The Langside closed sometime in 2014. Now a Sainsbury’s supermarket. Great pub in its time. Was at its closing night. Wish I’d taken inside photos. Oh well. I’m sure I’ve got one of the outside.

This bar is a local spot popular with the students of Glasgow Clyde College’s Langside campus. It’s cheap, cheerful, cozy, comfy with reasonable food deals. It’s a little bit Wetherspoony, but with more atmosphere and music playing… and a juke box. One of those places that nobody could find objectionable, and it’s great for a relaxing afternoon of libation sipping, but not the most amazing bar. But most locals are a bit like that! My sister and I stopped in here because we were too lazy to walk all the way from mine to the Clockwork that wet Sunday afternoon, when the pure effort of leaving the house was almost Herculean. We had a lovely shared platter of Nachos with all the trimmings, and a few cheeky cocktails. We toyed with munching on something more, but dinner was already planned. It was very easy to relax and have a chat here, with no rushing, it’s just so comfy! The bar staff were lovely, too, and up for a bit of banter. It’s kind of sad that, by what I’m hearing from my neighbours, this bar has now been bought by a supermarket chain(either Sainsbury’s or Tesco, I can’t remember which). All of the wee cheap and cheerful bars in the Battlefield area seem to be disappearing! So if you’re going to visit this place, better do it fast, because it won’t be around too much longer. But I’m definitely going to try and come back before then.

Visited this Pub before and after the St Mirren v Celtic semi-final football match on 27th Jan. I’d gone along previous Thurs to check the opening times and get a feel for the place as a few mates were coming through from Paisley and we wanted somewhere handy for Hampden to have a few drinks. Spoke with the barman and he was extremely helpful. So much so that he offered to reserve a table for us before the match. A nice gesture bearing in mind he had never met my friends or myself before. The barstaff were also chatty and helpful on the day of the match. They also offered on the day of the game to reserve our table on our return after the match. So I give the Langside a 5⁄5 for customer service. The pub has not changed much in terms of layout since I drank there in the late 80’s when it was called«The Mission». The Langside is clean and has a casual feel to the furnishings and décor. Although the pub was not overly busy there was still a good atmosphere and most of my mates were happy enough to return after the game. I’d give it 4⁄5 re the atmosphere and interior. It seemed to be fairly well stocked in terms of what alcohol you would expect to be available in a pub and the prices seemed reasonable for a Glasgow pub. Beer is my usual pub tipple and perhaps my only disappointment was the lack of any cask real ales. However the guiness, lager and Belhaven Best served to us was in good order. I’d give the beer and prices 3.5÷5 All in all enjoyed The Langside and we are already making plans to return on the 17th March for the final.
