery than a bar but it’s clean modern reasonably comfortable. Has a large selection of real and craft ale available. Quite sports orientated but then again Hampden Park is a short walk away.

I haven’t been here in years — last time we visited for food and I remember being a little disappointed. But we were having dinner with the in-laws at Sapori D’Italia and decided to meet her for a pre-drink. It’s a very beer/sports pub, which is totally fine by me. They were showing the tennis so it was nice to be able to catch a glimpse of Scotland’s hero, Andy Murray while we chatted over drinks. I had a glass of zinfandel rosé which was nice and sweet like I like it, and just over £4 for a small glass which isn’t too bad. Overall, I’d say it’s a decent place to go if you’re looking for beers or watching sport. That’s not really something I do a lot which is why I haven’t been in so long. That being said, I like that Clockwork brew their own beers and I’d be quite keen to go back for a sampling session soon.

Lovely bar well staffed and excellent service Food is bar food and the chicken noodle soup was excellent The main course was ok — the macaroni could have had a bit more sauce and the fish and chips was a wee bit too greasy — they serve the chips in a small bucket lined with grease proof paper — would be better if the paper absorbed the fat instead of retaining it so for me ditch the grease proof paper and stick in a piece of paper towel lol Awaiting for our desserts

I miss-spent my late teens/early twenties hanging out here with friends — the Thursday night quiz was legendary! Fast forward 10 years, and the Clockwork has had a complete makeover. It’s also expanded from just bar snacks, to having a full restaurant menu. Not to mention the huge selection of standard and craft beers. We only popped in for a quick pint on the way home, but I had a serious case of the munchies so grabbed a sharing platter of nachos. Which were pretty tasty. If we had more time, it’s somewhere I could happily spend a few hours.

Had family lunch here yesterday. Really nice, good service and not extortionate! Son wanted chickpea & spinach burger. It wasn’t available so he had a vegetable burger which was chargrilled. He really enjoyed it. I had chicken tikka masala. It didn’t taste like masala, or look like it but the chicken was tender and it wasn’t unpleasant so I wired in! Hubby had hot dog and my bruv had a pizza. We all enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. Bill was just over £35 for the four of us including our soft drinks. Think this may be a regular haunt!

Good but I’ve had better, I’m sad to say they weren’t as good as I had been lead to believe. I visited for a lunchtime snack and a quick beer. I was greeted by a lovely open dining area large bar and good choice of drinks. I decided to have a beer while I pondered their menu to decide what might catch my fancy. The first beer I had was their own red ale, It was a passable beer with nice body but poor head. I found their menu to be very uninspiring, not bad but nothing that really stood out and said WOW. If anything this made the choice harder as I would have happily eaten most things on the menu. I settled with their steak sandwich with a side of their onion rings, It seemed to take an age for their waitress to make her rounds to take an order so I had finished my drink and ended up ordering at the bar. Food was delivered in a reasonable time and was all well cooked. in fact the steak in the sandwich was a little overcooked for my liking but who am I to say. They could have done with a bit of seasoning on the the chips and onion rings but that again is a personal choice. The sandwich was served in a ciabatta roll with softened red onions, a side salad and chunky skin on chips. The building itself is massive with the ability to seat and cater for large groups and parties. It’s only downside is the location is a little hard to find and parking is even worse. All in all they served an average meal and the service was ok. I was expecting more after friends had indicated much better service and beer in the past. I will no doubt give them another go and report back.

An odd thing, Clockwork; a brew pub that you visit because it has a excellent range of bottled beers and guest ales. Its own beers were all off this evening but never mind, as there are plenty of alternatives. We went with friends who have a baby and Clockwork has a large family area. The food is nothing to write home about — deep-fried pub fare — but it is a nice space with a skylight and plenty of wrought iron work. We’d visit again for a drink because it’s a friendly neighbourhood bar on the southside but I’m not sure we’d bother with food next time.

clockwork is one of my favourite, if not my very favourite pub in the southside. what makes this place so good? –two different sports channels can be shown at once –they brew their own beer –they sell real ale –they sell their own beer –they have a great selection of belgian fruit beers –you can use your camra voucher for 50p off their beer –the food is decent and good value, especially with the offers available –it’s got an outside bit for those 5 days in glasgow it is sunny and warm enough to drink outside

One of the few places in Glasgow you can actually get a fireside seat, which is an immediate bonus. They have their own brewery here, and the resulting ales are definitely worth a taste. And I’m not even an ale drinker! It has a slight Wetherspoons vibe, but you get music here, and the locals are much more savoury than your average ‘spoons. The food isn’t so great, and despite Clockwork describing itself as a gastropub, I would give the un-inspirational menu a swerve. It’s overpriced and very disappointing on the taste buds too. Have enough home-brewed beers tho and you might change your mind!

So after 6 years of knowing of this bar I finally braved the elements and tackled the jungle of Glasgow… ok i got a train into town then got the 66 bus to clockwork because I couldn’t be arsed walking there. So after my faithful metal stead got me to my destination the excitement of finally getting to try this bar after hearing a lot about it from my many visits to the Paisley ale festival was at its peak. I was expecting to be blown away and be giving this a 4⁄5 or 5⁄5 rating. I am actually disappointed I cant give it that rating because of the hype about this bar. The bar lay out and look is that of any sort of gastro pub with the wooden interior and modern layout encompassing a restaurant area and the«drinkers» seated area. The food menu was just as standard and did not have anything other than the«haggis bites» jumping out at me. The haggis bites were just basically haggis pakora. I agree with the previous reviews regarding the atmosphere: nothing special. The staff were very pleasant and had a good knowledge of what was on sale. I eagerly jumped into trying the home brewed ales and lager. I unfortunately was unable to complete the list of home brews due to the fact i got a taster of the ginger ale that they sold. It was so flat it could have been water with a hint of ginger flavouring through it so I decided against buying a pint. Having attended to the Paisley ale festival for the last 6 years now I have a reasonable understanding of why ales tend to cost more than the local drivel known as tenants. You are paying for what should be of higher quality and better tasting ale(whether you happen to like the particular ale is of ones own choice) so i believe the clockwork prices to be fair in that respect. I would visit this bar again but I am not in a hurry.

Right a wee review of my local. It’s awrite nowt to shout about to be honest. Don’t get me wrong it is a smart bar. The food here is lovely although typical pub fayre. They also have their own micro brewery. I got a pint of their lager(was as flat as a witches t*t) the staff were great and changed it. They have a cool wee beer garden for the smokers. The place does lack atmosphere. But not bad for the odd pint and pub grub now and again.

I’ve not tried the food here(we did actually occupy a table in an attempt to order dinner but the waitress service was a tad slow so we just drank up and went elsewhere) but based on the bar service, atmosphere and range of products on offer(beer-wise at least) my first impression of the place is very favourable and a return visit to make better use of the beer-garden and to sample their own brews is a distinct likelihood.

I like this place. I used to love Japanese animation where a robot was combined with a car and a tarantula. Tarantula-tron. They would take the best bits of all of these things and make something very cool and usually destructive to Tokyo suburban neighbourhoods. Clockwork could be called Brew-Euro-Pub-Tron. Don’t ask me what it is about the Southside of Glasgow but they do have some nice places down here. Clockwork has its own brewery and the ales it produces are pretty good. Worth a taste, if you go. Add some amazing European imported beers on the rail and in the fridges, it starts to get better. Finally, it has a decent atmosphere and during the summer, a reasonable beer garden. All of these things make this worth a trip. It is a little expensive as a local. The micro-brewed beers are not as cheap as they should be and the imported ales can get expensive. But when you are here, you really don’t want to be sipping on Tennents with this selection on offer. Finally, big screens for sports, makes this a reasonable place to watch a game, if you are into that sort of thing.

As my boyfriend knows only too well, when I don’t eat frequently and get beyond the hungry stage I am g.r.u.m.p.y. I can’t help it — my stomach aches and I feel I can’t talk, walk or even sit until I get food which I need IMMEDIATELY. I was at this stage when I visited the Clockwork. Knowing I was about to become unbearable, my boyfriend carted me off here, the nearest place to obtain fooooooood. I spotted a deal straight away — buy one get one free on burgers — and we both opted for that(I chose a chicken burger) and bounded to the bar to order. We were told to take a seat and someone would come over and take our order. Oh my, they took their sweet time(although this may have been prolonged in my mind due to my delicate mood) and it felt like forever as I watched more and more food exiting the kitchen before ours arrived. It was busy though and I was not in the mood for being reasonable. The big plateful we got was fantastic though — served with loads of chips, salad and coleslaw. I couldnt enjoy the first half from stuffing it in to my mouth so quickly but I could tell it was very good and great value for money at 2 for 1. It went down nicely with a can of diet coke(I really do like it when places serve cans instead of bottles or draft). We’ve vowed to go back when I’m not so ravenous and I’m sure I will be raving even more so about it then. I can’t comment on the beer but I’ve heard that people come here especially when visiting Glasgow for their home-brewed beers so if that’s your thing then you should definitely pop in.

A former local of mine, I’ve been in the Clockwork a good few times, and while it’s adequate for a few beers, it’s a little bit soulless and lacking in atmosphere. They have their own microbrewery and thus a good selection of home brewed booze. I’ve only tried the ginger beer which to be honest wasn’t as nice as it sounded, but theres a lot more, as well as bottles of banana, raspberry and cherry flavoured beers which are tasty enough. There’s a food menu as well which dishes out fairly standard stuff. Okay but unexceptional.
