One must never soil where one is likely to dine regularly. To put that bluntly, you should never sh… you get it. I was reminded of this today by a stern ear twisting. Having now visited Sharkeys almost regularly on Friday lunch times for a swift pint and a sandwich I believe an update is in order, and perhaps a couple of explanations. The ‘grey meat pie’ is a simple store bought scotch pie. I like them, and it’s hard to find places that still serve them. There is, however, on the menu a homemade steak pie for those with a more discerning palate. I am led to believe that this is rather good. I can’t vouch for this myself as pies, no matter the colour, are off the menu due to a commitment to shed some belly. I can tell you that the baguettes are very good, freshly made. As are the baked tatties and the chili dogs, burgers. In fact most, if not all of the menu is freshly prepared in the small kitchen which is in plain view of the bar and it is all very very good value for money. The service is, 99 times out of 100, prompt and always friendly. My last review may have given the impression that this was not the case, but that was a one off. In fact, I was told after that one busy lunch time that I could phone my order in before heading over if it’s that busy again. Fair play, well handled. Unfortunately I still haven’t been in here of an evening, but I am led to believe it can be lively, especially during a green kickball team match, and I mean the good kind of lively, not the fisty kind of lively. This is a family run business, not a bland windyspoons or a try hard oh’neils, and we like that around these here parts.

A pub that doesn’t look too great from the outside and not exactly located in the greatest of areas either. But a usual haunt for students who are studying in Glasgow college of nautical studies. So if you want to meet some sailors or just fancy some cheap booze then this is a place possibly worth a visit. Though I wont be in a hurry to return now that I have left colege
