Got Fish & chip urge on Sunday nowhere else open. Oil used for cooking needed changing Fish was small with hardly ant batter, Chips were stale, staff surly, truly horrible. Might be better in restaurant this was take away.

I’ve had Fisk n kips(minus the fish)?from here many a time but never eaten in the restaurant. The lover got a voucher so took me as his date. Bit odd taking a veggie but hey ho! However, looked online beforehand and there were a couple of veggie options which looked reasonable. The main problem with the restaurant is its total lack of character. Really is like sitting in a canteen. Plus they really need to sort out their extractor fans. I stink of chip fat now. Gah! The food was ok… Portions a little small(glad we weren’t paying full whack) and chips a bit tasteless. That may be a cold that is threatening me at the minute though! Anyway, in the words of my grandfather«that was adequate».

We live in Chicago but have relatives in Leeds, and every time we’re in town a visit to Marlow’s is requisite… sometimes many times in a single week. I’ve rarely found fish and chips as good as theirs, and the other dishes are also very tasty — when your family has decided to go there a third time in one week, you start checking out other items on the menu… We learned from our relatives that the fish at the sit down tables is better than the take out… don’t know why.

My partner is very much a fish lover; I am very much a chip lover so this place suits us both. You can go in and have a sit down meal, not something I have really got to grips with yet but give me time, or you can get a takeaway. The takeaway part is completely separate and I like that as you don’t feel like you are intruding on other people’s dinners. The portions are a really generous and they aren’t soaked by grease so you don’t even feel like you have been bad!

Marlow’s is one of the best places to have a sit down fish & chip meal in Leeds, something I only recently discovered. On the quieter part of Street Lane, it lies on its own inside grounds with ample parking, and succeeds in being a rather fine fish restaurant. It clearly feels that it should cater to the more sophisticated types by offering grilled fillets of fish and other more refined dishes, but Marlow’s is really all about the fish and chips, and anyone who says different is lying. The chips are unbelievable and the fish was exactly what you want in a fish & chip restaurant — crispy, not soggy, and with a welcome absence of grease. If you hit it during the early bird special, it will be full of older people, but this is usually a good thing in a fish and chip restaurant. Splendid stuff.

For some reason no one else has reviewed this place — why??? If you want proper fish n’ chips in Leeds this is the place to come. You just can’t beat it. Me and my Granny Sonia love this place and when ever I go and visit her up north it’s always the same question, ‘Marlow’s for tea?‘ They do an early bird special for the oldies(£6.50) but being a young ‘un I still love its old retro feel. They will even cook your fish for a little bit longer if you ask so that the batter is extra crispy, this is the proper way to eat you fish! Warning you will come out smelly of lovely chip fat…
