Stopped in for a beer and the highly recommended bread and butter pudding. The local IPA was very good. The bread and butter pudding was amazing. Bread pudding baked perfectly with a superb vanilla sauce. Excellent atmosphere too!

The bar has amazing atmosphere with a great history to it’s restoration. I was stunned by the bread pudding! I am not a bread pudding kind of person but this was delectable! A yummy cinnamon, sugary, creamy goodness which was topped with a custard sauce. The only downside was it was served so hot it took forever for me to eat it. The staff were wonderful. Thank you! #eatinglondon

This is a fine enough English pub. I wouldn’t come here if you’re expecting something high end though. I personally think the reviews are kind of deceiving — we arrived expecting a posh little English pub for dinner and it turned out to be quite the opposite. We went down the road and found a restaurant that met our initial expectations and then returned for some low-key drinks. This is the equivalent to most Irish pubs in NYC — not much décor or ambiance, lots of beers and ciders to choose from… all you need is good company and you’re set!

We stopped into this quite British Restaurant/Bar as part of an East End food walking tour. We tried the bread pudding and got to look around at the restaurant. This is a really cool spot and very original. Inside is full of wood, pews and booths. Its adorable, quiet, and a dining experience that’s unique and provides some privacy will getting that real English Establishment feel. The bread pudding was absolutely delicious. Decadent, rich, creamy and gooey. You can’t ask for anything more from a bread pudding, and this filled my quota of cream and butter for weeks(but it was worth it). I cant vouch for the food but the dessert and atmosphere made this a fun stop!

My wifey and I went there on our 5 year anniversary trip. We got there just before the kitchen closed at 10pm. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Being tourists we probably said or did something stupid, but the staff welcomed us and didn’t make us feel out of place.

I liked the place! I tried bread & butter pudding and it arrived with a huge portion of rhubard & vanilla custard. Very fresh and tasty! It’s a great place to take a foreigner to as the design is awesome!

Looks like an old pub on the outside without much signage ie hard to find. Solid English food with continental flair.

I stumbled across this place as I was searching for a burger late one night. At the time, it got around 4 stars on Unilocal and I was hungry so I took a chance and I’m so glad I did. I didn’t expect to find a French inspired menu or such a great wine list because of the name. I went with the set menu and a half bottle of wine. The amuse Bouche was a wonderful Salmon late. Lovely and delicate flavors. My appetizer was a crab cake, crisp, with spinach and hollandaise. My entrée was very good as well, steak with frites and béarnaise sauce with Dijon dressed greens. Even the dessert was phenomenal, bread pudding. I’d recommend this place to anyone.

Fantastic little bar/pub in ab great location which is only an stone throw away from Liverpool streetn station. My favorite thing about this place is the great selection of Belgian beers they have both on tap and in bottles. The Bruge Zot is for anyone been on the Half Moon brewery tour in Bruge should be a familiar beer and being able to drink that in London is enough to take a trip here.

Very disappointed by the food at this place. Tons of great restaurants in the area, don’t waste your time or money on this one. Seated promptly, service was friendly, but the food was a real shame. Three of us ordered the catch of the day(fish and chips), but the fish was way over-fried, the less were not fresh, and the restaurant didn’t even have tartar sauce. The chips were fine, but not enough to make up for the fish. Two others had the Sunday roast(one chicken, one beef) and they were slightly better, but still not great. Too bad. Had hoped for better.

Charming little restaurant that we had brunch at when we were staying near Liverpool station. The décor is very charming and the food was pretty good including the cappuccino.

I give this 4 stars and I haven’t even tried to food yet. I’ve been once but definitely plan to come back. I just immediately fell in love with the place because of the bar. Coming from mainland Europe, it’s been hard to find a bar that’s no busy pub, expensive posh place or loud dark place where you can’t have a proper conversation. Stumbling upon The English Restaurant by coincidence, I felt I found what I had been looking for: a small bar area with some good Belgian beers, where people were just occupying the few tables AND I read they have live music in the evening. It was very basic, but intimate, and especially for a Friday evening after work: relaxing for a drink. I barely hang out in hipster Shoreditch but I do plan to come back to this bar and maybe try to food next time!

So I’ve been here a couple of times and I always come away with the same thoughts in my mind. The food is superb, I’ve tried a few different bits off the menu now, and whether it’s from he sea or whether it’s from a field it’s cooked beautifully. The staff there are always very pleasant and happy, though sometimes due to the layout of the place if you’re round the corner at the back you may find yourself unable to get the immediate attention of someone. The sticking point I seem to hit though is it does feel expensive. Starters are round the £10 mark, Mains are £15−20 ‘before’ you request the addition of sides such as potatoes or vegetables which are about 4.50−6.50 per side(if you were having multiple sides though then it would certainly be sharing them). This establishment of foodie delights is most definitely a joy to enjoy, and it’s probably the northern boy in me, or more specifically my northern salary that means I wouldn’t be able to make this a regular thing

Impressive French dishes, and fairly priced as well. We dropped in on the off-chance and were given the last table in the house. The service was friendly but at times a bit slow, but that shouldn’t detract from the quality of the food. In my case I started with a delicious beef carpaccio which I was loathed to share! For my main I went for rabbit with dumplings, a very tasty plate of food, fresh flavours and very generous. The wine list is impressive with a range of options in the early £20 bracket, and advice on hand to advise a great Chenin from the Loire. My café gourmand dessert was good — the only criticism being that the portions were enormous. The espresso was exceptional. The bill? £98 for two including service so not inexpensive but definitely worth it.

Food was very nice but the whole experience was ruined by a very off putting manager! No personality and almost rude! I tried to engage in friendly conversation while seated at the bar and it was clear that have a chat was not on the menu! Shame because the rest of the staff were very nice.

I love love love the english restaurant… is that enough love. This building has been here forever. Much of the inside is re-purposed wood, items, and furniture. I believe the booths were made from pews from a near by church that burnt down… very cool. I loved their breakfast items but I really loved their Banana bread pudding. Warm, soft, buttery, and full of rich flavor. Great for a cold day. It is worth the trip from the west side just to come into this amazing space. Definitely check this place out!!!

This French pastry shop serves a lot selection of delicious sweets and pastries. A lot of breads and cakes to choose from, at very low price Their interior design has an otherworldly feel about it, with its wooden chairs, have old tea caddies behind the counter that my mumalways ask to have. The atmosphere is so very relaxed & amazing! The food is really very good. So very tasty! The service is friendly and efficient and made sure your needs were taken care of.

Good food, interesting space(the wood is from Christ Church down the street), the owners live upstairs and you can tell they care about the space. Great wine list(the sparkles are the reason I’m there most Fridays) and OK coffee(go to Nude or Norton Folgate instead)

I simply don’t know what to think of this place: Bonus Points: — I love the interior with all the the dark wood that makes you feel like you’ve been transported back a few centuries. — indeed, I like sitting here, drinking a cup of nice coffee and writing my journal — it’s also fun to watch the yuppy Shoreditch crowd go in and out Not-So-Bonus Points: — like Lars L. the food also was rather unimpressive and very unexciting(n fact, if London would only feature their food, I’d support the myth that the British don’t know how to cook) — like Lizzie G, I was freezing my ass off when I was here last time(I was sitting right by the window and it was super-drafty — the dinner-service was attentive at first, but as soon as we’d finished off the dessert, we were waiting for ever for someone to show to up clear off our plates and then to bring us the bill So, the final verdict: I think it’s a nice place with lots of potential, but for now they leave me wanting more…

After a day of shopping around Sptialfields Market, we were looking for a little pick me up & Market Coffee House fit the bill perfectly Friend got a simple Mint Tea but she’s super picky about the steeping & they took on her pickiness w/out a hitch — perfectly steeped cuppa Belgian Hot Chocolate for me — this was milky, creamy, dark, chocolaty & über delish w/unmelted gloops of chocolate in the bottom of the cup. Score! Busy, energetic Pub setting w/lots of people enjoying coffees, teas & snacks. There were delish offerings of cakes that we were SO tempted to try & were it not for upcoming dinner rezzies, that cake would have been *mine* Market Coffee House serves proper pub fare AND offers Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner INCLUDING Afternoon Tea! Woot! Given we were there on a Sunday, they had a Sunday Roast offering on their Specials Menu … Can’t wait to come back!
