I loved my experience of the Anchor Line, we fancied some drinks in luxurious surroundings and chose 2 different G and T’s from the menu, and sat in the comfy seats people watching, under a gloriously detailed architectural ceiling, listening to tinkly jazz. Everything about this building seems to have been well thought out, with the smartly dressed and helpful staff happy to make recommendations. We sat next to a wall which had the original plan of the ship, including cabin prices. Our gin selection was a Botanist Islay Gin with Fentimans tonic(served with a sprig of mint) and the Death’s Door gin served with coriander with Fevertree Tonic. These two drinks illustrate perfectly the sheer variety of gins and the vast difference in tastes, the Death’s Door had hints of aniseed and cardamon, whilst the Botanist was much ‘softer’ and rather elegant. Both were served in tall tumblers. i think we will be back when we are in need of a treat, and also try the food. It is definately on my ‘treat’ list. I enjoyed looking at the old menus from the cruise ships, imagining what it must have been like to be treated to such a banquet. Next time I will wear a cocktail dress, and pretend I am an art deco cruise goer. Happy days!
