Came here other week with some fellow Unilocalers. I was looking forward to it as I like a bit of Tapas! This was also my first visit ever to Chorlton. I was a pretty large restaurant split into a couple levels. It was a Tuesday evening and it was a shame that it was very quiet. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived(there was another table when we left). There was an offer on for 4 tapas for the price of 3 so we decided to each pick 4 tapas dishes and then basically share. As with most tapas places, the food does come quickly and you often need a much larger table. It was OK for us — we just ate fast! I think my favourite dish was the spinach pancakes. When they came they did have a look of Findus Crispy Pancakes which I have not had for years. Whatever they looked like, they tasted really good. There were a few other good dishes including the lamb tapas — a slow cooked lamb and grilled lamb. One thing which would have been handy is we ordered some bread. Would have been good to dip it in the sauce — which was lovely. It wasn’t all good though. The calamari was unfortunately quite chewy and one of the prawn dishes I found a bit bland — although other people liked it so maybe just me. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Lusitano and would have no problem with coming back again.

I like others liked the light and comfortable dining room of Lusitano, which is on the first floor, it’s both casually elegant and comfortable. Food wise, bit of a mixed bag: 1) Very good — Codfish(bacalao) patties — Cheese and spinach patties — Fish and shrimp croquettes — Stuffed peppers with minced beef and cheese — Chorizo flamed in red wine(I mean, it’s just chorizo but it’s hard to mess chorizo up) I would definitely have these if I went back and that would be a great meal. The first two in particular were excellent. 2) Fine — Batatas bravas(not bad at all, just not that memorable either) — Goat cheese wrapped in filo pastry(although others really liked this) — Salada di polvo(this was generally well received although not the best thing we had) — Gambas piri piri(not very spicy) — Tempera battered fried vegetables(these were a bit chewy, although I kind of liked that about them) 3) Not so great — Calamari(again, chewy) — Garlic bread Looking at the above it seems to me that the more Portuguese sounding dishes were generally the best, which is a pretty good sign. We didn’t try any mains so can’t comment on those, they’re not that cheap though. Tapas were buy 3 get a 4th free the night we went, which was excellent value — between four our food was less than £12 a head and as you can see from the above we had a great range. Finally I didn’t drink any alcohol but the Portuguese wine and port I understood was a bit rough!

This was my first trip to Chorlton, and tapas sounded like a great idea :) Climbling the stairs of this place gave me proper nostalgia. It reminded of this old fashioned Italian I used to go to as a kid. Reaching the top opens up to a large layout, with a great view of the outside world. The wine menu was decent, alongside traditional sangria Served by the glass or pitcher of £14. The menu offered a good selection of fish and meat dishes for 4 plates for 3 which is good otherwise you are looking at £20! The portions were very hit and miss. For example the piri gambas(prawns), seafood croqettes, and goats cheese were puny for a fiver. Where as the beef stuffed pepper and cheese and spinach pastry were a decent size. The garlic bread was terrible and to end it all was a very uninspiring dessert menu. Overall the food is hit and miss depending what you order. but I found it quite expensive for what you got(which I am prepared for that at tapas). The waitress was fantastic though considering she looked after our large table the entire time. if I was passing by, I would potentially try a main course… but never again for the tapas…

Had a lovely meal at Lusitano. Sampled both the tapas and main food and it was all very good and most generous. Service was lovely too. And the sangria is great! Taste card offers a hefty 50% discount here — but without it the pricing is on the steep side. They do an early bird offer for those of you lucky folk who finish work early. If this was on Beech Road it’d be packed out every night. I really hope it does well and will certainly be going back.

Just had to give Lusitano a go as it’s one of the few Portuguese restaurants in Manchester. Set along Wilbraham Road in Chorlton, Lusitano is definitely in a good spot. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and the service was top notch throughout. The waiter was very attentive and was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. The décor is impressive, loved the rich warm red and orange colours as it made me feel like I was in the Med. All great so far and this place was due for a 5 star review until the food arrived. The food wasn’t bad by any means but it just didn’t hit the spot and there are so many places that do it better. My calamari was under cooked and didn’t have much flavour, my husband’s whitebait was the same. My fish main was also bland and I’m not sure that the fried banana worked with it. My husband’s Cajun chicken was ok but could have been spicier. The desserts were uninspiring. It’s a shame as I so wanted to like this place. Maybe it’s just a glitch as it has only just opened. Will try this one again in a few months time to see if it has raised its game.
